I think a huge beginner's tip lies in the fact that the process should be just as, if not more, exciting than the product. Take your time to appreciate your minifigs, your sets, your lighting, and your camera angles. Each part of the project should be interesting and fun! These things take a long, long time but the time consumption shouldn't concern you if every frame is a painting.

The thing that always keeps me from attempting to make my own is struggling with a terrible degree of perfectionism.
