In League every champion has a title that refers to him. Jayce is called "Defender of Tomorrow" ;) As I said, you will love what they did with Jayce (and Victor) ^^ Amazing character journeys! Also, just wanna say... if they wanna continue to do more shows that ultimately connect each other, then there need to be some plot points that carry over into the next show and won't be completely resolved within the show. That's why you are right that it is fine if it is not buttoned up like Arcane S1.

It's actually really accurate to say Jayce and Ekko are heroes in this story. It definetly has a lot of that classic mythological aspect of the 'epic hero' who goes through a traitorous path of hardship to strengthen himself. You can clearly see it in this episode. I like the way someone phrased it: *Jayce had to be strong enough to escape Hell.* *Ekko had to be strong enough to escape Paradise.*

Heimerdinger at the start of episode 4 s1 reminisces with Jayce about his late friend, Stanley Padidley, saying that he admired him, because he knew that nothing he accomplished in life could compare to what his students would achieve in the future. And thinking back with context now, I don't think it was just admiration, there was a hint of envy in his word, a envy of the beauty of mortality. Because he could never feel that way, because he outlives every student. So he became estagnant, because if he so chose, he could surpass his students. So its really poetic that his final choice was to sacrifice himself and finally fulfill the mentor role he always dreamed about achieving. Through death, he finally lived

Episode 7 is peak, man. 100% agree with the sentiment of "having a bit of a messy season is worth having an episode like this." Honestly I find that with most media I watch/play, that's usually how it goes. The stories that impact me the most are never really perfect and neatly tied up, and maybe that's just the trade-off that has to happen.

I think it's pretty obvious why this season didn't have the room to breath that it needed, but regardless of that, and it's messiness, it doesnt need to detract from all of the amazing things this season DID do.

"But I never saw you give up on anything Ekko" This is my favourite line in all of Arcane, and I always come back to it and weep. That defines him really, and as much as I usually don't like time related powers as it 99% of the times it is used as plot convenience, I think it's just perfect that it's Ekko that has the right to have this power. The one character who is truly not willing to give up

Firstly your reaction was marvellous 1:32:44 Your take on Powder recreating hex tech seems so spot on to me! I noticed a few things when I watched it that pointed that way too. Not only does she keep the shards of hex tech crystals in that drawer, At particular moments during the montage of Ekko Heimerdinger and Powder creating the anomaly/Z-Drive the frame is split in half between Powder and Ekko showing them do the same thing but in reverse: Powder draws the circle anti-clockwise Ekko clockwise. Powder examines the hex tech shards in the same way Ekko does when he is constructing/putting them together. It felt pretty clear to me that this was happening at a later date after. Or maybe it’s the tin foil hat adorned to my head or something!

The closest reaction Ive watched to the experience I had with this episode. Honestly I was an even bigger mess. It's validating to watch someone who understands how much this episode means to the story. I always find it interesting when people see an AU episode and get upset that it took up the time that an other "current timeline" episode could have taken. When this episode does more to progress these characters and the themes in the show more than ANY current timeline episode could have.

Two things on the importance of music: I think what people were always referring to, when talking about Jinx-Powder and Ekko's relationship in season one, wasn't exactly the context given by the video game (which is practically non-existent, really), but the interactions they have in the music video for Enemy, which masterfully contextualizes the first two arcs of season one. On an equally important level, the French lyrics of the song in this episode during Ekko and Jinx's dance are extremely illuminating about the irreconcilable and tragically beautiful relationship that these two characters have.

