Aja (Steely Dan) - Bass Cover by Lars-Erik Dahle

It's been on the cards for a while, and today I finally did it. All 7 minutes and 59 seconds of Steely Dan's progressive jazz/pop fusion masterpiece Aja.
I mean, what can you say about this track that ‪@RickBeato‬ hasn't already said? Steve Gadd and Wayne Shorter brings their soloist A game to an already all-star cast of players and knocks it out of the park. The full tilt latin rock groove at the end never fails to put a huge smile on my face, and here's the evidence.
This tune is not a bass feature, but without Chuck Rainey's eminent pocket and sense of low end melody holding it all together, it would be a very different record. An honor to play.
As ever, recorded at home in one unedited take, with my 1974 Precision going through my Avalon VT 737sp preamp.

One of the best players I have seen on the KZbin! The parts you play are spot on and accurate. I know this because I have been playing many of these Steely Dan songs since the Steely first recorded them and released the albums. :) Love the sound of your 74 P bass. I have a 75 I love as well.

Thank you so much for this. I was asked to track this for a recording, and... Well... For reasons I can't grasp, I had never really took the deep dive on the bass line until now. I would say I wish I hadn't opened my mouth and said yes, but I'm a sucker for a challenge, and BOY, is THIS ever a challenge. It's how I've learned so many things.
