Plot twist of AJs youtube channel is his personal journal and he's a great mage/scholar who is just cataloging all of the creatures in the multiverse and every video is just a recording of a summary of his findings and when he remakes a video of creature is just him returning and updating his older findings and researching deeper to change some of the old misinformation he could have put in his research.

Ah man, brings me back to the days of my child hood where my late twin brother and I used to loom over our father's shoulders every time he played Dark Sun: Shattered Lands. Those sneaky Psurlons and that noise which always reminded me of a weird sneeze scouring a long abandoned and haunted ruin that was buried for centuries under the ever shifting sands of Athas. I still hear that noise, and I'm glad they still remain with D&D.

@johngleeman83473 жыл бұрын
Whenever I flip through any bestiaries that include them, I admit the image of the grotesque psurlon, which has the dichotomy of a mostly expressionless inhuman face but with a vaguely humanoid body type, always draws my attention. It's good to know that they can provide the third corner of a triangle of dominance between three powerhouse psionic empires in the astral plane. The Rule of Three proves to be a reliable constant in the Multiverse. I'm not sure how their society compares to the illithids and gith. They are such an ancient race, but also less ostentatious as the other two races? They have a clear cultural and political goal, which is great. I can only imagine if they succeeded in forming a single psychic gestalt of thousands of psurlons it would be as powerful as a deity. Definitely something that nobody wants. You could even have the rare and droll situation of the flayers and gith joining forces when their hated mutual enemy gets dangerously close to their apotheosis.

I like to think of psionics for the most part as being a way for a being to bypass the necessity for spells. Like, some casters draw power from an external source, others through learning to manipulate ambient magic, and others drawing it from an internal source, though it's more of a spectrum than categories. You could almost view a Sorcerer or Warlock that has developed innate spellcasting as the half way point between a Wizard and a Mystic/Psionicist

@@AJPickett I guess I was always looking for a way to fix the Astromundi setting, since it was such a beautiful mess. Not only did the background of the race and setting seem to kind of mesh, but by having the psurlons replace mind flayers there, it would give the players a bit more chance against them. I keep looking for one that a humanoid could possibly converse with without serious harm to the body or mind, yet I haven't found a truly suitable one yet. Even if "peaceful" contact could be achieved, I'm starting to realize that there are no real safe candidates as they all seek to corrupt that which is not of their plane of existence in some way. Perhaps I can write a scenario where there is just ONE slightly passive Psurlon who wishes to share it's knowledge of the Far Realm in exchange for something my PC has.
