My uncle was stationed in SD when i was a kid and lived in Murphy's canyon. I'd spend a few weeks every summer down there going to Padres games. My dad and I did a little socal swing before the all star break in 2019. Caught games in ANA, SD, and LA. Made sure to do a drive around the Murph cause I wasn't sure if it would be the last time. The fans, the tail gating, the BBQ smell, watching cops arrest drunk people. I can still remember how the touchdown cannon would literally scare the shit out of me. My memory of "The Murph" is as a team member of Long Beach State from 1969 to 1971. We (49ers) played the Aztecs at Jack Murphy in '69, which SDSU won 36-32, before about 45,000. Two years later, we beat the Aztecs at The Murph, 12-7. As a spectator in 1984, I was at The Murph for the Holiday Bowl. I really liked that stadium. It had a lot of life!

Charlie Joiner, Goose Gossage, Chuck Muncie, Steve Garvey, Rolf Benirshke, Craig Lefferts, Gary "Big Hands"Johnson, Tim Flannery, Natrone Means, and of course Tony Gwynn and Junior Seau. I would argue that a lot of San Diego's Community fabric was woven at Jack Murphy Stadium. I know it was run down and dilapidated, but it was simply San Diego. So sad it's being demolished. But happy we had such a great time for 50 plus years. We were actually pretty lucky during that time. You stay classy San Diego!

A lot of memories. Jack Murphy Stadium AKA The Murph. Watched a lot of games on TV. The Holy Roller 1978, The San Francisco 49ers, and San Diego Chargers played many games both pre season and regular season games, Super Bowl XXII, XXXII, and XXXVII, the latter was final time the Super Bowl was played, who can't forget Howard Cosell, Frank Gifford, Don Meredith and Monday Night Football. I saw Dan Fouts day on TV November 27th, 1988. There was a ceremony for him in which he gave a speech, the teamates congratulate him, he got a car and the team retired his 14 jersey. Fouts played for the Chargers from 1973-1987. Also a lot of legends played here: Joe Namath, Joe Montana, Kirby Puckett, Johnny Unitas, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Fran Tarkenton, Lance Allworth, Dan Marino, Walter Payton etc. Coaches Tom Landry, Bud Grant, Don Shula, Bill Walsh, John Madden, Hank Stram, Joe Gibbs...

It had THE BEST DESIGN of all the football/baseball stadiums of the 60s and 70s. Grass field, the open end on the southeast side to allow airflow (with the smells of Randy Jones' BBQ wafting in from there), the ground level entrance to the back of the Plaza level, a square shape like Veterans Stadium so only one field level section had to be moved, and pretty good sight lines (except in the back three rows of Plaza where you had to almost rest your head in the lap of the person next to you to see the main scoreboard). Now let's see how long it takes for the Rams to get tired of Dean Spanos crashing on their couch.
