Pantheon was a great fit for the park and easily the best coaster there. Me and my son Alex both thought it was great, but it won’t crack my Top 20 of the 605 coasters I’ve ridden. It’s great to see Sophie trying out the bigger intense coasters. It’s great to have your kid as your “Ride or die” partner (Fast & Furious) for coasters. It’s cool to have something that bonds you that brings happy lifelong memories!

Yeah I’m glad to see this park finally get that standout coaster. Not really accessible for me to ride anytime soon but I got on Velocicoaster a couple weeks ago which seems to be a mildly similar level of thrill and if it’s anything close to that work of art in IOA then it is exactly what BGW needed

This is a great coaster for sure. I’ve never been on any coasters outside of BGW and Walt Disney World from what I remember, but Pantheon and Griffon are the best coasters I’ve ridden so far.

I'm glad you loved Pantheon. I keep hearing people say it was just okay or that it was underwhelming. I will easily admit that the queue, loading station and theming are genuinely embarrassing for BGW. They should have done WAY better. But when viewed as a coaster it is really so good. From what I had heard I thought it would be good but nothing special. But I think it easily beats Maverick and it made it into my personal top 5. And I came away shocked that I like Pantheon more than its BGT counterpart Iron Gwazi. Call me crazy.

I haven’t ridden Pantheon but I’ve ridden VelociCoaster and Iron Gwazi so I might have the same opinion, I like VelociCoaster more and it wasn’t really close, iron Gwazi was closer to Mako for me

@@hangtimestudio I do like Mako quite a bit but for me Iron Gwazi is superior to Mako. But I think Pantheon still edges out Iron Gwazi because I think the elements flow really well and the airtime is more sustained. I think a lot of people love Iron Gwazi partly because it's very well paced but also because it's very different from the other RMCs and people have gotten excited about it being different. I think that's the reason so many people rank it above Steel Vengeance. Steel Vengeance is like a gigantic version of Whicked Cyclone and New Texas Giant combined but with better pacing and execution. But they are still similar. Iron Gwazi is unlike anything RMC had previously done (other than arguably Zadra.) But to me being different doesn't automatically make Iron Gwazi better. I still think Steel Vengeance beats Iron Gwazi, as does Lightning Rod. I think Iron Gwazi's real strength is that it is very chaotic. If that's what you like then you'll love Iron Gwazi. And while it does have several very good airtime moments, I think that Steel Vengeance and Lightning Rod still have better airtime. And equally important to me is that the elements flow well together. I feel the same way about Pantheon. Even people who feel that the top hat and outer banked turn should be taken at a faster speed, they still need to acknowledge that each element flows really well from one to the next. Pantheon lets you experience each element to its fullest extent before moving on to the next thing. Iron Gwazi feels like every element is cut short because it wants to move on to something else too quickly so nothing is sustained (except the first drop and wave turn.)

@@hangtimestudio I have rode Iron Gwazi, Velocicoaster, Pantheon, and Mako and Pantheon just felt a bit boring to me and I have no idea how, Iron Gwazi definitely feels more intense than Pantheon and Velocicoaster to me, and Mako just feels like it wasn't meant to be intense so I don't think that deserves to be in this comparison

Pantheon is elite. My #10 out of 427 credits. I was really impressed with it. I think the people who complain about the lacking of theming just don't enjoy a really good coaster!

I'm not as impressed with it as you are (technical issues, low capacity, and unaccommodating lapbars are big problems), but I'm glad you liked it a lot.

I love your hat, Chris! Great job, Sophie, in bringing that to your dad. Great report from BGW. I was there on the day you posted this. An early evening storm-nearby scared away everyone. Pantheon was a walk-on for the last hour, and I got to stay on the train a couple times. Agreed, it is amazing! But it sure is a technical nightmare. It goes down all the time. It went down for an hour because the winds got to 10 mph, and that's just one of many things that make it go down. I got very lucky that day with that marathon at the end.

