Akios are a fantastic company. The reels are superb. I bought a 555 shuttle about 9 years ago. Took it to Thailand to try on the mekong catfish. It did the job though tbh thats a bit too much to ask on a regular basis. But the reel proved itself and its quality. (People will actually use reels used for tuna to catch these bigger mekong catfish. Myself included. Great fun!) The Abu reels are very popular out there(for smaller catfish) and i had bought a Chrome rocket. Abu prices are crazy now, which i believe is linked to ceasing production. Originally got the chrome rocket for £80. Some are now asking for £400 used. The Akios reels are the way to go. I've just purchased a 555 STR as well. I use mine for carp fishing in the UK which is a bit unusual but i love multiplier reels. Not really a fan of fixed spool. I love launching a bait out to the horizon on a big reservoir. Carp are no match for the akios drag. These reels must be brilliant fun on tope etc and they give you the ability to put a rig out into the distance.

Absolutely love mine, had it about a year, I changed the bearings for rocket bearings but I do that on all my reels. You don't need too as the reel performs exceptionally as standard. There is a power handle available but not needed on clean ground. Its a dream to cast. Akios have sorted the issue with the gap between the spool and frame so thats no longer an issue. Set up right and it won't let you down. Not had one birds nest and it will send a lead way out beyond the horizon.

Are they hard to cast compared to a bale arm

There is a learning curve to getting them to perform properly, but if you get the mag brake set on it correctly, they're fairly easy to cast.

There is no reel seat on his rod. He used two coasters to fix the reel on the rod
