Just wanted to apologize as the camera went out of focus during the video, it is a new camera and we are still getting used to it. It would have been impossible to redo the video with the same passion as the first time I shot it. Johnny

I'm french, and Toriyama's influence (Dr Slump, Dragon ball and Dragon ball z) in my country was massive. He changed the way people saw manga in the world. I grew up in early 80's with Arale, little Goku, Krilin etc... We'll never forget him. Sorry for my english. Thank you for your tribute. Merci.

Here in Spain it was the same, i also loved Dr Slump!! it was one of my favorite cartoons!! I have so fond memories, one of the earliest would be when the NES Dragon Ball came out here, thanks in part because in France it was released first, as the Secret du Dragon. It was my first DB game and i LOVED IT so much, i still have it on my shelf.

I'm Dutch and we barely had any anime or manga back in the 90s (let alone 80s). What was there was either very dark and edgy or very expensive. Or both. When we went to France on vacation however, I discovered shelves of manga in the bookstores, which felt like finding a goldmine to me. My French was (and is) pretty poor but I took as many manga home with me as I could afford and had already read most it before the drive home was over. Most of it was Dragon Ball.

DB Z (and GitS) introduced me into Anime genre. I was so close to visiting Japan one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit the place that inspired artists like Toriyama San.

That Chrono Trigger soundtrack hits so hard. I remember staying in the same place playing the game just to keep listening to a theme
@excrono
@excrono 4 ай бұрын
Mitsuda put his blood, sweat and tears to make that soundtrack, to prove himself to Square as a new composer, against development deadlines and a total loss of game assets midway requiring a rescore. The reason Uematsu composed some tracks is that he was too ill due to stress towards the end to finish them. You can feel that in the work, it goes beyond the game content. It felt like this to him: “But this score refused to be created”.

I have never loved any form of media more than the ones that Akira Toriyama created. Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, Go Go Ackman!, Sand Land, etc. He has given me a lifetime's worth of fun and entertainment. I could read, watch, and/or play anything to do with Dragon Ball on a daily basis and never, ever get sick of it. I've been all-in obsessed with the series since 2001-2002. Toriyama's incredible artwork aside, his fantastic sense of drama and humour driven storytelling will never be matched. An amazing mind. I will forever miss him. The man made my childhood.

The first time I heard Akira Toriyama’s name was in the credits for Dragon Warrior IV, as the credits rolled. It was an emotionally draining experience for a 10 year old, lemme tell you. Made me take note of all people involved, one of which was Toriyama-sensei. Followed up with beating every other Dragon Warrior, and then a few years go by, and here’s Chrono Trigger, around the time Dragon Ball mania was taking hold here in America. The rest is history.

I dont think its possible to appropriately put Akira's impact into words. He is a GOAT when it comes to so so much. His impact will be felt for generations from now and that is one hell of a legacy. My personal favorite of any creation he had a hand in was Chrono Trigger. Unbelievable what a stellar production that is. Dragon Ball has immeasurable reach and will always be looked at as a peak art design and creation. Akira Toriyama will forever be a master of so much media in such an important time and we all serve to learn from his incredible works. Thank you for everything Akira and thank you HCG for taking the time to provide this wonderful look at his creations. RIP Akira Toriyama!

God I cried so hard waking up and seeing the news on the day. My first exposure to Toriyama was Dragon Ball and that combined with Dragon Quest (V was my first jrpg besides Pokemon and is still probably in my top 10) legitimately made up probably like 50% or more of my free time during my late childhood to early teens, even to this day I often go back to both of those series. Not to downplay stuff like Dr Slump or Chrono Trigger either, those too were a massive part of my childhood just not to the same extent. I just hope he finished most of the final work on his upcoming projects like Dragon Ball Daima and Dragon Quest XII

I grew up in an area that didn’t get Cartoon Network for a very long time. So we would all gather round every month when the new DBZ VHS came out and would watch it 3-4 episodes at a time, monthly. Provided a new VHS had even come out that month but, it was pure magic every time. Every new saga came with a starter box and you’d add a new VHS to the box every month until you filled it. Eventually, Cartoon Network came available on cable and we would watch everyday but we never stopped getting together each month for the new VHS, later dvd. We formed bonds of friendship that were never broken through Dragon Ball Z and that’s just a grain of sand in the legacy he leaves behind. RIP to an old friend

Well said Johnny. My grandfather was a Silent Generation man, so it surprises everyone when I tell them he was a huge gamer in his retirement years (the only years I knew him). He enjoyed puzzles and anything that challenged his mind, so when he discovered RPGs, he fell in love. He had a huge NES and SNES collection and his favorite series were Dragon Quest (which he of course always knew as Dragon Warrior), The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy. Because we grew up watching him play these games, me and my brother in turn became huge fans of those three series as well, and of gaming in general. Then when DBZ began airing in the mid-90’s on Toonami, my entire household thought it was awesome. Me and my Dad in particular made sure to catch every single episode of DBZ. The first time Goku went Super Saiyan, I’ll never forget how me and my father lost our collective shit and ERUPTED. My stepmother thought someone had set the house on fire. RIP Toriyama-sama. What you gave the world will live on forever.

HI! Im from Argentina, and i resonate with your words, i couldnt stop crying knew Akira was gone. If i think like you say he always was whith us trough his work and that is simply amazing. I have mangas, books of him everywhere and almost every day with a friend talks or says something about DB....and the day i play Chrono Trigger and recognize his artworks and be mezmeride for the game....The other day go back to my parents house and search my books and pages and pages of drawing and found my biggest inspiration was Tory, it always be him... Thanks so much for this lovely video! (And sorry my english)

It’s hard to think of an individual that has sparked the creative mind of more individuals in our generation. Thank you Toriyama for all you have given us.

RIP to a legend! I remember the early 90’s running from school to my grandma’s house to make sure I catched the latest episode of DBZ. He was the reason I started watching and loving anime still to this day. As long as we remember him and his magnificent work, he will never die!

Playing Sand Land will hit different. Toriyama created and was a part of many of the things I loved and grew up with. He will be greatly missed and his work will continue to be beloved for for many years to come.
