I am baffled how she is not recognized for being an outstanding vocalist. You have people out in the music business who can't even sing live and yet Chante who has this incredible talent and gets no recognition.

@blkindians79747 жыл бұрын
i followed her career since her first c.d. and i never heard anything about drama and lack of business skills. don't let 30 mins of an episode of (L.A. Divas) allow u 2 damage a woman that's been in the industry for 20 years and has managed to sing with everyone and not be in the publics eye for anything but her voice and writing style.
@damoncolquhoun6 жыл бұрын
She is recognized for being an outstanding vocalist. I've been a fan since day one. I remember when Babyface had to choose between producing her or El Debarge and he went with Debarge. She ended up making her first album with George Duke, and it was brilliant! The problem I saw was that her career took a left turn after her first two albums - which were basically adult contemporary R&B (read: not a popular selling genre at the time). Her first album peaked at 101 on the Billboard 200 and at 20 on the R&B charts. Her second hit 64 and 11. Both were critically acclaimed. On her 3rd and 4th albums, she stopped making the critically acclaimed music she'd become known for and basically went pop with more mainstream producers (Jermaine Dupree, Rodney Jerkins). She got some buzz from that, but she was never really seen in the same prestigious light again. To make matters worse, her first album went gold, but that was the most she would sell. Her attempt at going mainstream actually ended with her selling fewer albums.

I've read the comments and see where everybody is coming from and as always beyonce has to be thrown in the mix. This woman, Chante, is a true VOCALIST. She doesn't need to get half naked or bounce around all over the stage her voice is a rare gift others can only dream of having. Her beauty and figure is up there with the best of them but what she has that they don't is that vocal talent.

Greg, I agree with you totally. I'm tired of the artists who use their bodies more than their voices. Some of them have voices that no one would even listen to if they weren't simultaneously gyrating their bodies and simulating sex acts.

Seriously. On a mere human, that business will cause your vocal cords to seize up after a line or two. That's why Mariah will usually only sing one or two quick lines in that register.
