I'm a weapons tech for a NATO member country. We're expected to be knowledgeable​ about foreign weapons we're expected to encounter on the battlefield, although my particular country doesn't offer much, if any, training. AK's are banned in my Country so I find this series very useful and informative. Thanks for the good work, keep em' coming.

Grew up with an HK G3 (loved it) in Germany, but then spent 30 plus years in America and build many AR 15's to meet my requirements. Absolutely love the AR 15, but just bought my first AK 47 (M&M out of Colorado). Well, what can I say, AR's are are just like a BMW, Audi, Cadillac, GMC or Lincoln and an AK 47 is just like a tractor. But, I totally love it, simple, always works, never let me down, no hick-ups (5,000 rounds of the cheapest ammo I ever bought, 16-20 cents a round). This video told me more than I ever hoped to learn in 30 minutes anywhere. Great channel, love this guy, and no, I am not related to him!

@@AnthonyBoettcher24 Yes, the AK is a way more reliable, rugged, powerful, lots of everything I like rifle. I personally hate the AR-15/M-16 and the round it chambers. So, you are a German immigrant? Cool, we need more German minds here in America. Such a smart, inventive, and innovative people and country that has brought the world so many great things, many of which I rely on ( Oxycodone and Morphine for my nasty chronic, lifelong pain ) so many great guns that I enjoy and defend myself, family, property, and business with, the jet engine, and much more, so many things. I have to ask since it seemed to be mentioned, are you guys not allowed to own guns ( I assume you can own hunting rifles and shotguns in pretty much any country ) in Germany besides hunting rifles ( bolt actions ) and shotguns? That would be really odd because some of my favorite guns are made in Germany and Austria : H&K, Sig Saur, Glock ( Austria ), and many more. My daily concealed carry gun is usually a Sig Saur P229 in .40 caliber, a .40 caliber Glock 23, sometimes a .45ACP caliber Glock 30, and I prefer Glock, H&K, Sig Saur pistols, AKMs of various nationalities for rifles ( and the AK is basically a copy of the STG 44 used by Germany in WW2, primarily by Waffen SS units ), and I really like the H&K-G3 .308 rifle ( I had to buy the Spanish copy, the CETME, because I couldn't afford the H&K G-3 way back in the early 1990s ). It would be weird, to my way of thinking, if Germany, the producer of so many great weapons, didn't allow it's own citizens to own those great weapons. So what can a regular civilian own in Germany?

@@cthulhu6697 Well, here in Germany we can buy almost the same toys as the US citizen. We can't get full autos, unfortunately. And some guns are only available for hunters and collectors, not for sports shooters. Such like AK 47 in 7,62x 39.We can get them in 308 and 223. I have a Zastava M2010 in 223 and in 308.Both are fine toys and it's so much fun shooting them. Another fine toy is my K98. It's a german one that was captured by the yugo in 1944 so it shows the former yugo sign. But they couldn't remove all the german stamps so one can see its actually a german gun. That's also one of my favorites. And as a side gun I got a Ruger GP 100.I absolutely love the Ruger. Greets from Germany.

I have a MAK-90 ( a good one, after they fixed the initial glitches ) and a Romanian Romak that I bought way back in the 90s when AKs were affordable to just about everybody. Trying to choose between sweet deals from 2 different people who really need the money because of being out of work due to covid ( which has been good for my business ). Great explanation and breakdown, as a man who has built 47s and 74s (Saigas of course!). I was also a combat advisor and been through foreign weapons course (Eastern Bloc), AK and AR two entirely different weapons, different Rifleman philosophies, both good in their own right. If you want a weapon that can take any type of environment and function then an AK is your choice, just don't expect accuracy past about 300 meters. The AR is a trained Rifleman's rifle that offers standoff of up to 600 meters with little/no recoil. The whole Eastern Bloc philosophy of conscripted military, lots of firepower downrange not concerned with pinpoint accuracy. AR is for western, mostly US, militarys that put emphasis on Marksmanship and one shot, one kill philosophy with standoff. Not saying which is better or not, they both have their place, strengths and weaknesses. I own both the 47 and 74, along with AR style rifles. One big difference that gives the AR platform and advantage is its modularity, especially with the M-4 variants! Thanks again for the great presentation!

