Here in Finland it's also rated 12. Although our rating system is infamously lenient when it comes to animation. For example, South Park is also rated 12 here. You have to go really extreme to reach a 16 in an animation. Still, that ain't nothing compared to France where according to IMDb, this film is rated as suitable for all ages.

It's now a 15 in the UK. The Australian M rating back in the 1970s-early 1990s was completely different from today's M rating, as loads of old M rated films from that period will definitely be an MA today. I think Akira would of course be an MA if re-rated today.

not how that works, if they all hive-minded and simultaneously agreed to let one person shoot when the guy aimed at the officers, the bullet would've gone through the handle sending shrapnel and the bullet itself into the hand, mutilating the palm, shattering the bones inside and (if he ever were to survive) afew of his fingers would have to be surgically removed, similarly like if teeth have to be removed if there is too much decay on them and don't try and say that they could've shot the barrel, would've been a near-impossible shot especially on a snub-nose pistol like the one he has

I'll give the Golden Chainsaw for coolest kill to... let's say Kaori. And that mostly owes to the fact that Tetsuo's mutation is one of the best animated and disgusting sequences I've ever seen in Anime. And the fact that Tetsuo actually kills someone in that form in that painful a way? Keep in mind, it does not happen in the manga! But hey, a lota points for uniqueness. Dull Machete for lamest kill will go to that guy with the pills in the alley. Death by failure to take medication? Sucks, man.
