When they were making ‘Made Men’ and all those other collabs, Drake was already bigger than him at that point, that would’ve been after Thank Me Later dropped. TML sold 445K first week. Ross dropped Teflon Don the same year and sold less than half of that at 176K. I understand Ross wants to make it seem like he put him on but that’s just not the case. i think the strategy with the algorithms is less about keeping taylor, drake etc etc on top and more about making artists NEED labels again. for so many years labels could do what they do to artists bc it was impossible to pop without them. they controlled the radio, the charts, the grammies, the djs, it was impossible for an artist to be heard by the masses without a level to support them. then the internet changed all that, youtube, soundcloud, instagram, tik tok they all made it possible for artists to get buzz without a label and that created the joyner lucas’ and the russ’ that were able to build such a strong fan base that they didn’t need labels. they only signed distribution deals for help to publish their work and those deals are only for sales. label gets no show money, endorsement money, no royalties or residuals. just a small cut of sales. so if the label goes to these internet platforms and says we’re gonna sign a deal where you only play artists signed to labels first and make it so that people only hear them. spotify, tik tok, ig, youtube they all lose the power they had and the artist are back in a situation where if they want to pop they need a label. so we’re right back to labels signing artists to extortion deals with a 5x the value of their deal life insurance policy. labels want their control back, they’re starting to not matter. to throw in a few side thoughts even though this is longest youtube comment i’ve ever made by about 99%: dissing drake the rapper will not get drake outta here. drakes massive success does not come from the rap community. most of the hip hop community clowns drake and has been for years. to get drake outta here you would have to turn his female fan base against him. and calling him a dead beat dad didn’t make a dent. all the womanizer, groomer what have you allegations have done nothing. so i think the females aren’t gonna go anywhere no matter how many rappers call him soft.
