A Grung monk would be a pretty cool concept. Dishing out unarmed attacks to apply poison via skin contact. Imagine an entire tribe of Grung monks all trained to be Poison Fists (Oriental Adventures Prestige class), bobbing from tree to tree throwing poisoned darts and shuriken, doing stunning fist attacks that potently envenom enemies.

There's actually a bit of lore around the Grung in the forgotten realms for the Tomb of Annihilation Book. Their deity in the Forgotten Realms (I can't remember her name for the life of me) is actually dead and is one of the 9 gods imprisoned within the Tomb of the Nine Gods. There is also a side quest involving them in that module where the party is tasked with helping a grung chieftain fool his people into believing that he is marrying their god.

Grung’s water dependency could be solved if the Grung or another party member has access to Shape Water and uses it to animate the water and encase the Grung’s body in a little bubble or suit of water while it rests or throughout the day.

My grung character, p'Neeph, is actually Chaotic Neutral in alignment, after maturing Chaotic Evil. My character was basically bombarded by visions of the Abyss for his entire time as a tadpole, and views the Abyss as the ultimate and inevitable victor in the constant struggle between Law and Chaos. Not to mention he has actually said "I have seen the other side of mortal-kind. Rampant slaughter. Unending brutality. Pointless debauchery. I have seen the Abyss. And I find it... beautiful."

A way that I would explain the gold grung poison in such a way that it makes more sense, would be the poison is a strong psychedelic hallucinogen that induces a euphoria in the sufferer while they are in the presence of grung/listening to the grung language. So to keep that high going, one would do anything; Including follow orders.

I came into this video expecting to need to provide the historical lore for grung, who debuted as savage, fanged, cannibalistic, xenophobic toadmen in the Greyhawk setting in 2nd edition, fell off the radar, and were then drastically reinvented for 5th edition. Color me amazed and pleasantly surprised by the director actually knowing about the true history of the grung already and incorporating it into the video! Well done!

Yes! More frogs! I was thinking of making a Gold Grung warlock of ygorl that found a way to extract slaadi control gems and used slaad as slaves .Maybe they could even be a wild magic sorcerer. Maybe this grung could be a prophecised rainbow or black grung? Maybe this grung will start an empire that's a threat to humanoid civilization using an army of grung, slaad, and bullywugs. Perhaps the heroes might take away his control gem and the grung's blue slaad bodyguards infect him with chaos phage? Perhaps this villainous warlord will reemerge as a green salad? Maybe he'll uncover secret rituals to create banderhobb assassins that he'll send after the players. Maybe this former grung will ascend to the ranks of grey and death slaad and become a true existential threat? Hmmmmmm

Great, another frog-like race. It's ribbitulous! All jokes aside I like the grungs but holy moly there are dozens of frogs in Dnd, even more than spiders or goblinoids. Even kuotoa look like frogs in some images(they're not of course). I guess they're present in many fairytales and myths so that's probably the reason.

I've played in a few long term campaigns and my favorite character I've ever made has been Poca Rana (Spanish for small frog). The campaign was in a wild west setting so I made a rango inspired grung, a spikey desert toad. She was a desert storm herald barbarian/ arcane trickster rogue. I absolutely loved her. We went from 3rd level to 15th level and will be picking up our campaign again in the winter. She was chaotic nuetral and had been from a barbarian tribe in the uninhabited desert before she as a child was kidnapped by elven poachers and sold to a family of sorcerer and kept as a pet by their daughter. When they fell into poverty they abandoned the house and her and she was left to find her way home ie to be a party member. Our dm even gave me some wild grung abilities based on me being am orange grung (the warrior kind) I got their churr ability and their poison ability that makes enimies scared of their allies. That churr ability actually prevented a boss from using its reaction to reanimate after the party oneshotted it. Should see the dm deflate that his undead boss couldn't come back cause it died while stunned. With a single round stun ability

