I love these things man! Was sceptical at first until I really focused on em. If you're thinking about buying, get the small 0.3 or 1 liter ones. In my experience I was able to turn a runt or the otherwise least healthy seedling into a beast!

just too expensive, we use wash baskets lined with black ground cover plastic and for bigger stuff the tall dirty laundry baskets. They work out at under £5 for the wash basket and under £7 for the laundry one including the black fabric. You get years of use out of them and you can even put self watering in if you like. You could get more than 30 for the price of a small seed tray and base. It's not as if they look much nicer either as you can spray them for the cost of a cheap can of spray paint. The car shop sell them off at a £1 each for end of range colours.

With big trees, they aren't so stable when grown from pots since the taproot had been pruned

Adding crushed eggshells will keep slugs and snails away plus provide calcium to your soil. Just nuke the empty eggshells for 2 minutes then crush them and sprinkle around your plants.

Can I fill the air pot first with a layer of pebbles or gravels then cover it with a circular nylon mesh. Finally the potting mix for vegetable and fruit plants.

I thought about that, I think that defeats the purpose. You want the bottom roots to reach air which triggers more root growth.

you can't use a similar plastic that is used in laying foundation, you just need to make holes in the notches and cut it to size/shape ridiculously cheaper

Now only $55 for a single 2 gallon pot. I just get $2 nursery pots and drill a bunch of small holes in the sides and it works great.

I can just get a laundry basket in any colour I like at the dollar store & not have to drill I make one small drainage hole at the bottom by heating the center with a BBQ lighter then poking a hole with a skewer.
