That's cz he was and Shardul Thakur is a BOWLER and pretty ordinary one at that. Irfan Pathan was made to open and what not but when the main skill (bowling) wasn't potent enough, he was dropped, and rightly so.

I guess Shardul Thakur resembles Ajit Agarkar in many ways, be it stature, Team, and abilities. @@pulseofages India and Dhoni could have use d Irfan in a better way, however the problem with Irfan was that there were many batsmen at that time who can bowl, and secondly there were many spin bowling all-rounder (Yusuf Pathan, Yuvraj, Jadeja etc) who can do the same job as Irfan can do. @@vishalkod his talent was way above his performance. He could have been one of the greatest all rounders in Indian Cricket History. He was a freakish athlete, a great fielder, knew batting basics and could swing the ball. But his talent was not nurtured well.

He was a promising batter when he started. I feel the 2000 Down under tour dented his batting abilities gruesomely. For sure he was a far more capable batter than his record shows.

Sadly, he is more popularly remembered for his numerous ducks instead of this century. Its almost like he has an on-off switch for batting which was turned on only during this innings.