@@That80sGuy1972 Thank you very much for the compliment. Hope you are have a good weekend reading over post from a month ago. lol . .. updates notifications ? From the age of 26 to 29 I was at my local RPG shop like four or five days a week gaming and just talking zhit coming up with game with everybody. Then the factory where I worked at had some gamers, so our DM story telling skills got a real flexing. One game I had everyone pull index cards with pre written PCs for a non combat .. Role .. play D&D game. Everyone starts off in a village tavern and pulls a card, Sam pulls card and says, " I am the tavern owner and bar tender ?! I .. am .. Quark ?! " Me, " I did not write up what their gender or species/race was so if you want to PC a big ear gnome/goblin go a head. " 2.) My problem to creating games is I am to art driven and my short story writing skills were not on par, and my gaming group was just awesome. But I haven't been with them for close to 15 years and covid shut down my area's last gaming shop, then the work hours of everyone. I am still trying to make at least fifty decent looking pictures to post on Bing with one or two page short one shot D&D games. But I don't do 5e cause of book funding, and once again I hit a dead end on my own fast pace game play. So I can only write out for 3.5e. If I spend less time on the comment section, I might have more stuff done. 3.) As for being saga - connected, my grandparents back in the 1980's bought cassette tape books where you listen and read along with the Greek classics and Greek/ Roman histories. Then I got into Wicca as a teenager in the 1990's and went magik/fairy hunting in the library .. no internet at the time, .. all books. Grade school & junior school it was five to seven book reports/essays or else = paddling and grounding. Along with growing up in the country side, collecting a hundred bull frogs or toads was just something to bring to school. Feed them for a month to get them good and big.

Video is about the .. Grungs. 1990's AD&D2ndE source book " Complete Humanoid " hand book guide cover the Grung along with the other Bullyg frog guys. The book had background generic campaign guidelines rules for the small folk such as the little frog men, pixies, mites, and atomies (1 and half foot gnomes/ or forest gnomes). Then the stander humanoid being of goblins, hobgoblings, orcs, lizardmen, and ogres. With this book you could run a generic off hand fairy tale setting game. Other than dealing the neck beard gate keeping trolls placing level and mage class limits on everything. WotC 3rdE fixed that saying goblins can have unlimited sorcerer and wizard class level and create their own wands. There is just the look of wonder in a group of eight year old eyes when they get to play two foot tall gnomes and frog men spell wand battling 3ft goblins and ten tall ogres. Except in this game good dragons are green with gold trim high lights on their scales. At the gaming shop seeing the .. fluming .. eyes and smoke coming off the murder hobos heads as a group of grade school children making non combat rolls to outthink the same goblin ogre lair they lost their 10th-level multiclass PCs in with .. 1st-level rogues. ! The goblin n/pcs were just happy someone manage to get rid of the ogres. Edit: " cough, cough, " with 3rdE rules all you needed to deal with the goblins was 4 ranks in Diplomacy or Bluff.

@@krispalermo8133 I used to have that handbook. I lost it over a decade ago in one of my moves for that year. I played the Hobgoblin Pacifist. I based it on me, a relatively new pacifist. Don't look at me like that. It's a hard walk. I have anger issues and was still seeing my anger management sponsor at the time. I went from being really proud of my ability to hurt people to being downright ashamed of it. Murdok (that hobgoblin) was my fantasy escape character and my DM's favorite player character. Goblins and goblinoids can get fun, deep, and complex as easy as you let them. Oh, and I've been a successful pacifist for about 27 years now. Go me!

I love these guys, my dm actually suggested I’d play one for a brand new campaign, so with a bit a time I made the back story that mine would be a gold grung whose people were attacked by a black dragon. The humans have since captured and tortured me for months because of how we survived. My friends also had great laughs cause I was the comedic relief of our group. Our character arcs were to this day ones I’ll always remember for the five of us went through flaws. But mine actually made them tear up as he told the black dragon himself with his own poison of how much pain he has done and why he refuses to fight it. He wanted only to say to this dragon that you don’t deserve what you have of your to willing to take from so many… I was the distraction for our barbarian that took the monsters head with a natural twenty.. he wasn’t satisfied with vengeance, but rather looked at the ways he once lived his life so lazily with granted ease, only to discover for himself that we all just want to be treated how we always want to be treated as equals.

Watched this video a few weeks back, didn't know if I would ever actually see the little guys. Yesterday my DM rolled them up on a random encounter and we had a little fight. My heartless teammates went through and terminated all of the tadpoles afterwards but my character managed to save a few he now has to try to raise. It was an interesting turn of events.

