i recommend using a small grit sandpaper to smooth down the edges of the circle and get it perfect. You can use the sandpaper to make it perfect size as it takes away small amount of material

You could also make a lexan replacement screen for the flip up protector incase you really don’t want to make a different template for the harder to do sights or scopes, I’d imagine that’s far easier than some sights. Just an alternative I thought of

This is a great video! But what happens if you glue the plexiglass and then it breaks? You cant put it out once its glued, so you wont be able to use the scope again...?
@w4stedspace4 жыл бұрын
Nah it comes out super easy, even if the hot glue method is used - once it's broken you have something to grab hold of! Worse case scenario, you can super-glue something to the lexan and use that as a grip.

Fair point, although you can see another pair in shot at times that are also lexan scissors that have a much more 'normal' pivot. Those curved ones are pretty awesome though, and only about £9 themselves.

Yes, but not for cutting it exactly - all you need to do is score the line you want reasonably deeply and the lexan will split easily along those lines, one of it's nicer features :)

I prefer to attach the Lexan to the outside of the scope with some silicone adhesive. It's a bit uglier, but is super easy to remove if it cracks or gets dented or something and you have to remove it. Silicone adhesive also keeps it in place very well while drying quickly and breathing well. It's also a lot more lenient on how well you cut it.

Hopefully that sounds like a fun ride and with a bit of luck we'll show you guys how to make a really solid start gun for cheap with some laughs along the way! Airsoft is back baby! (no I'm not stopping the gaming :P) and yes, the glue didn't hold in my example - but it was as simple as pushing the protector back in again and it was ready, and with a better glue job there wouldn't have been any issues! Ok it baffles me that no one has not commented about this but is anyone going to mention the fact that you cannot cut lexan with ordinary scissors? I’ve tried this with 2mm thick lexan and it won’t even make a dent when putting as much pressure on as possible (it actually nearly broke the scissors) so I don’t even want to imagine how difficult 3mm would be. Not hating on this vid because this guy has helped me sooooo much, but whatever he is using it ain’t lexan.

2mm should do fine also, maybe I've got sharper/stronger scissors than I realise :) I'll adjust the link, but you should still be able to cut it with kitchen scissors - or failing that, the scoring technique I mentioned with the knife and then tear it apart should work too.

If you buy thicker and harder polycarbonate than a 3mm soft LEXAN sheet, you'll need much tougher (or sharper) scissors. Also, don't clean it with benzene solvents, it'll become foggy or even melt through.

True, not that I've seen reason for anything thicker and definitely not anything harder - the softness is a benefit in this scenario, helps absorb the impact!

@w4stedspace4 жыл бұрын
As long as you can find a way to attach it securely, lexan would be perfect for that job also - it's light and a BB will *never* go through it. Only concern is making sure it's attached properly and doesn't fall off!

Excellent tip. If your feeling lazy or want thicker polycarbonate there are companies that will do it cut to size (and any shape). They tend to have minimum dimentions and order amounts. For About £30 I got a couple of dozen protectors for the camera I use, probibly more than I'm ever going to need. Split the order between a few friends and it gets even cheaper.

I put the crappy pre-sold perspex-or-whatever protectors on backwards with a rubber band around the bottom of it and the sight to hold it back at an angle leaning against the front of the sight. BBs bounce off without shattering it thanks to the angle, I've used 1 for a good number of games and it's been noticeably hit and has marks from BBs on it... And a bonus is that the gap between most of the sight and the protector from the sides is smaller. Hope this helps folks make the most of those things! (If they must, or already have them, or are lazy as heck like me etc.)

Why not use the flip up scope protector mount as a base for the Lexan material so you don't have to mount it into the scope itself? I'm guessing it would work the same as the plexiglass protector but instead of buying a new piece of glass you use Lexan when it breaks or comes off.

Do you by any chance own any GBB rifles? what's your take on them and why do they seem to not be commonly used? I'd like to start with airsoft myself, I really enjoy the idea of milsim and being able to "train" combat situations in my free time. I already own quite a few firearms in .177/4.5mm steel bb/diabolo for plinking and weapon driills etc. they're all powered by co2 and operate very realistically. That's the reason I'd like to buy a gas blow back airsoft rifle instead of a aeg type. On a sidenote, I'm in the military and am set with all the gear I could ever need so that's no problem all that's left is aquireing a decent rifle. Thanks in advance mate.

CptnMerica a little bit late but gas blow back rifle require maintenance and you will be out gunned in the field, they are also expensive, but for the backyard they are lots of fun. Also so u won't be out gunned find a gbb only game.
@Callsign_Jaeger6 жыл бұрын
Thank you kindly for your reply. Having to frequently maintain and clean your firearms is somthing I actually enjoy so I don't believe that'd be a concern for me. Do you mean they're expensive compared to aeg's? I haven't checked on any AEG's yet, my price range would be somewhere beween 300€ and 500€ wich I consider rather low priced compared to some of my other firearms. (lead spitting ones.....) The only point you've mentiond I'm slightly concerned about would be being outgunned in the field, which to me sounds like you're implying most people just run around with a spray and pray mentality. Did I get that wrong?
