I'm currently living in Bucerias, a 6 to 7 minute walk to the beach. I easily live on less than $1,600 a month and I like my beer. I'm on the east side of HWY 200. Which is great, because I don't have snowbirds for neighbors. I pay $400 a month for a modern furnished one bedroom, one bath, nice kitchen and lounge room. The electric, cable and wifi are included.

Of course I love your videos. I have lived in Mexico for over five years, full time. You climate is so much different from where I live, Playa del Carmen where AC is used essentially year round. So the electricity, in very hot an humid area is much, much greater than what you guys spend.

My husband has been hounding me that he wants us to retire in Mexico. He has family there, but I have family in the US so it's a hard decision to make. But we do visit yearly and I love it there. Love the people, love the food and it's a beautiful country. So who knows what the future holds.

Very informative! Yesterday our sweet Golden Retriever Buddy had hip surgery here in Juriquilla, Querétaro. An orthopedic surgeon, a veterinarian doctor, and an assistant were present. The cost in dollars was $500. I can’t imagine what it would have cost in the States!

Much Aloha and Mahalo! Sounds like you spent too much time in Waimanalo as I did now dealing with those nasty spots. Recently found you, subscribed and been catching up. We are just a few years or less away from relocating to Mexico. Wife is a dual citizen and back in the early 90's we lived in Mexico and loved it. It is about time someone mentioned those hidden costs and most importantly "inflation". It becomes difficult running budgets to actual costs. Your inflation rate seems high, I would assume you are throwing in "exchange rate inflation" as well. Best I could describe it.. With that, I could understand the 12%. Looks like projected "Mexico" inflation rate within Mexico will stabilize between 3-5% over the next 5 years. Same as the USA. The problem is calculating the exchange conversion - projected to 14ish in a year or two then stabilize a bit. All unpredictable but calculations that one would need to put into there budgeting. Alot of people benefited in the rise from 10 to 22 exchange now to only feel a very painful pullback to 17 creating that 12% pain and unfortunate further pullback to 14 in the coming years. People need to understand that their earnings and draws from US dollar accounts need to grow over not only inflation but exchange of currency rates year over year or they will go under water after X years or very quickly. Long winded, but I appreciate your integrity, honesty and what both of you do straight up! I am sure people watched and had an artery blow when you said 12% inflation which you would be correct. You said it right for folks to better prepare for a happier stress-free retirement by being prepared. Appreciate the both of you, Aloha

In my experience overall living costs in Mexico are less than north of the border but it's not night and day cheaper. I doubt anyone is going to go from barely scrapping by to living like a prince. On the medical side you'll usually find it a lot cheaper than in the US but end up in the ICU for a couple of weeks after a serious heart attack or stroke and that can set you back US$50,000 or more. That's a lot less than you'd pay in the US if you don't have Medicare but it's still a big hit to your budget. Much of it comes down to your own particular circumstances.

My friend payed $28,000 for a triple bypass heart surgery in Guadalajara. Care was incredible. I think she was in there for 12 days. But the aftercare was even more amazing. She got 2 home visits from the doctor, who drove to her house in Ajijic, and daily home care for several weeks. All amazing care. She raves about it.

Thanks for sharing! My food here in SC USA is $450-500 a month for 1 person and I only eat out once a month. I’m on keto diet which is more expensive. I think you’re doing pretty well in one of the most expensive areas of Mexico. The traffic and cobblestones in Ajijic are the downsides for me. I missed having my own car and was too scared to drive there. I also sprained my foot on the stones. I decided I’m more comfortable here in the USA even though it’s more expensive.

Laurie, I sometimes find certain vitamins good for different problems, I use Swanson or Puritan products. Do some research, there are some that do little but cost large. That is why I recommended the ones I chose.

Mine cost me 700 p for an hour, home visit. Mind you my Massage Therapist is very qualified with papers and also working on his chiropractic license.

If you come in as a temporary resident visa you're looking at $2700 a month income you need to show for six months if you were married that second person can come in for $900 a month. If you're coming in as a permanent resident you need to show $3500 a month for the first person and the second person would be around $900-$1200 a month for a married partner.

Cool video thank you. My wife Linda and I have a secret insurance policy for worldwide travel. We are a 56 to 60 year old couple and we pay $1900 a year for emergency insurance with a zero deductible if we use in-house hospitals. 5K deductible, if we do not use in-house hospitals . Not much of a shake down to get the insurance. We had a broker . The in house hospital in Ajijic is Lakeside Medical. Lori, we will trade our insurance broker referral for your massage therapist referral. We are in Ajijic now because of you until the 21st.

I spend $15us per month for my virtual mail that includes 30 scans per month. $10us for a Telcel Amigo 200 plan per month, with unlimited calls to the US and Canada. I'm a guy but still don't know why you spend $40us per month for clothes. I still wear my 30+ year old jeans, I still have a six pack and I am not sporting a keg! I may buy some new shorts for summer if want to be more stylish on my walks around town and at the beach. I don't drink except for the occasional beer with dinner. For my first month here at an Airbnb without a kitchen, I spent a little less than $300us for food, that's going out for sit down breakfasts with lots of fish tacos for lunch and something different for dinners with some little things from Soriano and tiendas for a few breakfasts at home like yogurt and fresh fruit. I spend $600us per month for an apartment that includes all utilities. I have a car but rarely drive anywhere, everything I need is within easy walking distance. Everywhere I go people are smiling, happy and helpful. You can still hear kids laughing and playing in the streets. Google "Mercado Negro" it's a fish market down near the beach malecon. You can go by there for some excitement and great food and that's only a three mile bike ride or walk from where I am. Just do it! Buena suerte!

Jerry, on a different KZbin channel I was informed that Mexico changed it's visa requirements. You now have to have a minimum of $2600 US monthly income to come into the country. I'm Canadian, so that is over $3000 a month Canadian. Is this correct?

Inflation is very, very painful in the USA where prices have unnecessarily doubled for many products - here eggs are $5/dozen, but they are not much higher in Mexico than they were a few years ago. Where you have local products transportation costs that have sky-rocketed, don't have much effect. In the USA, it's like boarding a boat operated by fools - you'll be lucky if it doesn't sink. Looking at medical care in Mexico, it's economical and excellent quality in Mexico, but in the USA they are slap happy about billing and they do everything they can to jack up the cost and reduce the services. I always say if they don't have respect for the people, they cannot be trusted to do the best for their patients - they are victimizing the patients.
