I'm a neuro, and this is common with many viruses & is neurological. It's likely that you'll heal in time. To facilitate this, try to reduce all sources of inflammation in the body to aid in healing, even reducing stress as much as possible. Supplement with fish oil (up to several grams per day, assuming you're healthy) which is neuro-protective. Consider adding baby aspirin (again, assuming it's fine with your doctor). Exercise 30 min per day/ 3 hours per week even if it's just walking. REFRAIN FROM DIETING and make sure you eat at least 50 grams of fat per day, ideally from sources like fatty fish/ salmon, olive oil, etc., as this is vital for healing neuro damage. Perhaps most importantly, maintain a positive attitude and practice your form of spirituality, because the mind-body-spirit connection has been shown to have very real impact on outcomes in neuroscience. So, yes, I'm advising you to meditate, pray, sing, do what you love

It took me a year of rehab to re-learn how to walk and many years of coming to terms with just how close I came to losing my life, it was about 5-6 years before I realized that my sense of smell was returning, it’s fully back now, but sometimes I wonder whether what I’m smelling is the right smell, I don’t know if that makes sense, but that is my reality.

If it's any reassurance, none of us ever knows if what we smell is "correct" or exactly the same as what "everyone else" smells. I don’t know how old you are, but with the phones that had voice recognition in the beginning, we had to actually set up our phone to recognize our voices or how we talk, to help it understand us when using talk to txt or whatever. Now the phones just automatically know what we’re saying. How do you think that happened? Well I’m pretty sure that we are being listened to so they have a vast amount of ways of saying each word. Our phones are basically a way to see, and hear anyone they want. And people who have “smart” homes are stupid. ANYONE can hack into your home and watch and listen in on you. People with camera and sound baby monitors hooked to their phones have reported hearing voices talking to their babies when they aren’t in the room. My niece had this happen with her daughter. It’s a crazy world with the illusion of freedom. But that “freedom” is very quickly disappearing.

For anyone like me dealing with parasmia, I’ve found it helpful to just grab a full meal protein shake mix and have that for my breakfast - it has all the nutrients you need to get going and stay healthy, reduces having to think about what you’re going to eat, and tastes good (most have a sweet/vanilla taste). Then for lunch I’ll make or buy a salad with lots of veggies and sometimes I’ll toss some sauteed, seasoned chicken on it. Then dinner is where I make decisions… that way you’re not having to constantly use all this brain power on your meals every day. Firstly, THANK YOU for covering this topic. Honestly. I just cried whilst watching this because this is what I’ve been suffering with. When I started smelling this awful rotting/gas/chemical smell I looked into it, and, found a Facebook group called “covid-19 post smell and taste disorders” and even tho I felt sorry for everyone, it was also a sense of reassurance that I wasn’t going crazy, and other people understood me. Somebody shared this video in that group, and, to actually hear that scientists are taking this seriously and researching into it has made me feel like there is hope. It is super worrying that this may be my new reality for the rest of my life, and, if it is I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m not coping very well with this rancid odour everywhere all the time. Background: caught covid/flu in August 2021 was really poorly for 3 weeks taking it to September. I was bed bound, wasn’t eating, there was severe burning in my nose, lost my smell and taste and all flu symptoms. I then recovered and my smell/taste came back within a couple of weeks from recovery, mid September to the end of September everything was fine, eating and drinking like normal, still felt fatigue and brain fog but was on the mend and then from the start of October the burning in my nose became so severe again I rang the doctors worried I may have had a post covid sinus infection, they put me on a 7 day antibiotics course. I completed it but the burning sensation was still there. That’s when I knew something wasn’t right. That’s when I started to smell rotting meat. I made a chicken casserole and I was adamant the meat was spoiled but no one else could smell the same thing as me. Since then, everything has smelt and tasted the same. Eggs smell and taste like I’m eating pure gasoline. Perfumes smell like dead bodies. Meat, just smells rotten. Any food that’s being heated and cooked smells like gas. Any cleaning products smell vile. Honestly, I can’t explain how hard this is. I’m hoping so much that there is a cure. I heard that cancer patients when undergoing chemotherapy suffer with the same problem because their receptors become damaged, then I started wondering ok the virus obviously does this to our receptors and then I started thinking about the PCR tests - could they have done this? Would we ever be told if the PCR has done this? Please can anybody suggest anything which may help.

