Awesome review! I just ordered the MPK261 which will be delivered next week. I'll post a finger drumming video using the unit as well.

Very well rounded and real world review.. nice comparison to the old model. Thanks for sharing. Yeah keys should be the cornerstone of the unit.. the quality, especially if you come from the world of real analog synths and pianos. Ahh the wonderful piano... and the feeling of those ivorys.

9 years late ! But my question is, can you set the drum pads for "NO VELOCITY" ? Maybe that function called "FULL LEVEL" is that? Thanks !!

Is it plastic, metal, aluminum. Does it use batteries ? Is there a memory card, sd, slot what gear do we get with it as in software?

Can you play/trigger soft synths and hardware modules connected to the physical MIDI port at the same time? ie sylenth on FL Studio track 1, moog phatty on track 2, etc... How easy is it to change current MIDI channel to correspond to separate soft synths or modules? Or do you even have to change MIDI channels on this MPK249?

Thank you for putting this video up. I've been running back and forth on looking for a keyboard to use, I think this is going to be the one for me to put some money down on. I was about to consider the Komplete Kontrol S Series, but realized my laptop specs are too old for it. Looks like the MPK249 will work just fine, and comes with some extra goodies too.

Great review thanks! I have the akai mpk49 but i had issues with it! I use it with reason 5 daw but everytime when i played an instrument it seems like the faders are ghosting. It is verry annoying and i heard it could be dust... I cleaned it with contact spray but it fixed nothing! So im i think i'm buying the akai mpk249 now brand new! I think it will be a great buy

Hello, my friend. Thankx great review. Did you produced any music that the public can listen to, and if so, where? I was wondering and this might sound dumb, im new to midi and stuff. But, if there a way to import audio track that I creates to this keyboard ? full audio Wave tracks,( like a song playing from a MP3 player). I know those unit called sequencer that can do. But when i play live, I cant have a laptop with me. I Just need a pad like the one on MPK and stop/play the track. thank you

Mmmmm...it comes with a full version of Hybrid 3 too? I was looking at other controllers in that $200-$250 range because I didn’t wasn’t to spend more than that on a controller. But I’ve been debating on an all-around plugin synth including, Hybrid 3, Big Fish Audio Urban Workstation, Nexus2, Sample Tank, and some others. But with Hybrid 3 and other software included with this it just jumped into the controller mix. Plus I'm an MPC2kxl so having some of that functionality still available is sweet. Especially the pressure sensitivity on the pads. That is one of the most underrated and possibly hidden features of the 2kxl. That cuts out a lot of velocity editing that I would have to do inside of a software sequencer. Much Love with this review homie. I’ll keep checking for on other reviews.

Nice review. I'm curious what was your main decision to buy the MPK249 when you already have a fully functional MPK49. (I see we both own the Korg MS2000R, Minibrute & Moog Slim Phatty!) (-: And what about your comment about "sorry Akai, I'm sending this back to you" at 4:18 ? What's that about? Thanks
@Bboytechreport10 жыл бұрын
Ahhh well yea I own the mpk49 but the mpk249 was sent to me for review and it has to go back after the review. Not that I don't dig it because I really do but yea it was sent to me for review purposes. It was the perfect opportunity to compare the two during the review. Nice sounds like u got some nice synths if I do say so myself :)

They make you send them back after reviewing them? I guess it makes sense but damn that's lame as hell. I hope you got one though in the end cause they really are miles better than the original one.

DOES THE 249 HAVE A SEQUENCER ON IT BCUZ I HEARD THE OLD MPKS DONT HAVE THE MPC 2000 ETC. SEQUENCER AND YOU HAVE TO SEQUENCE IN YOU DAW. AGAIN IS THERE A SEQUENCER IN THE 249?
@Kingjames3139 жыл бұрын
No, it's a midi controller, midi controllers do not sequence just control DAWs

Question, Do you know if the 249 works with the renaissance software?
@Bboytechreport10 жыл бұрын
I don't know for sure but my best guess considering MPC software was made as a tightly integrated piece with the ren or studio in mind so I don't think so but I have not tried

Got an MPK49 and I'm sick of it. Pads are rubbish, knobs send data when your not touching them, half the buttons don't work without a serious whack! Put me off AKAI products. This looks a lot better but I'm not sure if I'd got for another AKAI controller after the MPK49.