I would recommend to watch an musical analysis here on KZbin of s1 and s2 because Viktors Leitmotiv is throughout the series, even in the episode 2 of season 1 when the mage saves child Jayce. So I think the idea that Viktor is the mage was from the beginning. Also the hextech soundtrack also carries Viktors Leitmotiv, they are truly soulmates like you said. The hextech dream that was everything to Jayce carries actually Viktors identity

There's something I appreciate about Silco saying "Greatest thing we can do in life is find the power to forgive" It's hard to see it in a first watch, but if the events happened the way we were told and led to believe. Vander trying to drown Silco in the cold open of s1 ep3 is what Alternative Silco is talking about. Silco is forgiving Vander for trying to kill him (presumably after finding the letter and Heimerdinger aiding Zaun much earlier)

I find it so interesting g how the animation and sound team visualized Jayce’s thought process: from the voice over where Mel and heimerdinger are arguing about hextech, to Jayce vehemently saying „No!“ to Mel’s words and staring into the fire : burning Mel away to reveal Viktor from the moment before Viktor died in the council. For me it was pointing out how he realized that his political career of season 1 ( visualized by Mel) is something that destroyed his relationship with Viktor

This episode should be put into textbooks right next to the word "bittersweet" man. It's so wonderfully tragic in the most beautiful way. My favourtie detail is probably the little medallion Ekko gives her. If you look closely, you can make out the sillhouettes of both Ekko and Powder/Jinx inside of the blue flower (can best be seen at 32:19). Also her putting the medallion into the box of the shrine to me represents her both knowing that he was another Ekko and that he is now gone and she accepts losing him in a way similar to Vi, despite obviously still having her original Ekko. Also everyone urging Powder to use her potential for greater things awell as her having practiced with Hextech through her time spent on the Z-Drive leads me to believe she might end up inventing Hextech later on in this universe, as we can also see she still has the hextech crystals from jayces lab in her possession. Another food for thought: Since Hextech wasn't invented in this universe and the incident in Jayce's Workshop killed a child, I assume that Jayce has probably commited suicide in this timeline, as he already almost did in Season 1 before Viktor stopped him.. Just another example of this universe not being some perfect utopia, or at least having bought that utopia through sacrifice.

Jayce needed to see the worst world to understand there was nothing wrong with the world he lived in. He traded his hextech hammer to bring back the thing he’s always had the whole time since he was born, his leg. Because unlike the technological pleasures he’s always dreamed of giving to the world, he realized what we’ve always had is all we ever needed. Getting saved made him see what the world could be, in a sense, he wanted more of that miracle he experienced, but living as a survivor allowed him to appreciate life as it is. Now, just as he dedicated his life to a world with hextech, he now dedicates his life to returning the world as it is.

I love all the symbolism surrounding Jayce in this episode: - In the first scene Jayce struggles to drag his own hammer which represents the Hextech and the weight of his own mistakes - When he falls and breaks his leg, it is actually his own hammer smashing his leg, he basically ends up like Viktor on a single leg - He then proceeds to dismantle his hammer (the Hexcore, his mistake) to create a walking cane very similar to the one Viktor is using in season 1, the same Viktor that wanted to destroy the Hextech - Which allows him to start climbing and reach the top (the truth) Also regarding Ekko the scriptwriters had to kill Vi in this episode so he could see that Powder had experienced the same kind of trauma during her youth as the original Powder yet she didn't become Jinx, showing off a perfect alternative universe wouldn't have made any sense for Ekko's character development as he would have felt joy but wouldn't have regained hope to fix his own universe (Powder/Jinx and Zaun)

I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere before, and as many times as I've watched this show, this watch was the one that it hit me. The little spinning flower trinket that Powder gets at the end is very much meant to parallel with the device she makes in S1E4/5. Then her putting it there in the drawer next to the stones. I feel stilly for not seeing it sooner. There's a reason for almost every single decision made whether how small or seemingly irrelevant. Things like this....things like Salo talking down to undercity citizens calling them creatures, followed by calling his old self a creature "Who could mend such a broken creature" or whatever. Rewatches are so helpful with absorbing everything they've blessed us with. So good.

I'm assuming ur already watched the finale, hopefully you can next react to "Welcome to Noxus - Bite Marks" it's the 2025 (they make one every year) cinematic for League of Legends, but this year in particuial is special and different because it's related to Arcane and most importantly it can be viewed as a continuation/teaser of what the next story is going to be aka "not arcane s3", the cinematic was animated by fortiche and pretty much looks like 5 minutes taken out of an arcane episode so it's really high quality, it takes place timeline-wise maybe a month after the events of s2e9 when we see Mel arrive to her destination when we last saw her aboard her mother's ship at the end of s2e9, so the cinematic could be thought as a post credits scene of the finale so it's canon s2/s3.

