The first story is wild to me because basically the friend wants to pay 3k to ruin the OP's wedding day. It's important to the friend that she doesn't know, which implies the goal is to actually make her suffer the humiliation and disrespect of the joke being done at her expense; given the lyrics, the punchline is that on her supposedly most joyous day, on the moment of the dance she's been planning and anticipating for years, she gets told she isn't loved. It's a cruel joke and no amount of money is worth it. At no point was it said that they needed money desperately to even consider this an option, that's why she was quick to say no. What is there to consider? Seems like the couple may have differences in values worth discussing further. The whole thing is weird, why didn't Ian save it for pranking his own future bride if he thinks it's so funny?

no he should keep it up, taking it down is letting them get away with their behaviours. other people in his life have to know they act this way, so realistically it's not a surprise. i think publicly shaming them for blatantly favoring their daughter is fair after so many times.

I agree with everything you said, and knowing that everyone in his life is aware of this, it’s no longer a private matter so the video isn’t really spilling tea or telling their business. As well as they stood him up publicly, they should be shamed publicly. If they had a little bit more respect for their son maybe there would’ve been a little bit more respect in that video, You get treated, how you treat other people so they should take this L. Not to mention, I know, we all heard that they didn’t make it to his graduation in the list of examples….

For the gods plan wedding situation, I think it should be entirely decided by the bride. She is the one being pranked and humiliated, not the groom. Don’t talk to me about compromise if YOU want to embarrass ME. He’s giving up less than her. Had to get this off my chest 😂

I feel like the bigger issue with this wedding is the hold this rich friend is having over their wedding. It's like he's looking for clout over this guy by offering him $3,000 to prank his fiance on one of the most important days of their life. Why are they giving this guy that much power for such a cheap ass price?
@dc-13258

If a rich friend wanted to “prank” my wedding day…they’re paying for the ENTIRE wedding PLUS our honeymoon. And you bet we flying internationally in first class. You don’t just get to prank a friend’s wedding period! And if you’re offering money, $3k is chump change IMO. The audacity of the rich friend to even wanna pull a prank and then lowball them like that lol.

Parents just mad they got called out and their true colors are showing. That's the best part about family. Family doesn't necessarily mean blood. And some are unlucky enough to be born to a family who cares but you can always make and find a family who cares. Know your worth.

I think they deserve to have it thrown in their face cause maybe they'd realize how hurtful that must be. I think it depends on how important that dance is to her, based off the given info the friend has an inkling that the dance is important and that’s why he’s made such offer. I think the husband is aware as well but because of maybe how much of an impact the 3k can make for them he brought it to her to see if she’d be willing to consider it… but based off her reaction if I was him I wouldn’t push the issue any further obviously this means a lot to her and no amount of money is worth that. For me personally not really being a mushy / hate being the center of attention I would be happy to make the dance a little “fun” for lack of better terms but this decision is not for everyone.

I ain’t gon lie…I’m keeping that shit up and reposting it every anniversary for every year y’all ignored me and my feelings until I’ve gone through enough therapy to where posting it no longer satisfies me. I wouldn't have posted such a video, but once it's up... It's up and I agree with it. The disrespect to not attend to your son's wedding because your daughter's dog is sick... It's baffling. I say this as someone who loves their dog VERY much, to the point I've cried my eyes out on the way to the vet the one time he had to be sedated. As the sister, I would not let my parents miss such an event and I would do my best to attend myself as well, regardless of how hard depression is hitting me that particular day. It's not like I didn't have months to mentally prepare for that one day. One day. I have to be there for my sibling. It's THE one day.

My take on the 3k first dance is ... How much are you spending on your wedding? Because if it ruins the wedding for the bride and your spending 10k that's a wasted 7k. You spent all that money and weren't happy. If you spent about 3k small wedding ehhh why not. But I would also negotiate for more as the grom if Ian really is so rich. Be like ehhh I would do it for 5k. But they should both be in the same page regardless

I had a dynamic a little bit like this in my family… where my parents basically sacrificed stuff I was to do to soothe my sister’s tantrums. Not to the level of this guy, but similar in nature. And I will just say - it’s easy to say that outside looking in, but when you are in it - your family conditions you to feel guilty for standing up for yourself. They spin it so it feels like it’s your fault. It’s very difficult to change that kind of dynamic, especially if you are still in the middle of this. Fortunately - in my case - we were able to rebuild our relationship, but it was difficult and needed effort on both sides. I still have strained relationship with my sister tho. I also believe strongly that their parents aren’t sorry for doing that. They are embarrassed by being called out publicly - because that’s how my parents reacted when being called out. So I guess I am projecting a little bit 😅

Story 1: $3K is a lowball figure, and the fact that the groom's so-called "friend" knows enough about their financial situation to offer that amount of money for the groom to *prank his bride during their wedding,* because he knows it's enough to make the groom consider doing it, makes him a shitty person, and idek if the groom should keep him around.

