Young women and girls are forcefed strains of sexual morality that are rooted in foreign religious doctrines seen by many as outdated. ‘Culture’ is not innocent either; women and girls continue to be subjected to horrifying and intrusive traditional practices. The battle between sexual freedom and control continues to rage. Is it time to throw off repressive measures and establish a movement that challenges inherited codes of behaviour related to sexuality and interpersonal relationships?
