Nice review. I have Bose quiet comfort 2. They’re amazing. One thing I’ve found though is that if the firmware isn’t updated on the charging case they will show the single flashing amber and white lights stating there’s a problem and to contact the manufacturer. After updating the firmware, it works fine. I did extensive research on these three before going with Bose. Thank you for your review!

I’ve watched a ton of these reviews for these three buds. Many good videos out there, but your video did maybe the best job of actually showing-not just telling. I already bought the Bose QC II before seeing your video, but I’m still watching reviews because I want some more clarity. I got the WF-1000XM4 since release. Speak to chat is absolutely wonderful, the amount of times that someone walks up to me or if I want to quickly focus on traffic is making this feature an absolute lifesaver. I only with that there was no white noise when using ambient mode. And I wish that I could toggle it with a tap or a voice command. The noise-canceling is perfect, the battery life is more than enough. Only happens sometimes that I lose battery, but that's only when I forgot to fully charge them. The ear tips still work well, and I have had no problems with them. When putting them in I do have to squees them like when putting ear plug in, but they will settle after a minute. Makes them never fall but also not as nice to put in and out of your ear. Oh ye, the sound is fantastic! I actually tend to prefer the stock tuning of the Sony's. They offer a nice emphasis on and texture to lower mids that's lush and unique. There's also a fair amount of high treble which gives everything a nice sparkle and airyness. Things like vocals do take a bit of a back seat, but I feel that the buds have good enough separation that everything tends to sound fairly well defined. That said, I am a little treble sensitive, so others might experience it differently. I occasionally experiment with more treble in the EQ but the original sound usually does me well, especially with very long use times.

I went for the AirPods. Seemed like the perfect fit for me as I do go to some rock concerts and the adaptive transparency has been a lifesaver when in front of the big speakers trying to take pictures. The squeeze controls are also way superior to the touch controls on other earbuds, as you can easily adjust the buds in your ears and not accidentally trigger anything. If you are seriously so lazy that you can’t be bothered to lightly squeeze something a few times then go for some other buds. The noise cancellation is really good as well and when combined with music at somewhere around 75 decibels I have not been able to hear anything but the music. Edit: also I completely disagree with this guy when he says “go for the AirPods if you don’t care that much about bass”. It’s a very balanced sound and the bass is just right. It can be slightly punchy but it’s never overwhelming. It won’t be popular with fans who are complete baseline junkies, for that I would have a look at the skullcandy crushers as they have a literal bass slider, but for people like me who want bass but don’t want it to overlap any other sounds it’s perfect.

The frequency curve is the mostly flat out of the box which, if you didn’t know, allows for the best sound quality. Good headphones have a flat frequency response curve, just look at an audiophile headphones’ frequency response curve. I own the Airpods Pro 2 and never tried the others... but being very balanced/neutral while still translating a lot of detail and deliver an immersive experience is precisely what I'm looking for in any headphones or speakers. As a musician who has been mixing and mastering music for 15 years, I like to hear things the way they've been intended to be heard and not ''enhanced'' in any other way. I am curious to see if they'll last through all the shadow boxing I'll do. UPDATE: they only lasted two months lol. In their defense I think I probably got a faulty pair but still a comical amount of time. Loss of volume, crackling, painful thumping, and inconsistent noise cancelling. It should be noted that on the XM4s it also has the same adaptive transparency mode as the pros and Bose. This is in addition to the excellent speak-to-chat function. The latter is far from a gimmic but rather an incredible quality of life improvement feature that is well thought out and almost flawless. Also battery life on the Sonys is double what is stated in the video. 8hrs with ANC and almost 12hrs with ANC off! Far cry from the 6hrs mentioned in the video. Have had my pair of XM4s two months now and 8-12hrs is spot on and what I get. That's before needing to recharge buds in case.

I agree, I've had the XM4s for a year now and my biggest correction to his overview would be the battery life. He said 6 hours for each of them, but I usually get double that with the Sony's. I average 10-12 hours, which is a game changer if you're wearing them to sleep through a noisy environment.