Nah. Coming from child of neglect and abuse, the only reason they want it taken down is because now other people can see how badly they have treated him. They have no intention to "make it up to him" they just dont want to be called out for their behavior. Imo being able to expose your parents lies and abuse is better than therapy (therapy is still recommended tho)

i say never take that down since that would likely just reinforce the parents’ trash behavior. instead, edit the post to change the “audience” who can see it to specific friends only: parents, family members, those who were at the wedding, whoever they want that post to be available to. that way not just anyone who scrolls through their page or has their posts come up in their feed can see it but it still serves as a reminder and an ultimatum for the parents to do better and own their ish

I’m sorry but she’s not a bridezilla for not wanting one of the most important parts of her wedding to be ruined by a selfish friend with a selfish prank. If he wanted to gift them $3000 for their wedding that would be fine but the fact that he tied it to a prank to humiliate the wife is rude that would never fly with me. For him to even say that she should consider it was not even taking into account her feelings and the fact that his friend wanted to humiliate her at her own wedding and then dangled money in front of him to make it happen.

Bridezilla has become a term that people use to make women do what they want. Like hysterical or shrill. It originally meant people who made over the top demands, abused the vendors and wedding party and acted as if it was their day alone and not about their partner too. Now they use it any time a girl getting married says no to something

"Take it down. Nobody needs to know our business like this" is a bad bad way to handle it. We are talking about parents that repeatedly don't show up. If it was a one off, sure. Keep it in house. But when dealing with folks that take you for granted ALL THE TIME, the rules are different. Clearly the parents don't understand how their actions impact him. I'd wager they understand now because the feedback/comments on the video probably spells out how trash they've been.

That last AITA is bittersweet. The parents should take responsibility for their mistakes. It's important to be present in key events of your child's life. They only graduate once, they only have a wedding once (unless remarrying ofc). Obviously, it's difficult to dismiss one child to care for another, without someone being left out. But as a parent, you make up for that through time. It sounds as though the parents just didn't make up for it. Sister plays victim, mum doesn't leave the house and plays victim. They need to acknowledge these things in the past and leave it on a good note before moving forward. It's completely up to the son to make a decision in the end. As far as the son taking the video down, sounds like they're grown enough to make a decision for themselves. Big shoutout to the best man for taking note of the family situation, this is obviously something he noticed the son was affected by and knew it'd be something to take lightly rather than with a heavy heart.

With regards to the wedding one, I think it's a good thing to start implementing those boundaries now, I would either say if you want to work on the relationship maybe take it down in exchange for going to family therapy cause this is a chronic issue and it would be good to have a mediator there to work through those issues, if you don't see them even attempting to want to reconcile this relationship I think leaving it up or taking it down doesn't matter but start with implementing boundaries to keep them at arms length cause if this person say ever has children are those kids going to be secondary grandchildren now and they have this whole new family and their friends can be their village so they don't need their parents anymore

It sucks and it seems as though OP had had a conversation with his parents concerned this very thing would happen. They assured him it wouldn't after a life time of being dismissed and disappointed by the parents. I could see taking it down and taking some space letting the parents know that OP is hurt and there is a consequence to actions and it doesn't have to be a video being up for a life time, but it might be no contact. Because it's not just him anymore he has a wife now and possible future children that don't deserve to be treated so dismissively.

Money… should not be the convincing aspect of any decision especially if it’s being used against you. The wedding is not for anyone else’s entertainment, and it’s not a roast or comedy show. Save it for your bachelor party, the wedding is filled with fun and dancing, No one needs to ruin a first dance over something so stupid, like let the boys do a little speech show for him at the reception and leave it at that. They are participants, not the leading show. Also, why are the friends not gonna tell her? It’s her wedding. Again, why are they convinced that day is about them? They also said they make a lot of money so they are just using that to convince her.

I wonder if the groom brought up the fact that the parents chose their daughter's dog over their own son's wedding. And how the heck do you even make it up to couple?

So there was no rehearsal dinner? No tuxedo fitting, etc.? Both parents had to stay home with a sick dog? They had no intention of coming. He knew it and they knew it. So he shared the voice-mail and his friend felt his hurt and acted. He's not the AH but at some point no one sees old posts so there's really no reason to take it down. He needs to have a talk with the sister to understand why she's jealous of him getting attention so she pulls these stunts to keep the parents.

Don't usually comment but I just needed to let it out that for the first story, that friend will NOT ruin our big moment for only 5k! Do you know how much weddings cost nowadays? He needs to offer at least 100k. If I really wanted to save money, I can uninvite him instead. LOL

$3000… take the money. Have the finance tell Ian to have cash on hand at the wedding. After the first dance he walks over and gets the cash. Have the groom take the mic from the DJ or band, walk his wife out onto the dance floor and have her say “thanks Ian! That was the easiest $3k I’ve ever made!” Turn it around on Ian, but AFTER you get the cash!