For Green grung poison. The poisoned creature can’t move except to climb or make standing jumps. If the creature is flying, it can’t take any actions or reactions unless it lands. For Blue grung poison. The poisoned creature must shout loudly or otherwise make a loud noise at the start and end of its turn. For Purple grung poison. The poisoned creature feels a desperate need to soak itself in liquid or mud. It can’t take actions or move except to do so or to reach a body of liquid or mud. For Red grung poison. The poisoned creature must use its action to eat if food is within reach. For Orange grung poison. The poisoned creature is frightened of its allies. For Gold grung poison. The poisoned creature is charmed and can speak Grung. For Rainbow grung poison. The poisoned creature is incapable of any act of violence against another grung, can speak Grung and becomes incapable of seeing another creature as equal to or as worthy as a true grung, this poison can last for 2d4 hours and victims save against it with disadvantage. For Black grung poison. The poisoned creature must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw, taking 10d8 poison damage on a failed save and they now gain the Dying condition, regardless of their current hit point total they must make a death saving throw, unless they can make a subsequent DC 20 Constitution saving throw at the start of their next turn, they will take another 10d8 poison damage and must continue to make death saving throws, if they succeed on the Constitution save, they stop taking further damage, but they have to make the three death saves regardless, and in this instance, the additional damage from the poison does not cause instant failure of those death saves. With the Constitution saves, as per usual, if the victim succeeds, they still take half the 10d8 poison damage, and, to really drive home how extraordinarily toxic this substance is, it will effect creatures that are normally immune to poison. This is in no way official lore, I just thought I would provide something to scare the shit out of your players when you casually describe it to them. While untreated grung skin poison breaks down one minute after exposure to the air, I see no reason why the grung artisans could not alchemically treat extracted poison and store it in little wood or bone pots, so grung could make use of each other's different toxins and this could form the basis of a complex cultural tradition within their tribes. Again, not official lore, but full of fun options. Now, although not mentioned for the forgotten realms grung, the greyhawk grung certainly have teeth and can deliver a nasty bite equal to their dagger attack and also poisonous, but their saliva is less potent than their skin toxin and victims make that constitution saving throw with advantage.

So these guys are only evil because the previous Greyhawk version was evil. You take away the cannibalism and the slavery, as they don't make much sense, and they come across as a group of people that want nothing to do with the world at large and will attack anybody that goes inside their territory, driving them off with poison arrows. Those tree frog people look incredibly weird, you can tell that the tree frog body is not supposed to be arranged in that way. Now I want an attractive, psychic frog race based off of Bulma and the Nemakian frog from Dragon Ball, Tsu from My Hero Academia, and various prehistoric amphibians from before the time of the dinosaurs. Any idea of how to make that happen?

Right now I'm playing a campaign as "Pepe Dankmeme", the Grung chieftain (gold caste). I have the retainer Kermit, the green skinned grung as my follower. My tribe worships Kek, dark lord of mischief. They hold ceremonies where they celebrate "meme magic", where they use illusions to convey key ideas and imagery (literally memes made using minor illusion and other illusion based spells). They are ruled over by the leaders called "chans"; there are four of them, which is why their major clan is known as 4chan. Their country is kekistan, a jungle based country where they play shadilay. All the non-grung are known as normies and they fight against a neighbouring tribe of Lizardmen with the highest caste being a Red lizardmen. Their tribe is known as Reddit, and another of fish people ruled by the leader Tum, who's tribe is Tumblr. I can't wait to see how the campaign plays out. It's been a blast so far. 😁🐸

Personally I don’t like the concept of alignment. To make the point I once played a lawful good paladin who was obsessed with returning the belongings of defeated enemies to their families. “Just because he’s evil doesn’t mean he’s s family is bad, that their inheritance!” Dead adventurers in a dungeon “we should return his belongings to the family and return his body for proper burial” I had taken an oath of poverty.... I enforced it on my party too They objected to my last PC being neutral evil, so I rolled up a new character and arranged for “rocks fall”
@tonyoliver4920
@tonyoliver4920 4 жыл бұрын
Neutral evil characters are always best... to paraphrase you “the dear sees the wolf as evil. The wolf only sees dinner.” If I our PCs are happy looting the dead, that’s grave robbing. Evil Killing hobgoblins because they protect tribal territory. Evil Most PCs are neutral evil So playing a neutral evil character leave so much room for genuine roll playing, it’s fun, especially when you are a cleric and point out the evil the other PCs are doing. Especially if your clerical goal is to convert others.