I tried the air pods once but the sound was just too bright for me and I didn't see a way to adjust it. When I got the Sony XM4's I was really disappointed until I ran the tuning app, wow. When you adjust them to your own taste they are marvelous. I use them mostly for driving and cutting grass, I have a very large yard that takes several hours to mow. While I can still hear my lawnmower it is VERY soft and I can enjoy music or audio books easily, it makes cutting the grass a pleasure. I recently got the Sony XM5's. The batteries on my XM4's gave out. I sent the Sony SM4's back to Sony after having them for a couple years and they replaced the batteries at no charge. Before sending the XM4's back to Sony I had an opportunity to get the XM5's, the newest Sony, it didn't occur to me that you could replace the batteries in the 4's. I like my 4's, I like them a lot but I think I like the lightness and size better on the 5's. There is only a little enhancement of ANC on the 5's over the 4's but you can wear them for 6 hours and not even think about comfort, they just don't bother you and I think their transparency mode is really special unless you cough while mowing. Because the XM5's are so comfortable I was really leary of using them to cut the grass, I just didn't beileve that something so comfortable would stay in my ears, I haven't had a problem though. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these earbuds, there is no good better and best only best bester and bestest (I know that isn't a word but works for me) perhaps. I have Sony over the ear headphones XM4's and I find the ear pods far superior I think mostly because of the foam tips that cancel a great deal of noise even without ANC turned on. In less noisy environments ( not cutting grass) the extreme quiet of the earbuds makes the nuance of sounds of orchestras or perhaps any kind of music easy to discern.

I haven’t tried the Sony’s, but I had the AirPod Pro 2’s and Bose QC 2’s and it was definitely Bose all the way for me. I really wanted to be happy with the AirPods Pro 2’s for their Apple ecosystem friendliness but it really wasn’t close. The Bose had better noise cancelling, better sound, and so much more comfortable because they don’t require as deep a fit for a great seal. That said I really do like using my AirPod 3’s for watching the Apple TV. I’m not in desperate need for noise cancellation. I can enjoy the spatial audio, and I love that I don’t have to jam them into ear canal to sound good. I know I’m in the minority. I know people love their AirPods Pro 2’s. My wife likes hers. I gotta say that the comfort is phenomenal as well. As someone who has oily skin with any other earbuds without a stability band of some sort, like the Bose’s, would constantly be slipping out. Lastly, the NC in the bose is far superior than any other NC earbuds I’ve tried. They get super quiet! Almost feels like as if your ears popped but yet comfortable. I would EXTREMELY recommend the Bose Earbuds ll.

Why does nearly every reviewer insist on saying you can’t customise the sound on AirPods. Firstly there are preset EQ levels. Yes they are presets but it’s still changing the EQ levels to your preference. Secondly you can go in to the accessibility settings and change the sound via Audiograms. Either imported from a 3rd party or you can do the on device test and it actually can change the sound of the AirPods quite drastically. Of course it’s easier to just have a manual EQ but to say “you’re stuck with what you have” on AirPods is just wrong.

I've tried all three of these, and in my opinion, the Bose QuietComfort's blow the other two out of the water in all categories - everything from sound quality, comfort, and and noise cancellation. I also graded them on their ability to stay in during intense movement workouts (e.g. fast running & HIIT-style workouts), and the Bose stay perfectly in place during the most aggressive movements, while the other two feel like they're falling out (and eventually do fall out) with just light walking. I'm seriously not trying to be a Bose fan boy here but I honestly don't understand how the other two even compete with the Bose. To be fair, the one category I'd place the other two above the Bose would be call quality, but that metric has the lowest importance for me personally.

Just bought a pair of Bose thanks to this video. Looking forward to getting them within a few days. Thanks for a good overall comparison. Was on the fence between the WF-1000XM4 and the Bose. Have you faced any issue with connectivity? I have read so many reviews where people are saying it disconnects without any reason and you have to put them back in the case everyone to reconnect. Is this really an issue, if yes how are you handling it?

Just leaving a comment here about the Sony's WF-1000xm4. I bought them on launch and worked flawlessly up until my warranty ran out and now they drain fast and now the left earbud won't even connect or charge. I loved these buds, they sounded amazing and you could customize thanks to the app. So beware, you'll love them but might get unlucky with a defective pair :( . RIP

I have some problems with the Bose QC Earbuds 2. The sound quality, fit in the ear and the noise cancellation are great but the noise floor can be very noticeable and quite annoying when listening to quieter songs or if I just want to block out noise to read. It's like a constant fan or rain white noise in the background that doesn't really disappear like other ANC headphones/earbuds I've used. It's at this strange frequency that is different from let's say APP2's slight white noise. Aware mode also seems to INCREASE the volume of outside noise at times, I've had to set up a custom mode to prevent this. Additionally, it's completely absurd that these earbuds cost $250+ and do not have an option to completely disable ANC. I don't necessarily need to have it on all times and when the two options are complete NC with an annoyingly loud white noise or aware mode with hissing, sometimes I'd rather have none at all... Final warning, the app connectivity and software issues are ridiculous with Bose. They have a history with this in the past and this sadly does not end with these earbuds. TL;DR - If you don't care about the software and you just want amazing CONSTANT noise cancelation (you can't turn it off), great fit and great music quality, go for the QC 2 Earbuds. Otherwise, if you have an iPhone, go for the APP2. The difference in software/hardware integration with zero issues is absolutely day and night in comparison to Bose. Bose wins in the hardware department, but they really, really need to get their shit together in the software department.

