Gagan Gill had an extremely successful career as a journalist but chose to sacrifice the journalist for the poet in her in order to secure the ‘long periods of silence in her life’ which she considered necessary to remain ‘truly connected to words’. Gagan has published 4 collections of poetry and 1 volume of prose: her 1st collection Ek Din Lautegi Ladki focuses on the gamut of female experiences. And the other poems which include, Andhere main Buddha, Yah aakanksha samay nhi and Thapak Thapak all crystallize suffering as the one constant in the impermanence of human existence. Quiet and hauntingly incantatory, perforated with silences, they distil mood states of urgent desire and loneliness.