I'm glad to see you had an awesome time at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I was there back in I think April, and loved every single ride at the park. I got three rides on Pantheon during my time there one middle of the train, and two back row and they were absolutely insane. Griffon was my first dive coaster I ever rode and I rode that like 8 times or so between Saturday and Sunday. They honestly do not have a bad coaster at the park. Worst for me was tempesto since it really didn't do anything for me and those trains are hard as hell to get in and out of.

I visited BGW for the first time ever yesterday. Sadly Alpenheist was closed but I got to ride everything else. Loved Pantheon, Griffon, Verbolten, DarKoaster and Apollo’s Charriott. InvadR was pretty rough but not bad. Tempesto was fast and smooth but super short.

I mean, those who love intensity will have I-305 as the best coaster of all time, because no other ride is as bananas with g-forces as it. But for a more complete ride that you can endlessly marathon, Pantheon has it easily beat. Because trust me, if you can manage more than five rides on Intimidator without taking a break, you have issues

Sorry, I agree with Chris that I-305 is highly overrated and I don’t think it’s very intense. It wasn’t the best ride in the park when Volcano was there and it’s not the best now because of Twisted Timbers.

Pantheon is a wonderful addition to Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Alpengeist is a tale of 2 halves. Everything up to the midcourse is intense, but it is held back by the trims.

KD has more coasters than BGW so if you prioritize variety of coasters that wins. That said, I think that BGW wins in every other regard. The average quality of coasters at BGW is better than KD (though the top 2 at KD is admittedly very good.) And when you move beyond the coasters BGW destroys KD. I'm not saying KD is bad. It really is quite charming and has some decent food and nice atmosphere. But it really can't compete for atmosphere with BGW. And BGW is certainly better when it comes to entertainment, dining and shopping. BGW really is like a near Disney park with Cedar Fair thrills.

@@1tsBeyond that's fair. That being said, I'm not just comparing the theming. I'm comparing the atmosphere. For example, Cedar Point is a park with only a little theming in a few sections. But the park has very good atmosphere throughout. Contrast that with Kentucky Kingdom. I enjoy Kentucky Kingdom and for a small park it has a solid coaster collection. But the park atmosphere is pretty bad. Kings Dominion has pretty good atmosphere but it's not as nice as Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I really think overall park experience has a big impact on the day. That means having good ride operations, plenty of shade for hot days, places to eat with decent food, a nice aesthetic and nice vistas. Furthermore, it helps when queue lines aren't boring. If you're going to spend your day waiting for rides then a park is really failing you if the wait is boring, overly hot, overly loud, or too cramped. So I get that for some people their park experience is mostly focused on the coasters. But I think the experience leading up to those coasters has a big impact on a park experience overall. Now if you genuinely only begin to care about a park the moment you are seated in your coaster train and then you stop caring the moment you get out of your seat then I guess that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But if that is your take I'd still say Busch Gardens Williamsburg has the better coaster collection unless you planned to only marathon Twisted Timbers and I-305 all day.

I'm glad you decided to walk there. There are no sidewalks along Route 60, but there is a large grass median and a lot of turn lanes that separate you from traffic. Plus there isn't very much traffic since it is all local traffic since it runs along the interstate. Walk along the tram track that is used for overflow. We easily do it every time. It's a 15 min walk from the Doubletree Williamsburg. It's a shame they don't offer the shuttle anymore like they used to from there. Kingsmill still offers their shuttle. You'll be asleep in your hotel before an Uber driver shows up.

I was so mad when I went in June. They shut the ride down for the day because some teenager took his phone out on the ride, dropped it, and it (supposedly) got lodged in some magnets that were on the track. I hope you had a great time though!

I became an enthusiast because I had skipped Alpie my first time at BGW to be nice and hang with Wifey while the kids rode it. When I realized my mistake we came right back! Then my Daughter and I became obsessed and hit up about 10 new to us parks that year. She was a brave kid! I didn't ride Invadr with the original trains so I can't comment on them, but the trains you got on were from Gwazi at Tampa. Fun ride. I've only been on a few Intamins, but Pantheon for me is my new number 1 before Storm Runner and Skyrush at Hersheypark.
