They're 50% heavier than most headphones. They have 5 year old technology. They don't have any modern airpod features. They have a horrible non-protective case. They have the lowest battery life out of any modern headphones. Anyone buying these is either ignorant or an apple fanboy.

I bough AirPods Max in early August and I could not be more satisfied. As long as you use Apple Music and watch your movies with dolby atmos then it's 80% positive. They are much more reliable than AirPods Pro first gen that also used H1. The case is bad but it does the job for me . Battery life is OK tier, lasting 2 days if you spend most of your day with the headphone on your head. Otherwise the rest is a Win, very good.

I have the “old version” and they are the best headphones I own. Best in noise cancellation, premium build, great sound, but I agree 100% with this recommendation. The upgrade is not worth it. Find them used, or find a newer version from another brand at half the price.

I also have the first version of APM… they are starting to go downhill with background audio imperfections and issues with connectivity…so just by getting a new pair it would be a huge upgrade from the original product… those advising not to buy these make sense..but not everyone is in the same situation so I wouldn’t tell everyone not to buy it just because you specifically don’t think it’s a good idea

@@DigitalSlang No, Sony BT over ear headphones do not sound very good. I've owned the xm4 and the xm5 is slight upgrade. Just crappy sounding headphones. I do not enjoy airpod max much (I mostly stick to wired with dac/amp but Airpod Max is leagues better than the XM5.) If you want a cheaper headset that competes in audio quality get the momentum 4 but the AIrpod max are much nicer if you are in the Apple ecosystem.

I presume they didn't want to upgrade the hardware because they didn't want to add "Adaptive Transparency," which a person would most likely use outdoors. They don't want you to use it outdoors because it isn't waterproof/dustproof, etc... The reason they didn't want to do that was probably because they would have had to change the entire design of the AirPods Max since they likely prefer the comfort/aesthetics of the mesh design. Thus, there would be no reason to upgrade the hardware or redesign it for outdoor use and are pushing users to get the Beats Studio Pro with lossless for those reasons instead.

The AirPod Max headphones I purchased two years ago spent a ton of time not working and sent to service, because of liquid damage. My ears sweat a lot. I even tried taking the pads off and drying anywhere I found moisture. Just before the Apple Care ran out, I sent them in for the 6th time to be repaired. That was a month ago and already they are acting up. I was really looking forward to the new release mainly because one of the expected upgrades was water proofing, at least to some extent. I am so disappointed by what Apple did, or did not do with this new release. Because I could not renew the warranty, I can trade them in at Best Buy and get something else. What would you advise for me to get that plays well with Apple and sound as good as my Max?

im on my 3rd one since I use them a LOT. the only trade of using other brands is the apple integration. I use them for work and when I pick up my iPhone it automatically switches to that. i touch the Mac Studio it switches to that, iPad, laptop and soon. other than that I agree, ear cups stink literally after weeks of use, smell bad. the white ones I had looked so dirty after a year and having some issues I went back to the black one again. still stink, I dont know if its the material or something, VERY disappointed they didnt improve after 4 years, thank you

I went with Bose Ultra, but I do miss the “hello Siri” while listening to things and while driving (compared to pushing the soft button on Bose Ultra). My AirPods Pro 2 are my most favourite and daily used gear, sound quality is fantastic. I use the Bose ultra for air travel and gaming at home. AirPod Pro 2 every day 👍🏽

The only difference between USB and lightning would be transfer speeds. USB is faster. The H1 chip is old and does not allow for some of the features on new headphones or earbuds

Costco appear in Canada currently has them for $220 off of what the ones that just dropped cost. This is included an apple because there’s like a $20 difference between the two products. So I’ve had my Sony and I’ve had my Boses and neither of those really worked for me, Sony kept changing and Boses kept dropping like for microsecond, but it was still distracting. Here is hoping that these old motherfoocker served me well because I’m deep into the apple ecosystem so that’s why I get for trying things that were half the price

im super upset about these... consumer gave a lot of feedback and nothing besides usb c changed. no h2 chip, still no plug and use. the first gen were 390 on Amazon day. you will get the same quality than the new ones. I really got hyped during the press reveal and wanted a pair for Christmas, then they f'd it up with the rest of the reveal. oh well... on to wait another 4 more years.

My sister got the Bose recently and I went for AirPods Max. From my perspective and what I tested on my her headphone, AirPods are superior in every way except weight (which doesn't bother me at all) and maybe ANC which is slightly better on the ultra. I find AirPods Max to be amazing, easily worth 400€ but nut 580€.

Pro Display XDR....3000. Those are rough numbers, but you get my point. Oh you want a case for the iphone? $50. Apple does not provide customer service, you have to PURCHASE it and they call it Apple "Care".

I should be checked out ...twice over. FML. I am an Apple "whore" and I have purchased two pairs. The first pair (purchased in 2022) just stopped working in 2023...I had them serviced under apple care twice. They were out of my hands for over two months. I received them back and they were not fixed, even though they said they were. They WOULD NOT connect to anything. The second pair I purchased earlier this year. The condensation that collects in this pair is unreal. My left ear will feel like there is water sloshing around in it. It is seriously the weirdest, and worst feeling. Take it from the idiot who has purchased two pairs of these. HE IS RIGHT.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro and suddenly after a year my battery started to drain really quickly and I started having some bugs. I love Apple man but they do insane shit to keep you upgrading

I have had the AirPods Max since they launched in December 2020, and I use them for hours daily. Having been a fanboy and shareholder since 2005, I can clearly see through their game. As much as I do not want to support this capitalist move on their part, I don't want my AirPods Max to be the only reason I still hang on to a lightning cable, so I am genuinely sorry, but I will have to do it. 😔

Lol just bought these yesterday. They are still consistently one of the best headphones even in 2024. The noise cancellation is in the top 3 if not the best, transparency is the best, mic is in the top 3, sound quality is great for someone who isn't a basshead. Controls are premium and comfort is good for me but this is really subjective. I personally don't feel the extra weight and like the premium materials. There are some design quirks for sure but when it comes to using them as wireless headphones, they are amazing and incredibly convenient. You can definitely get better sounding wireless headphones for less price but its the overall package I'm looking at, not just the sound. I own both Airpods Max and Pro 2. The features coming from H2 chip (adaptive mode, conversation awareness, etc) I don't use them and find them gimmicks. My biggest complain with Airpods Pro with H1 was the noise cancellation wasn't that great and the sound was mid at best. These, despite having the same chip, don't suffer from that. So I'm happy even though its H1. Again, it's the overall package. My only complain with this is that they are wayyyyyyy overpriced (they should be 450$) and that there is no way to use them with my PS5 unless I buy a 40$ cable from Apple (so typical).

I agree with the sentiment to not buy these, as they are a lazy release but this notion that there are cheaper easily better sounding headphones is nuts. Bluetooth headphones mostly suck, including these but in that terrible range of audio products the only headphones that compete with these are the Bathys and Momentum 4 but they both lose in the ANC department. I personally think Momentum 4 and Bathys sound better but it's all close enough at that point. Bose are super comfortable, top tier ANC and have decent sound but fall behind all three of these. The Sony XM over ear series is honestly just a mediocre-sounding headphone with top-tier ANC. My brother and myself have the XM4 and we will occasionally go back to them and complain to each other about how shitty they sound. If you want top-tier ANC with the best sound, Airpod Max is your only choice because the other two that compete with sound cannot compete in ANC. Buy these if you haven't yet and want those features otherwise get the Momentum 4 for $250, build is generic but the audio is top-notch (in crappy Bluetooth world of course) and ANC is solid.