@@terripebsworth9623 You're a charlatan. Parasmia is a serious condition that is hard to treat, if you watch the video the receptors in the nose just don't care about your zinc as some of those techniques have been tried to little to no success. For instance, some people who had car accident or cancer suffer from parasmia, and last time I've checked car accidents don't create zinc deficiency. Stop that nonsense, the false hope and disinformation, people should only listen to their doctors not YT "experts". People are desperate and might endanger themselves with your nonsense. Zinc has not cured covid as crazies were claiming and it certainly doesn't cure Parasmia as it's been studied for decades. And I'm sure people have tried it all for decades. Knowing all the different covid related symptoms people suffer from around the world, there's certainly nothing "easy" about people suffering and there's no one-size-fits-all treatments as we're still learning about long-haul covid. I bet if someone tells you "Since I got covid I can't walk long distances", you'll tell them to take zinc...just stop. The very first day we knew we were sick, then got tested to make sure or not if we were positive. Our Parosmia began, with a vengeance. Even before fevers or dry cough. The chemical smell would even wake me up at night. For months we smelled only something we described as burning toxic chemicals. As if there had been a freight car in town derailed and burning chemicals into the atmosphere, as if we lived next door to the burning. It was 24/7 and we took Ivermectin immediately. I feel most of my smell is back, except for scented candles, perfumes etc. which is ok, I have a parrot and can’t have scented candles or the like around here anyway. Same here. I've always had an extremely sensitive sense of smell, now that it has come back from anosmia, my sense of smell is still muted. I felt like the cells at the top of my sinuses where my olfactory bulb is, became super dry. Like it didn't produce normal mucus, still doesn't totally. I think that might have something to do with why I can't smell as much as normal yet. Did you have a similar experience of dryness around where your olfactory bulb sits? And do you still?

I was very ill with every symptom of Covid back in December 2019. Nobody was talking about it then. I thought it was a medium severity flu...lasted nine days, not pleasant. But then a few days later I lost all smell and taste. I ground some fresh cinnamon and could not smell it at all. I asked my dad to smell it and it blew him away so it was not old sticks. It is now August 2021, nearly two years later. I have some smell and taste, but some things don't taste at all and others are way off. Dr Pepper soda for example, tastes like some sort of cleaner. Pepsi tastes pretty normal, and coke has nearly no taste at all. I do taste sweet, salt and spicy....but cant differentiate which particular flavor it is in most cases...even chocolate. I cant taste meat usually, then sometimes I can. I completely stopped eating chicken, I cant taste it. And everywhere there is a strange smell I cannot identify as ever having experienced. It comes and goes, in the same space with no source or anything cooking or anything. Fortunately its not bad, its just annoying and overpowers everything. I cant smell garlic or peppermint oil at all....yet this smell is something like peppermint , allspice and the smell of moldy citrus. I find it depressing. I don't eat much anymore either...not like I used to because I don't get an appetite. Then sometimes it all comes on and I can taste and smell nearly normal, so perhaps after all this time its healing. Im glad to find others experiencing similar phenomena. I do think it will go away completely some time...

@scarlet80783 жыл бұрын
Hi, I haven't personally recovered from it, but I'm a neuro and we tend to see a similar phenomenon with other viruses and even pandemics throughout history. This is basically a form of neurosensory damage. Like most neurological damage, it can heal over time. The rate and extent of healing varies greatly and depends on factors such as your general health, inflammatory markers, etc. While I encourage you to contact your own specialist, I can give general tips that may help everyone in this situation. To facilitate healing, a patient should try to reduce every source of inflammation, lower stress, get 7-8hr of sleep each night, and maintain biorhythm by going to sleep at the same time ideally before midnight. You should exercise 30 min/ day or 3 hours per week. Take baby aspirin and supplement several grams of fish oil (assuming it's fine with your doctor). DO NOT DIET or restrict calories unless you are morbidly obese and are following medical advice, because the body needs sufficient nutrients to heal. Make sure you get at least 50 grams of fat per day ideally from sources like salmon, olive oil, avocado, etc. Try to eat mostly whole/ unprocessed foods, although I understand it's expensive. Consider going to local farms to get fresh produce in bulk if that's feasible for you. Perhaps most importantly, try to maintain a positive attitude and mind-body-spirit connection, practicing meditation, prayer or other form of spirituality. This has very real impact on outcomes in neuroscience. Keep a journal at least weekly to document your progress. Good luck & God bless.

