Akbar Ali- Raag Bageshri

Akbar Ali performing Raag Bageshri at the 3rd LMF concert on 9th June 2011 held at the NCA (National College of Arts) auditorium in Lahore.
Akbar is the nephew and disciple of Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and the younger brother of Javed Bashir (Former Lead Singer of Mekaal Hassan Band). Viewers may know him for his participation on Indian Music Show 'Junoon Kuch Kar Dikhaane Ka' a couple of years ago.

Bageshrii a Hindustani classical raga is a popular raga of the late-night, which is meant to depict the emotion of a woman waiting for reunion with her love. Subanallah! I could unite with brother Akbar Ali. May Allah allow him to do khidmat by way of songs.

I have to say about LMF, very impressed by the performers, but the accompanists are usually disappointing. Also the sound engineering at times. Still, I had no idea Ustad hussain baksh gullu sahab had two amazing proteges like Chand and Suraj Khan! Akbar Ali has also been a revelation but I would like to hear a bada khayal from him too.

Could we just go back to sarangi and forget about the harmonium? Even the best harmonium is poor and jarring compared to the richness and subtlety of sarangi.