I use the Bose. The Achilles heel of the hose is it's case lid hinge. It becomes shaky and loose after few times of use. Definitely the case sturdiness has to be improved. For what it's worth, I own the airpods 2 pros, and I have owned or have tried multiple other earbuds, including the Samsung Galaxy buds 2 pro. While it's true the airpods 2 pro doesn't have as much bass, I'd say the quality of the bass is so much better and more balanced. I find wayyyy too many earbuds or headphones nowadays have so much bass, that it's actually.... disorienting? Makes me feel sick in a way. I don't know how else to describe it. Having a more balanced sound profile makes the different bass frequencies stand out more to me personally. If I had to compare the airpods 2 pro sound to an actual headphone, I'd say they remind me of my Sennheiser HD650s. Balanced, and warmer. Very, very pleasant sound to me. Update: am currently on vacation in Irvine, California. Picked up a pair of momentum true wireless 3 and Bose QC ii earbuds. The sennheisers are not great. Lot of bass. Not too full in the mids, treble seems smooth but there isn't much of it. Bose qcii are pretty good. Mids are pushed back, but the bass and treble don't feel too strong to the point where it's bad. Noise cancelling on them was very good. I returned the Bose because I didn't find them better than the airpods pro 2. I can't return the sennheisers, so I'll be keeping them

@Capicu. Жыл бұрын
Yeah.... Not entirely sure I agree with this review. I haven't owned a pair of Bose since their sound sports but I've used both the Airpod Pro 2 and XM4's. The noise cancellation out of the box is better with the XM4's regardless of your graph but there's a reason for this. To start I have this thing called the lawnmower test, I start and run a lawnmower and see how good headphones and/or IEMs cancel it. With the XM4's it's completely silent to the point where I don't use them doing yard work because being able to hear the lawnmower is actually good (incase I run something over lol) but that is not the case with the Airpod Pro 2. Now frankly this all comes down to the foam tips really. The XM4's do not have to cancel lows that much because the seal created by the tips does that for you, there's a reason most ear plugs are made of foam. Highs tend to pierce the foam slightly so it makes sense as to why Sony would prioritize that especially since ANC historically struggles cancelling highs. I found when using the XM4's out of the box the silence was better than anything other ANC I've tried. Now that said that can easily be remedied with the Airpods by purchasing foam tips from comply or whoever you like. I've been using foam tips for years and I think they are infinitely better than silicone. I've always had an issue with others staying in, no matter what magical mechanisms they use. The seal with foam not only ensures they stay in, IEMs need a perfect seal to get the best possible sound signature. I've noticed improvements across the board upgrading to foam tips for most of my IEMs. Now in my opinion, since the XM4's do a better job cancelling highs even with the foam tip upgrade on the Airpods the XM4s will be superior but not a deal breaker. Ultimately it would come down to sound preference and ecosystem. For me the deal breaker for the Bose is the lack of wireless charging, it's like the one feature I use constantly. Both from my phone and a charging pad. I've even seen wireless charging pads crop up in airports so it's just a matter of time before they are everywhere. Hopefully Bose gets their stuff together for the next interation and I'd consider giving them a go.

I use speak to chat on my galaxy buds 2 pro. The only downside is that if you are close enough to a group of people having a conversation, it will stop playing the music. However, it will resume playing after 5 seconds of no detection. Which can be adjusted to a smaller threshold in the settings.

Great video! though the AirPod Pro (2nd Gen) are more convenient within the ecosystem... even after adding foam tips - the ANC & Sound Quality from my Bose QC II's were just better in my opinion, which is what I prioritize - sent the AirPod Pro's back.

People in the comments are complaining about the white noise from the bose ii's. I exclusively would be using them for noise cancellation and I add in brown noise from an app to enhance the noise cancellation so the extra white noise they generate is a selling feature for me. My backups are the sonys as I've been dissapointed by bose before. Right now there is nothing on the market that has better noise cancellation than then QC 20'S from 2015. Unfortunately my cat keeps biting the wire and breaking them and they have aux only but they work without power and anc and you can cut 90% of airplane noise out. They are insane so it's a very high barrier for the qc ii's to reach.
