On the occasion of Jayaprakash Narayan's birth anniversary, Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, has turned into a political battleground. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a campaign against the Yogi government after being denied permission to pay homage at the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre. He made it clear to police officials gathered outside his residence that no one could stop him from celebrating JP's birth anniversary. Following Akhilesh's insistence and the escalating protests from SP workers, the UP police seemed to be on the back foot. Eventually, a statue of JP was brought to Akhilesh's residence, where he, along with senior leaders, paid tribute. This marks a significant moment in UP politics, as it is the first time such a large political conflict has erupted over the commemoration of a great leader. Questions are arising as to why Akhilesh has taken such a strong stand against the government regarding JP.
