I agree 100%. This era of turntables with DD motors and heavy well built plinth and platters are peak quality in my opinion. Toshiba had a line up very similar in looks and quality. People chase the brand names. I still love a technics quartz lock q3, 5300 etc...but would be happy with the akai.

Really good to shine light on the hidden giant of vintage turntables. Even with vinyl returning to popular use Akai turntables are still available at reasonable price as folks bid crazy prices for Technics etc, etc. Thanks for this video.

I got an Akai AP-100C from a pawn shop a year or so ago, talked them down from $170 to $100 cash out the door (in Canadian loonies). Although the 100C is not as fully featured and is only semi-automatic with belt drive, it is still so good I don't think I am ever going to upgrade unless I run into an irreparable issue with mine. I got a new belt and a new cartridge (AT-VM95EM) and it just sounds amazing and has only the features I want with none that I don't need. Love Akai turntables and I'm so glad I snatched this one up before someone else who wouldn't appreciate it did!

I have exact same model, it was in storage for about 30yrs, still works great. Changed the cartridge with a Audio Technica AT-VM95 C/H.

awesome, you've convinced to buy this as my first turn table between the technics 1200, audio technica lp 120, and this turn table you've shown me. I'm heavily surprised at how cheap this is sold, whci is good since I want to start a vintage stereo set up

Hi Vintage hound - I have an AKAI AP-206-C it looks the same as yours but does not have the repeat/album size - where they are on yours mine has Start/Cut and then Stylus up and down.. I have mine matched with the AKAI AM2800 (AMP), AKAI - AT2450 (Tuner), AKAI DT-100 (Digital timer), AKAI GXC-710D (Cassette player), and last but not least - AKAI GX636 Reel to Reel.- as pet the turn table - the kit is awesome - just top quality (underrated kit) for the 70s.. Hope its still going well for you.

Hi there, I recently bought a set of Akai components including GXC -704D tape deck , AA1150 amplifier and AP 207 turntable, all in great condition and sound amazing, except the turntable needle needs replacing I think as the sound is a bit distorted...can you tell me where I could .get a replacement needle/stylus? Any help appreciated.

I would go with a denon Mc cartridge like a DL110 thay sound very good. And won't brake the bank you can find them for around $170 on eBay money well spent there a high output moving coil cartridge you will be very pleased

is that a stock needle? which needles can be used?

I would imagine any needle that fits the 1/2 inch headshell. So alot of Cart and Needle choices.

What's the problems with the turntable? I have an AP 307 just fixed mine, I'm no technician but good at repairing electronics