Had some time to listen to this while I was at work and now that I've heard your thoughts on this episode there is one thing I want to pick your brain about. And if anyone else wants to discuss please give me your thoughts. We see Heimerdinger disappear during this episode and while it is a choice he himself made it left me with some mixed feelings that took me a bit to recognize. And ultimately it comes down to how we pretty clearly see our Ekko step into and then out of the Ekko of the 2nd world's body. Which tells me that Heimerdinger most likely arrived in this world in the same way as Ekko, by being insterted into this worlds Heimerdinger. And thus he makes his choice for his other self as well. Basically just want to know how this perspective may/may not inform your view on this. I have my own thoughts but I'll hold them back for now so as to not influence yours.
@ajgdude17 күн бұрын
Yeah I think that's definitely the implication, he seems to have killed this world's self. And while I think that definitely adds even more weight to an incredible sacrifice, given that he did it to save their world I don't think it's something he would have any regrets about. I also think there's a good chance that upon reflection, his AU self would've approved of the choice too. He'd lived a long time as well.
@jmjackson204113 күн бұрын
@@ajgdude I think Heimerdinger might have made the choice to stay and expire because that worlds Heimer had never met Ekko. If our Heimerdinger swapped places, it would put the old uncaring, lazy, kinda clueless about mortality version back on the council and everything our version had built in the last 3 years in the AU would get obliterated through time + neglect. Heimer would literally rather die than subject the world he'd built to a leadership under his old self.

I think this episode is a perfect example of "not everything in a show has to move the plot on". I obviously wont go into detail if it does in this particular case. The funny part is, it is moving the plot on, just in a different world. Like all of this character building could have hapenned to Ekko in his own world, but they were done in a much more clever world here. I have so much respect for Fortiche for this season. They had probably the most flawless season in animation history with S1 and they decided that for the sake of going beyond, they had to risk not being perfect anymore. The costs are some minor pacing issues and plot points that are could have been explored abit further. The result is the best act of Arcane (S2 Act2) and the best episode. They knew they had to "rush" in order to fit this episode in, and they still went for it. Still I firmly believe that the genius of this season is that while the pace is breathtakingly fast at times, it is also so incredibly efficient at telling alot with very little time. I have yet to not find new things rewatching this season. Peak. Cinema. Also one pretty depressing theory I have is that part of the reason why Jayce was not brought to the same reality is that he probably died there. With the explosion killing a child, there is no way that Jayce avoids banishment, meaning Viktor never has the opportunity to "interrupt" Jayce. The 4 seconds are accurate to Ekko in League of Legends, where his ult takes him back to where he was 4 seconds ago. It is also the amount of frames per second in the dance scene.

27:28 - How poetic that this is not only a parallel shot for Jinx making an entrance, but also specifically a moment for Jinx confronting the masked Ekko for the first time seen since the timeskip in S1 ep 4 to show the divide between them. Though now this same type of shot is seen for when they are coming together in the AU. Ekko's and Jinx's 'What If Scenario' was just so pointless if you consider how rushed the rest of the season feels - the time was really needed elsewhere. This is not 'our' Jinx, so it hardly mattered what we learned about her... and Ekko well we already know he had a crush on her, and that Ekko is the closest person to a hero Arcane has. @@jukori I mean, this really feels like you loved the episode, but then heard some other people state these exact things about the episode (I've heard these bullet points repeated verbatim across the internet) and sometimes...people just say shit. Sometimes people have bad takes, or disingenuous takes with media. Trust your instincts. It's crazy for instance to not realize how important it was for Ekko to see Powder in this light to see that Jinx and Powder are the same person, and that she is not gone. Like what could be MORE important than that.
