I just finished eating my akara which I made using your recipe. This is my 2nd attempt and I nailed it! My 1st attempt was about 8yrs ago and it was a mess! Since then, I haven't been confident to try it again. To be honest, I was going to make this last weekend using another recipe I saw on KZbin, but instead I made moimoi, and moved the akara to this weekend. God probably wanted me to find this recipe...lol. I watched the video multiple times all through the night and went through so many comments. I find that some nuggets can always be found in the comments when people ask questions. So, thank you so much for this recipe. My husband said it was better than the type we buy outside and that it was not oily. I was soooooo happy! But I have now been sentenced to making akara every weekend. So help me God! Congratulations on the arrival of your baby. I wish you and your baby good health and God's blessings! I'm on standby for your moimoi recipe. :)

I am soaking in every moment with my little one as it is priceless and can not be gotten back if missed. I hope to come back to recording in the nearest future. Stay tuned😉😉. Tell hubby i concur with demanding weekend akara from you 😊😊😊. Let's go gurl!! Very soon you will even open akara business 😉😉😉.. In The Gambia and the neighboring Countries we use black eye peas. I give you one tip. If you have a food processor use it to clean beans. Put the dry beans in the food processor and blend it make sure that the skin is out and don’t over blend, check it after one minute to see the the skin is out, or it will look like you break it into pieces then wash and soaks. We make the onions graves separate from the akara. We eat them with bread as a breakfast. Is so good try it.
@Veeluvstocook5 жыл бұрын
Thanks my Gambian sis. Yes you can skin with the food processor. I use that if I have a larger amount of beans to skin not when I have just one cup or so😊😊. And it is another way to show folks how it is done without blender. thanks for your recommendation. Someone will find it helpful since I did not mention it in the videos🤗

There is nothing wrong i peeling with the roof processor😊. I am making a small batch and believe it is a waste of time to use my food processor to do it. @Veeluvstocook4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment. You can soak overnight (i do this as i typically have akara and custard for breakfast). I soak it in the night and use in the morning That said,3hrs is also sufficient for it especially if you have a powerful blender because the aim of soaking is to hydrate the beans so that it is easy to blend smoothly without having to add unnecessary amount of water to be able to move the blender well. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you need more help. Happy cooking Maka.

My blender isn't as big as yours and i do not have a mixer. Can I still try this recipe?. Can I mix of manually instead??. Pls reply soon
@Veeluvstocook5 жыл бұрын
hey. It is possible to do it without mixer but it wont be so exact as using one . You can try this trick: After blending the beans to a smooth paste, leave it to really keep blending. It will partially fluff it up. When you transfer it to a bowl, be gentle with it. So as not to disturb the air the blender has managed to incorporate. Dont bother stirring any more. Just ensure you do this trick once you have preheated your oil so that you fry it immediately. As for blender not as big as mine. Soaking the beans as recommended will take care of that for you. Try this and let me know.

The whipping requirese patience to achieve/perfect to get what you need. Thanks. But it seems the white tender inside will be too soft and light for my liking. Please, how do I make the whitish inside thicker and heavier?
@Veeluvstocook4 жыл бұрын
The inside is actually not too so thin. It is thick enough if you follow my recipe to the "T". My recipe batter is thick before whipping to start with and that ensures not so thin and empty interior. It is just like pound cake texture soft not hard, fluffy , thick not thin. Try the recipe first and if you need it it more thicker, you make the batter thick and you can reduce the whipping time. This might need you to sacrifice the fluffiness a bit. Let me know if this helps

Nice one, but u didn't add onion for flavor?! It's very necessary
@Veeluvstocook5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. I would not say onion is NECESSARY. It is one of the ingredient you can add to it but if you skip it it wont turn your akara left ....thanks
