This song describes my best friend and I perfectly! We both struggle with severe mental health issues- I with anxiety, and her with depression. We were both social outcasts before we found one another... everyone else's life seemed to be so perfect and ordinary compared to ours. This song makes me so happy and so sad. Because, in a sense, all we aspire to be is understood. And when you think of something or feel something so incredibly outrageous and outlandish that you’re sure that absolutely nobody will understand you, the best thing to hear is “I know, right?” So suddenly the world doesn’t feel so big and angry anymore. this song is unironically such a good allegory for neurodivergent people. like, "they tell us to be different, but no one told me i could go too far" is THE most relatable line in any song ever. it's always been so hard for me, someone with adhd, to feel like i belong anywhere, because my brain literally works differently. it's jot that i'm "quirky and unique", it's that i, and neurodivergent people in general, are _fundamentally_ different. hence, "i'm not sick, just kinda different". at first, i thought everyone was like me, but i slowly realized that that's not the case- and i felt so, so alone. it's the worst thing i've ever felt. i don't think anything could come close. and when we finally meet someone that's like us, we think, "wow, maybe i'm not crazy," or, "you're like me, you're crazy too. we can be crazy together" and it's the best feeling in the _world._ I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS DID THIS INTENTIONALLY OR NOT BUT IT's ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS BECAUSE OF IT AND I COULD NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH ❤️❤️❤️

I relate to this song right now more than any song from AJR I've heard yet. I'm sure one could take different parts of these lyrics in different ways, but the following verse to me really speaks about someone finding a group who shares their idealogy, and this individual has up until this point been surrounded by a completely different idealogy. Seeing how important empathy, truth, and equality are in AJR's lyrics I wouldn't be surprised if I knew the shared feelings and views.
