Same situation happened to me and my friends 2 days back. A forest officer caught us and told us not to continue any further in a trail thinking we can't do it or it's too unsafe for us. Like you said..how can we explain it to them... that's what we are looking for in the trail😂 surprises, challenges, slush fest and falls. Also we had done the same trail few times before. But we had to understand the officer's concern and return back as he was pretty strict about it.
