Prof. Akínwùmí Ìsọ̀lá's book, 'O le ku', was one of the recommended texts in my junior secondary school. I was already enthused with the man, through this book, before I discovered other titles. Interestingly, two of the characters in the book answer my name - 'Dotun, my first name and 'Lola, my middle name. It brought such pride at that early age. It's important that Yoruba literary texts be strongly emphasized in primary and secondary education, and culture is engaged in governance and policymaking. Prof. Akínwùmí Ìsọ̀lá lives on!

Power of partnerships. The humility in recognizing that he needed someone who could tell stories in pictures and that did not in any way made him less of a Professor nor less a veteran. Rest on, sir. #Collaboration #NotCompetition

Rest on Pa Akinwunmi Ishola. It’s such a pity that we’ve totally lost our cultural heritage to greed and thirst for westernization. (Development and culture are complimentary ). Thank you uncle TK for this amazing tribute.

What many don't know is that culture can be lost. If no conscientious effort is made to entrench it and enforce its use on the succeeding generation, in no distant time, it will be eroded. Thank God for the imperishable works left behind by Late Professor Akinwumi Ishola. God bless his soul!

As these Legends (Prof. Akinwumi Orojide Isola, Pa Adebayo Faleti, etc) make their exit from this world, I am afraid their wealth of knowledge of the culture rolls away with them into eternity. Uncle Tee, is there a plan for knowledge transfer to the younger generation through mentoring programs?
@tkelani6 жыл бұрын
Firstly, Yoruba parents are ignorant about the importance of indigenous language over a foreign one. You need language first before you could learn and appreciate our culture. The parents must do their part but I and others shall continue to mentor young ones and make them proud of their identity

@@tkelani These, as you've mentioned, sir, as well as systematic reintroduction of this knowledge in the school system will go a long way in achieving this much needed preservation. Therefore, the policy makers (a.k.a. government) have a part too, but they're, sadly, too distracted at the moment. Sigh.
