It's me, same guy, 11 years later. That equipment has been severely, and I mean severely upgraded since then. I got rid of all Direct Drive Akais as they all start vibrating. Sold my GX-630D that I owned since 14 last, a couple of months ago. End of an era! I could still work that 635D blind though, haha.

AKAI is quality i still use my GXC-46 Stereo Cassette Recorder from the seventies, my AJ-520 FL Stereo Portable Radio GXC Cassette player from the eighties. And the Double Stereo Automatic Reverse GX-W45 cassettedeck from the nineties. They are all excellent & indestructible so i know what kind of quality your AKAI GX-635D is !!!

Could never find one that worked correctly . I have had 747s and other 6## machines but the 635 has always had relay problems or bad connection for me . Too bad though , I have always liked its handsome looks.

I remember my Akai GX-4000XD I used to make a lot of strange music and sound effects with it. A lot of strange echo effects via the sound on sound. The primary issue I had with was when I wen to to the lower speed to the higher one, The original sprocket was not aligned to play in tune. I sound a sprocket off an old Sony portable Reel to reel and used that one. Made a lot of double speed sound effects with that one. Bouncing and stacking from one machine to another