I just field stripped my Zastava for the very first time (only had it for literally 3 days), and I used a small rubber mallet with a rag placed over the hand guards to protect the surface as I moved the lever up. It did take some effort but once I got it knocked loose, it was very easy to remove the gas tube. I did also have to "tap" the lever back into place; however, it went back a lot easier than it went up! I would never try using pliers for something like that! Glad I got educated on how to do it. This method looks fairly simple as well, and the simpler the better! 👍

In “Tales of the Gun”, Kalashnikov was interviewed and claimed that there were no similarities between his gun and Schmeisser’s. This was in the 1990s. Around 2002-2003 he said he drew “a little bit of inspiration” from the Sturmgewehr, negating what he said a few years earlier. Then in 2009 he admitted to working alongside Schmeisser and that he “helped” design the AK But Schmeisser couldn’t simply “help” him. Schmeisser was working in Izhevsk while Kalashnikov was supposedly developing the AK-47 from 1945 to 1947 in a different plant, in the city of Kovrov. Russian experts admit it is hard to determine Hugo Schmeisser’s contribution to the design and development of the AK-47 assault rifle because all official documents pertaining to his time working alongside Kalashnikov as a gun designer are still classified (suspicion increases). In 1945 the USSR made 50 StG44s from parts and confiscated 10,785 sheets of technical designs. In October 1945, Schmeisser was forced to work for the Red Army and instructed to continue development of new weapons. He worked for them for 7 years, then died the year he moved back to Germany. The early AKs were stamped, but came apart forcing the Russians to use a milled receiver. Ok, so the facts can make even the most stubborn AK fan raise an eyebrow. Also, If you’re familiar with how the USSR did things, then it all makes sense that Kalashnikov would make a great poster child for designing this symbol of national pride. They put this “common soldier” with a humble, agrarian background on a pedestal as an example of how great and excellent communism was. If the above facts are taken in to account, he may for all we know have been Schmeisser’s errand boy. He never spoke like a humble engineer deserved of respect in interviews, and even lied about Schmeisser being involved in the project at all for many decades.

@Doc I'm definitely not starting a fight but Kalashnikov spoke engineering, he did design an optic for the T34 that's non-disputable, he talked at length on differences of the Stoner design which he knew quite well to my shock and though by the time they met and talked the 74 had long ago come out and fixed the recoil and cartridge problem, if you can call it that, and it was Stoner if I recall that humbly said great things about the AK but I think it was undeserving as they only discussed his AR and not his other fascinating designs which probably outdid the AK in terms of engineering originality and brilliance but now I'm just rambling, but are you saying Schhhhmizar designed the AK in whole and credit went to Mikhail? I think if so that's a crack pot theory, Mikhail DID say he was wholy unaware of the STG the 44 or 45, and other times he has talked as though he had his design laid out and compared it to the STG like he was in 1944-45 because he has stated my favorite rifle and designer Sergei Simonov and his SKS competed with the AK and due to long standing political influence Sergei's won out, it's very confusing and even a great book series I have on engineering behind Stoners and Mikhails and so on so forth's design makes it admittedly muddy where and when and what version of the AK comes when and where, timeline is all fucked up but I don't blame Mikhail at all, he was ancient when all this timeline stuff got serious and he has indeed retold his story so much that he gets facts wrong, but I am certain the AK came from his mind, tweaked and influenced by others but I don't think someone else as you claim wholly made the design up and he was shoved in as a Patsy, that's just kinda crazy and I'm not an AK crazy fan boy, I'm an SKS crazy fan boy lmao so no feelings to get hurt if you can clear your statement up or give more information

Two comments on sighting in: you can't adjust the cartridge, so you move the sight to where the bullet strikes the target. Same thing he said but a different way to remember. The rear position of the slider on the rear sight is actually a battle site, not zero elevation. I like to sight in at 200 m. Aim at high chest position and the bullet will strike a man -sized torso at anywhere from the muzzle to 250 m. You can re-sight when shooting targets.