You should also watch the videos on the medcram Chanel, the doctor explained how a lot of people have benefited from essential oil therapy. I had these exact symptoms at the beginning of 2015. I was in despair for a few months with the symptoms described in the video, and can relate to everything they say. I saw an ENT after about 5 months from the onset of the problem. He told me that that year he had seen quite a few people with that problem, which he said was caused by a cold virus that was circulating that year. He told me that the virus had wiped out my olfactory nerves and that they would regenerate, but it would take time - I had to be patient. What I was experiencing was the nerves regrowing, but misfiring, like it says in the video. After about a year, my sense of smell was almost back to normal. A few scents took longer to recover - onions and bananas for me were the last to come back, but they did. Please hang in if you are suffering from this; there is hope. To keep my sanity, I periodically throughout the day would sniff things that had a strong scent, like soaps, eucalyptus, things like that to prove to myself that I could still smell different things. Looking back, maybe that did help to retrain my sense of smell.

Same. I also puke smelling my own sweat. I smell like rotten eggs. I can't eat onion, garlic, eggs and potato. I just can't eat anything as I am vegitarian and my parents don't really get my condition. I cry as I am hungry but no food suits my taste. It started it August and going as it is. What to do? @@refrigerated139 I am experiencing the same thing for the past 3 months. I can't stand the smell of meat rice egg or even my own sweat odor for Gods sake:( If I don't for more than 6-7 hours I would most probably vomit. I take pills before every main meal otherwise I would bring the food up. I am even starting to hate the taste of water which is absurd in any sense!

I am 17 years old and have had this for three months now. I cry almost every day and I lost around 15 pounds already. When I got covid, I told myself that I wanted to begin cooking for my family because I find culinary art so fascinating, but when I came out, i was so disappointed because I could no longer enjoy food. My family and friends know about this, but none of them really understand how hard and depressing this is. Im just so hungry. My grandparents are like "Force yourself to eat just force it!" But I literally cant, its like eating a dead body and they just cant understand. I feel like I lost apart of my creative force without my smell and taste and I cry a lot because Im so afraid i will never be able to eat the same again. I am really sad because of this

I had this for a couple weeks when I had covid. All food smelled and tasted unbearable, like rotting death and sewage. I’ve had parosmia for over a year and a half now. I think I’m finally past the depression phase. Cooking is a challenge because since you can’t taste any flavor, you have to play the guessing game with seasoning and hope your family likes it.

Thank you for making this video! My fiance and I have been dealing with it for almost a year, I got it first when I had a temporary crown put in and I had to take it out because the glue they used tasted like rotting garbage. He got it a few weeks later and it progressed really quick. One night we went through our fridge and threw almost everything away because we couldn't even deal with opening the door. We quickly figured out the only things that we could eat were turkey sandwiches, and some fruits. Eventually we got so angry with it that we just started eating everything again and kind of meditating on the flavors and forced our senses to fix themselves. The weirdest part for me was that the taste changed every 3 or 4 months, first it was burnt rotting garbage, then it was like a burnt smelly foot and BO smell, now it's burnt farts. There are still a few things that smell and taste like it but for the most part we're so much better.
@lunarcalendar3683 жыл бұрын
Well it's been almost two week since I've recovered. I still can't smell anything. Sense of taste has returned to an extent. But smell is a no show. I am simply hoping that it will return. These few days I've realised how important smell and taste are. You don't know Your food is burning, when you forgotten to turn off the stove, because you can't smell it. You don't know when your cat has vomited until you step and see it with your eyes as you can't smell the putrid vomit either. These are just the tip of the ice berg.

Don't worry too much. It took me about a month to get my smell back. I suggest you work on your sense of smell like a lot every day just take anything you got like fruits, anything. I have a vicks inhaler and it smelled funny for a few weeks like a damp cupboard (i know, weird) but kept on going and I can finally smell the menthol in it. Good luck.

If anything, it ha made my smell better. But my brain isn't the same as these ones. All these tests and studies don't include neurodiverse individuals, I got covid, lost smell, and about 5 days later it got better. It was pretty wild I couldn't smell my deodorant bar, and then boom I could smell. I have also learned that hienz ketchup tastes always strange when I'm sick, it's become my go to, if I feel I'm getting sick, eat a little ketchup, if it tastes sour and off, I'm sick, if not, all good. I don't smell cigarettes, I smoke, so it won't bother me, also everything smells a little off.
