I have been involved in Hip Hop knowingly since 1983/84
Unknowingly since 75 via soul train & Michael Jackson.
When someone says "that's ghetto or your ghetto" everyone automatically knows they are referring to emulated Black so called behavior and nothing good is being associated with it.
Urban music and Culture is another way of saying Black Culture even though some Latinos live in the Ghetto that was not who is first mentioned when associating Ghetto matters not every Latino living in the hood associated themselves with urban black culture in Los Angeles they have their own gangs and culture .
Hip Hop for sure was always associated with being black in Los Angeles and media and society wise even among bougie blacks that was not into Hip Hop.

Amen 😊❤. They use to call it crap music, We took the C off it and call it Rao music. But before it was Hip Hop Music, watching the way girls and women hips move to the break beats. Someone shout out her hips is moving to the beats and They it Hip Hop Music after that. You so right Holy Brother Akilthemc, it was a Soul thing for dark skin People in the Soul Train and Good Times show Days.😊❤.

We all wore them paper plastic sounding suits. Jeans, high tops n long t's . Wait, im still wearing all that except i traded my paper sounding suit for other brand sweats, hoodies and t's. I have 5 t's from the 90's still worn often but kept like new condition. Anyone knowing me, you already no those cherished four. The fifth is Bigs, big sexy azz. Wearing a 👑 crown. The other four are now retired to rot away in frames all but the red one, i wear xs-s. Only size left was a 3x. I took it anyway. Lol, its my gown now but hung up anytime its not worn. I agree, we 80's and 90's kids dressed a part. Characters i should say! Peace 🩷🌍🩵 Love, World n Akil........👑👑👑👑👑👑👑-

I've always loved hip hop and rap esp West Coast with the harder bass and bounce with a big funk influence . I was always call Ed a brotha lover. Never bothers me but that lead to my Turkish step dad drilling in my head I wasn't going to to be anything but a loser and end up dead in the gutter or locked up in jail. I'm guessing because I listened to rap and smoked Mary jane😊 and prob had a little to do with no matter how much shit he talked about my father I still missed loved and choose to rather be with him . While pitting my little brother against me saying how he was going to be so much smarter and more successful saying he was going to be driving fararri and I was going to have a pento . Just because he didn't know our dad as well A was therefore more succeptable to Besim Memet Baslangic, taking advantage of my mom to become US citizen so he would not have to go to Turkish mandatori military

Here in houston texas that L.A cholo thingy of clothing was never popular but definitely In the late 80's n 90's and into the early 2000's is was ok to put clothing like that "hip hop type clothing" ppl didn't judge over that style... even the chinese and with folks dress like that... today it became a racial thingy, like you said it why you dressing out or putting clothes like a mayate. Times have change.

Hip Hop the culture came from the bottom of every city. Some cities all black. But most bottoms of cities were mixed poor people. Like New York and my city Chicago. The culture was from the struggle. And we all, that were at the bottom were in the struggle. Now rap music was definitely created by Black AMERICANS. In the 1940’s the Jubilees. And even in the 1920’s had a couple groups that, were more Blues and Folk music, but was beginning of the rap style. But the CULTURE, that begin with the poor Blacks, Puerto Ricans, and even Whites. Now Mexicans came later. But in the beginning the culture was a melting pot of all poor people and the struggle
