One of my parties favorite strategies for dealing with devils is mercy and kindness. Nothing makes a devil more predictably hostile than that, and so they fall right in to a well layed trap when they either immediately try to stab us in the back or come for revenge later. We're good but we ain't stupid, and hoping for the best while expecting and accounting for the worst has made us the bane of devils in our campaign. Perhaps you could discuss a bit on how and why Devils wind up on the Material Plane. Outside of being summoned, there doesn't seem to be much information on the topic. But if an entire city can be pulled into Avernus, surely a small army of Devils could pop into a Material world.
@jacobfreeman54444 жыл бұрын
Going in is the easy part. Leaving is the hard part. Divine law keeps them from traveling to the prime material plane under their own power. The gods do not want them leaving for anything short of a summoning or an outbreak of the abyss. And then go straight back with no detours. So yes, you could summon them in, but almost none of them can leave. Rakshasa can and this is the thing that makes them valuable to hell. But as I understand it they paid an enormous and bitter price to enjoy that luxury.

I've been working on this for a while now. AJ is right, let them. Thing that's most important though is the cost. Devil's don't just give away power, it has to come with a heavy cost, and likely very little good will come of using said power. If your fighter wants to be king, maybe some chain of events lead to him being crowned king, but then the kingdom falls to ruin and the people blame him and throw him out of a tower window 😂 before he hits the ground, there will be the devil come to collect what is now his. Ya know stuff like that. There is always a terrible price to pay when dealing with fiends

Maybe try to make plays on words or take things literally to the extreme, to the point of being almost a jerk because when it comes right down to it they the player are not really making a pact with you the dm, the pc is making a pact with the fiend. Also probably important that you make the player understand that is the case because sometimes people can get upset when their character really gets screwed over

Thousands of years to be a horned devil. This is why evil cultists fight so hard and do the things they do. If they feel they are already headed to the lower plane, why not get a head start on the hierarchy by serving as mortal agents and skipping some of that grind? It describes the Orthon as bounty hunters, so I'm thinking of the potential for one to show up and offer to assist the PCs, since they're both after the same target. Part of my idea with this is that this Orthon may try to sweeten the deal by offering to the PC who's doomed to the Nine Hells a position as an imp "sidekick" rather than starting off as a Lemure. Regarding the Malebranche name, it is not to be confused with the so-called 'War-Devils', which are essentially beefed-up, oversized horned devil-like fiendish bullies on steroids which ranged in size from Huge up to the taller end of Gargantuan, depending on their original form. Despite their brutish appearance and agressive demeanor - as well as very accepting of degrading orders from higher devils, from borderline suicidal commands to being used as mounts on occasion - Malebranches are actually quite clever, capable leaders as well as resourceful tacticians, not to mention aerial aces capable of agile maneuvers and stealthy approach, in spite of their size. While they are sometimes cited as 'the greatest Horned Devils' (some would even surmise that they are in fact ascended Cornugons), their rank in Hell's hierarchy seems inconsistent, varying according to the sources used, although more often than not referred to as greater Baatezu. Also, although I already mentionned it on this channel, it still irks me quite a bit that 5E removed most Outsider's (most importantly, fiends') spell-like abilities and reduced their skills (and feats) to, well, nothing or almost. For instance, Cornugon used to able to hurl a few Fireballs and Lightning bolts a day, as well as capable of teleporting themselves and summoning lesser devils, like most devils of their rank, not to mention their Circle Against Good and some illusion effect (quite useful for battlefield control/deterrence). Also, Regeneration. And what about their Fear Aura, which used to be common among fiends (or worse, Insanity, in the case of the Obyrith)? Mortals should have a serious case of the heebie-jeebies if not just plain cower in fear just standing in the vicinity of something so alien and intrisically Evil to the core. Even though I'm no coward, I know I most likely would, too X'D Anyway, great job as always, AJ! Keep it up!

In previous edition item's such as nipple piercing . They fell in to a slot less item grouping for a simple item for the body part found on them as if it was a magic item for the same body part item . If it take a bigger form such as how big piercing can be then they may take the entire item slot up . RAW in previous edition you could have a slot less item for X body part such as a robe and a slot less item that can be on the body still while benefit from both effect's . As for 5E this is more of ask your GM question for how many item's you can have for a given item slot before they interfere with each other . For character benefiting from magical tattoo's , piericing , robes or etc item for differant category of item slot's for the same item slot. I could see a diabolical kyton mortal follower doing this to their body beside for the visual look's it give to npc for how many piercing they can have at a given time.

Infernal wound I wonder how it would look like if a warforged was hit. They’re technically alive and could be considered living constructs. Would they bleed oil or would random cogs and springs fall out. Lol

Hi AJ. Need a bit of advice for tackling a Blue Devil ruling the desert Ruins of Kharab Almawt. Currently do not possess a 2nd AD&D players book for this issue. I souly possess a silver scimatar & no magic users out of 4 party members. Thanx for any advice & have a great New Year.

Seek a merchant for knowledge of where to attain more magic gear and negotiate for the services of some local NPCs for hire.

Problem with an existence whose fought for thousands of years is that their battle experience is measures beyond any mortal (even long lived ones). Hard to justify the PCs matching them in power

Unless your a paladin or cleric. Divine might and intervention.

Just because the realm of Hell is so stringent with it's power doesn't mean the mortal realm is. Add to that the fact that player characters will rarely face down devils they aren't of the appropriate level to challenge and it only makes sense why an experienced adventurer can fight them.
@reidbrown85344 жыл бұрын
Pcs use mob tactics and war crime levels of screwed up ideas to beat down singular devil's into submission. Also that's what makes pcs so damn legendary Is that this group of nobody's just took down that thing by themselves.

Devil's used to fighting as part of a formation with a bunch of other Horned Devils by its side. Suddenly it's alone and being mobbed by a pack of lunatics using the kind of tactics that even Demons stop and question. That said there are a number of adventuring parties that get plugged by a Devil, it's just that there are also a good number of adventurers who are a complete OCP for the Devil and they aren't trained for those.

This isn't dragonball. Training doesn't increase their power but gives them knowledge how to use it.

Devils are just militant bureaucrats. All forms signed, in triplicate, before you even think of making an appointment.

@@HiopX They're more about holding the line than conquest (although there's a lot of competition within the 9 Hells). Maybe that'd be different if they weren't preoccupied with the demons, but as it stands, a lack of drive for conquest is one key aspect in which devils do NOT resemble that group.
