In a true fangirl encounter, Ife Agoro talks to Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi about her incredible body of work but most especially her second novel- an epic yet deeply personal mix of Ugandan folklore and modern feminism. The protagonist, a teenage girl called Kirabo, goes into her teens wondering about the mother she has never known. In her search for the truth, she is plunged into a world of magic, tradition, and the haunting legend of The First Woman. This is a piercing story of a young girl’s discovery of what it means to be a woman in a family, a community and a country that seem determined to silence her.
