We even see Akainu look over as Aokiji took to fight Luffy instead of him. He even hints to it, "I owed a favor to your Grandfather", which was paid, saving his life from Akainu.

Moonwalk and Shave techniques are useful for any kind of fighters in Navy. Finger pistol and tempest kick are not suited for Vice admirals as most of them use sword. Paper art and Iron Body is useless because there are techniques which are far improve version of them if you know you know.

Garp has refused promotion to Admiral on multiple occasions. Even now as an old guy he’s probably stronger than any of the current Admirals. Sengoku is the only one on the Marine side who I think is his equal at this point. Being an Admiral puts you directly at the command of the Celestial Dragons and Garp hates them, so he refuses to be put in that position.

I think most people at this point don't realize how much of a beast Garp really is. At this point in the story he's most likely stronger than Whitebeard because of Whitebeard being as sick as he is. Even so, if Whitebeard and Garp were both in their prime Garp could absolutely go toe to toe with him no problem at all. If Garp was actually seriously taking part then the war would most likely already be over. That's how insane he is. In this war he's caught between his duty and what he sees as the future of the world and his selfish desire for Ace to be saved. I wouldn't want to be standing in Garp's shoes right now.

Due to his old age, Whitebeard cannot use Haki during the war. Therefore, Whitebeard's attack did not injure Aokiji. Diamond Jozu used Haki in the shoulder attack, which caused Aokiji to be injured. If Wihebeard could use Haki, we would be watching a completely different war.

Jack, you are constantly underestimating Garp and Sengoku. Both are Admiral level, if not more. The only reason Garp is not an Admiral is because he doesn't want to be, and Sengoku is an ex-Admiral who has risen beyond that position to become the Fleet Admiral. If it had not been Garp, Sengoku would have stopped Marco. Our pineapple head was never getting to Ace, no matter what. The Navy is so strong in this battle that Sengoku was trying/hoping to win the war unscathed! That's how outmatched the pirates are!

Whitebeard standing firm by the ships for so long makes a lot more sense now doesn't it? He was bluffing that he was there to protect the Moby Dick and the copy ships as their means of escape. The "Trump Card" (or a Bishop in chess terms) was a version with paddles on it so they could make an escape that wasn't reliant on the winds once they saved Ace. It just so happens Whitebeard needed to call in his bishop early because Sengoku setup a really good wall of chess pieces Whitebeard wasn't prepared for