1st story: I have to remember the age of these podcasters. 😊 I kept thinking maybe it wasn’t $3k maybe it was $30k. There is no way the bride is the AH and the husband in my mind is childish. Definitely a two yes situation. It’s not even something I would even bring to my spouse. Why would he be okay with his friend humiliating his wife at her wedding for money and laughs! Absolutely not.

I mean, we’re talking about his MARRIAGE… a once time moment in life… and they chose his sister’s dog because it’s sick ? HIS SISTER’S DOG. They don’t care about him, so.. maybe he’s not right but he has all the motivation to do it and don’t give a fuck about it, just like their parents did to him

The only thing I could think of is if the daughter has autism or something along those lines and is prone to like debilitating melt downs or something. I work in the Special Education system and I have seen case where this happens and parents end up putting their all into one child and the others sadly get neglected. I'm not justifying the parents actions I just can't understand how else parents can continuously make this mistake.

I read in a comment that the OP said in a reply she doesn’t have any mental conditions but again it’s from comment. I understand though how parents can fall into that trap if one child has special needs.

If a dog being sick is more important than my wedding, f those parents. Especially if it has been a lifelong experience. Edit: the approach if not airing your dirty laundry in public has been enabling bad behaviour and abuse for so long. Maybe we should start talking about horrible family members.

Think of how miserable it was for him to have to explain to everyone there why his family didn't attend. Family made a choice and they need to live with the choice they made. Nothing that was said or done with inaccurate the family just doesn't like how it makes them look which is them problem not a bride and groom problem. I think his answer makes sense when you made it up to me then I will take it down. It just shows the gravity of their choices that you can't make up a wedding.

Story 1: First it's ruining the first dance, and the next thing you know, this "friend" will be paying to ruin gender reveals / baby showers, Christenings, birthday parties, anniversaries, basically anything and everything is fair game for his own amusement. Soon to be Husband needs to grow a spine and realize that this is disrespect towards both of them and their relationship and he needs to shut it down unless he wants to be knocking on this friend's door in a year because his wife has had enough.

It’s kind of a public matter if publicly they bail on you, so much so, that others notice how infrequent the support is. Leave it up. If you can’t show up in public, why would it matter what happens on the public internet. It’s gaslighting and abuse(neglect) in a quite literal, pure form.

See I'm petty and there is no one in their life. That wouldn't have gotten this video sent to them. They're Barbara their coworkers everyone on their friends list Sister and parents I would reupload it every anniversary And if more than 2 years passed without them trying to make it up for me which they can't I would include the voicemail where they said they would At the end of the video

The video needs to be left up. The parents are neglectful and disrespectful to their son. The sister seems to do this on purpose every time and the parents let her. While yall are saying no one needs to know their business. I think sometimes the best medicine is to publicly expose peoples wrong doings. This is one of those moments that I feel it’s okay to publicly expose them for this. They chose their spoiled golden child over their son’s special day. Like he said once in a lifetime. The parents have just made it clear that contact is pointless as well. They only are saying anything to “make it up” because they got exposed. Had the video never been published they would continue their selfish ways like they have been. Maybe now since everyone knows what they did they can reflect and grow from it. Also the sister is trash point blank. Im sorry but its your brothers day and you have to make it about yourself every single time? Trash ass sister!

For the wedding video one, I would take it down, but only for the OP to focus on the good with his wife. They got married around the people that care for them and move forward with themselves. BUT never let the parents live it down. They say something spicy, just say the words ‘Wedding Video’ and leave. And to be full petty, people will get used to the video if it’s always up. Take it down and refresh it every anniversary, as an extra reminder of your day.

He should keep the video up. He might not be gaining anything from it but he isnt loosing anything either since his parents OBVIOUSLY chose his sister and her bs over him when he had important things in life. I wouldn’t be surprised if something happened to his sister on his birthday

OP didnt state how old they are, but the sisters is 6 years older and gets the favoritism regardless. Which is weird as hell if lets say theyre in their 30 or 40's. While I understand both sides of not wanting your family business out there and keeping it there cause its the internet so itll be there regardless, I also think its simply the consequences of the parents choices. They chose to put the sister first for his whole life, even up to his celebration of marriage. It sounds like this behavior will only be continued. It sounds like the parents are upset their favoritism/bad parenting is being exposed. There's a lose lose for op if he keeps the vid up regardless cause he will always be given the short stick. Keeping the video up is simply not allowing the behavior to continue and they cant get away with it like they always had.

No. If they did that at my wedding, the wedding would be off. "$3,000 is so much money" enough to ruin the biggest day of many people's lives? Enough to humiliate someone with a song, on their wedding day, that they aren't truly loved??? Enjoy that $3,000, because we sure as fuck aren't getting married if you were okay with ruining what's supposed to be a perfect day. I rather be with someone who, with their family and friends, will allow the wedding to be as perfect as it should be. Many weddings go off without a hitch, why does *MINE* have to be ruined????? Yes, weddings are expensive... *SO WHY RUIN MY DAY!?!?* It's not even *WORTH* the rest of the wedding at that point!!!! Why even have a wedding if I can't enjoy it!?!?
