Sanjh Aur Savera ( 'Dusk and Dawn') is a 1964 Bollywood romantic drama film starring Guru Dutt, Meena Kumari and Mehmood. It was produced by Sevantilal Shah and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Music of the film was by Shankar Jaikishan. This marked the final film appearance of Guru Dutt who died later in the year of the film's release.
Storyline :-
Dr. Shankar Chaudhry lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay with his widowed mom, Rukmini, and younger sister, Manju. His mom would like him to get married to Ambala-based Advocate Madhusudan's daughter, Maya, even though neither of them have seen her. Shankar does agree to this marriage; the marriage takes place, the bride faints after the formalities; she is looked after by her cousin, Prakash, and Madhusudan; she recovers, and the next day she accompanies Shankar to his home. On the very first night she informs him that since she is undergoing a Holy Fast, she must refrain from any sexual activity. A few days later, Prakash arrives to take her to Banaras where her dad has re-located. Shankar accompanies them and get re-married to her at Bhagwan Vishwanath's Temple. Thereafter, both get intimate and soon Maya becomes pregnant. One day Shankar comes home to find both Prakash and Maya missing...

Earlier I had commented that this wonderful semi classic song was wasted on a comic situation... but watching this video again and again I realized what a master Rafi Sahab is. Human voice has a limit. But after listening to Rafi Saab whether with Lataji, Ashaji aur Suman ji, I become baffled. How can there be so much astonishing variety- sad, cheerful, comic, painful, romantic, naughty, grave classical?; the list will go on. Besides this, his voice employs flawlessly all classical ornaments like gamak, murqui, vibration, and the like. This is impossible without the grace of God. The raag-based song is not a simple one. But the way it is rendered by Rafi Saab with a humming aalaap with due cooperation from Suman ji, is really mind blowing. Unlimited salutes to all these makers of timeless classics.