I really appreciate this video. I just purchased my first AK today to add to my gun collection. I've always collected AR type rifles, lever action rifles, bolt action long guns, pdw's and pistols/handguns. For some reason, I've never been interested in the AK rifle. I recently decided to add one to my collection and I'll admit, I knew very little about them. I did a lot of research about purchasing, but didn't know much about owning one and how it works. Some will say this is basic knowledge of operating an AK, but when you have little to no experience owning one, it's nice to have a detailed video like this! Thanks for taking the time to make this series and I'm excited to watch the rest of the videos you made on this type of rifle. I'm quickly falling in love with the AK and I am excited about learning all about this rifle. Thanks again. Ak Operators Union, Local 47-74 Thanks for having me! Your videos came in huge!! I stripped my new rifle down today, cleaned and lubed. Never had to open the users manual, because of your in depth videos. It was really easy after watching the videos you put out on AK rifles. I went to the range and put 200 plus rounds through the rifle. No malfunctions with steel cased cheap ammo. I'm really not surprised though. These AK rifles have such a history, it was just nice to see it live up to the hype. Iron sites are solid. Your tips on sighting iron sites was awesome. Really made it easy. It helped me to know exactly what to do when I saw what I saw. Just ordered a Midwest Industries side mount to mount an optic. Really excited to test precision with a RDS. Maybe I'll test a magnified optic too, but I'm not really interested in using it for something over 100 meters. Thanks again for the videos. You really made getting to know this weapon system easy and really fun! You've helped me become a big fan of the AK type rifles and helped open a new door for me. Keep up the good work!

As far as I know from the comparisons that have been made, Russian AKs are the best, then Finish, then Polish, then Chinese, the Romanian. But those where contemporary tests, made a few years ago. America did not have a sizeable AK market back when the tests were done. But as with all things, my home nations products are more expensive, so I will avoid buying one made here, for multiple reasons, that being one of them. But I also cannot buy Russian ones because of import laws, so I will probably go with Finish.

if it's your 1st AK get a WASR 10/63. cheap and reliable. Once you get a good feel for the platform you can either sell it or keep it and buy a new one. I've had mine for 7 years now and I love it. Just check the rivets and make sure they're OK. I can pretty much guarantee the front sight will be crooked but you can fix all that easy. I guess welcome to the AK family. Lol

Rob, if you use Brownells Acraglass gel on that stock screw it will be stronger then wood will ever be. you basically mix the gel and let it run into the hole. YOU DON'T USE VERY MUCH because you don't want excessive squeeze out. The next step is painting the release agent on the screw and the entire tang before slapping it together. When the gel dries (per instructions) you disassemble and you are better then new. I can't stress enough to not apply too much Acraglass! It will cement that stock onto the action and you would need to grind the stock away to clean up the horrible mess you will have.

Another great video Rob. To tighten up loose wood screws in the stock, try this. Remove the screw and place a few drops of super glue in the hole. Let it soak into the wood. Let it dry for a few hours. The glue will toughen up the wood. DO NOT put the screw in, if the glue is wet. If you do, the head will snap off, if you try to remove it.

If i may give my 2 cents, i've worked on a lot of old guns with wood screws in the stocks that have started to come loose, a good fix is to pour in some wood filler (or glue with sawdust mixed in) into the hole and rescrew the screw while it's still wet. Don't need to fill the hole completely just a little bit, and what happens when the screw goes down the filler flows up and creates new threads on the screw. This is a better solution than super glue as some people do, because the screws are still removable after this, and the wood filler creates new threads which can be screwed back into too.

Living in a desert environment here in the U.S for over 10yrs, and being deployed to a foreign desert environment..I have found this to be true.. TMs should have been updated by now...

You and every one else I’ve seen put the dust cover on always make it look so easy. I struggle with the dust cover of my WASR 10/63 so much that I absolutely hate taking it off. I stopped the video after you put yours on and took mine off in ½ second, but must have struggled for 3 minutes at least to get it back on. Otherwise, the take down of the AK 47 is a piece of cake.

Having started with 30-06 as a larger caliber, when I made the move to 7.62 I had no issues with the recoil. If you started with the AR, it would definitely be an adjustment.

wood toothpicks are great for "heli-coiling" a stripped out hole in wood, been using this fix for years on any stripped out wood screw hole. Break off the tapered part of the toothpick(s) and dip the straight section of the toothpick in wood glue before inserting then breaking them off flush in the hole (you can use more than one if required) then install the screw before the wood glue sets.
