These directions worked 7-2020 the very best. I even unmounted the other 23 disks that I saw in my terminal listing I chose restart with command R and it feels like it’s going to factory reset. Notices we had to date this to help another person. Thanks!! Thanks 🙏

Make sure you are referring to the right disk. For me, "disk2" was the right disk referring to my external hard drive. "diskutil unmountDisk force disk2" This command worked for me. Before that I was getting the at least one volume could not be unmounted error.

After I did the force reset, my computer completely shut off and I thought that I was doomed but when I went back in and did a last Hail Mary to erase my disk it WORKED! And I was able to reinstall. Hey everyone, just wanted to comment that when I did this I got the Kernal Panic screen and Mac was in a restart loop...I turned off the power and restarted with Command R and I was able to restart the entire process. However, this video did help me get the drive unmounted in the end.

When I pressed 'return' after typing the last line, my computer reset and went into a repeating failed boot cycle, before settling on a 'No entry' sign of a circle with line through it, in the middle of the screen. I pressed and held the power button to turn the Mac off, and then re-botted pressing Command and R to access the utilities screen. This time I was able to erase the disk and so, don't panic if this happens to you - the process described is successful, but you may not get such a smooth ride as the video maker.

For those who couldn't get it to work likely sudo doesn't exist or whatever, here's my solution install the os on a flash drive and then set up it may take a lot longer than normal just because it's off a flash drive Once you do that and get into marcos go into disk utility in the actual macos not the recover screen and try formatting the drive, hope that helps as it did for me!

I had the same problem and followed the steps, although in the end I had to erase the disk from the terminal. It has been a whole day and it is still in the erasing process. Will it take longer? Or is there a possibility that it has frozen?

cara, preciso de sua ajuda, fiz pelo terminal e ele fala "Forced unmount of disk0 failed: at least one volume could not be unmounted". N sei pq ele n desmontou pelo terminal, ja tentei pelo modo normal (indo no utilitário de disco) e tbm n desmonta... Oq eu posso fazer??? Obs: Ele fez isso sozinho, quando liga ele n sai da tela de inicialização, aparece uma barra de loading embaixo do logo da apple e quando ela termina de carregar o mac desliga...

Olá. Vc não tem dados neste disco né? Se não tiver, vc pode colocar ele em uma máquina com windows e fazer uma formatação por lá, deixando em fat32. Depois volte ao mac e tente novamente.
