While I like this match a lot, in my opinion, the best singles match of Taue's career is the Champions' Carnival 1995 Final.

95-96 was a awesome "miracle run" by taue, the matches in singles and tag he was putting on against Williams, Kobashi, Misawa, Akiyama, Kawada, etc. Baba was a genius booker, Taue is rightly considered the weaker of the 4 pillars yet shined from the champions carnival in 95 all the way into 1996.
Steve Williams had a great match with somebody who i am not even remotely a fan of (Baba Jr.),he was such a excellent wrestler and an utter beast

I wouldn't say Taue was slow but he was always a tad awkward. Still, great worker, very underated. I'm glad he won he the Triple Crown and GHC titles even if both were happy accidents (Kawada was supposed to win in 1996 but he pissed Baba off and Rikio bombed as champ so they had to give it someone else and who better than Taue?).

While I would have loved for him to win more singles titles, I dunno where his reigns would have fitted in. There was no way they could book him to beat Vader in that 1999 match (even Kawada didn't beat Vader, only Kobashi and Misawa did IIRC), it would have been difficult to have him beat Kobashi in 1998 so soon after Kobashi dethroned Kawada and it would have been silly to have him beat Misawa in 1997 only a year or so after doing it in 1996 without derailing the build to the 1998 Dome match between Kawada & Misawa. By the time we get to late 1999 Akiyama would have been a more important person to put the belt on, and really, they fucked Akiyama good having him lose to Misawa in three big singles matches in the space of a year (CC Final 1997, Triple Crown match in 1997 and the CC Final 1998). By the time he won the belt in NOAH he was pretty old and they were just about to start pushing the newer generation of guys so I don't think he could have won again unless it was a very short novelty run like Nakanishi's IWGP reign. Also, despite being a taller, stockier guy than Kobashi I think everyone knew that of the two of them, Kobashi was the power man, not Taue. He's got to be one of the only heavyweight wrestlers with arms skinnier than mine! Still, I think a lot of internet fans are more aware of Taue these days and he gets a lot of love that maybe he didn't get back in the days of tape trading.

I agree, Taue lacked a certain je ne sais quoi in general, but this match was a thriller.
