God bless you dear. Don’t mind the treacherous dr. Abati. People can be shameless at time. Very bold in telling lies. Old traditional law is that Igbos do not give women landed properties but exclusively reserved for men. On inheritance it’s for the first son to take over his father’s house upon demise whilst the other male children are allocated lands outside the house or compound. But now , so many families have done away with that law and buy houses and lands for daughters and girl children too. Please don’t mind lying abati. Your truth of owing house in Enugu as a Yoruba man has already settled the matter. Thank you very much dear

I couldn't let go, Dr. Abatti's misinformed assertion that Igbos do not sell land to foreigners. The truth is that any person nomatter where you come from can purchase certain lands either. The only land you can not buy, which is what TS Benson was probably referring to, was a family inherited compound that can only be passed down to only the first son of every family. That's what you can not touch, that includes members of the same family.

His point is that there are lands that are passed on to generation and can't be sold to outsiders Mr. Benson obviously wanted to buy land from his in-laws kindred which is not right. He can buy land in Enugu but not lands belonging to a certain kindred. Am very sure in your village there are lands your elders will never sell even if you offer them Nigeria
@George-q6p
@George-q6p 2 сағат бұрын
His point eluded you. His point is that other than what Igbos call the Obi of a deceased person, land is sold by Igbos to whoever can afford it. The Obi is the place a man made his homestead in his village, which is also where he is buried , and in some cases, forefathers are also buried there. This land has overarching social, spiritual, historical, and psychological significance for the Igbo and his lineage. Surely, you can understand why such land is never sold, whether to another Igbo man or to a Yoruba man? So, land may generally belong to the family as you say, and the Igboman who wants to sell land will sell to the highest bidder. You can be sure of that.

It seems most southwest people are obsessed with their envy of the ibo.Imagine Chief condescending so low as to go to the grave to wake up the memories of Tos Benson just to rubbish what AKPABIO said of Ibos.We don't know what relationship Tos Benson had with his wife and the wife's relationship with her family. Has Abati or any yoruba really tried to purchase land in iboland and are denied.The ibos are not the problem of Nigeria. But jealous & pretentious people like Abati who are happy as ibos are schemed out & marginalized in Nigeria. The TRUTH.

Akpabio's patronising attitudes towards Igbos is nothing but annoying and cringe. Igbos are not begging for handouts and palliatives. They just want to be treated fairly and equally just like every other Nigerian. As simple as that. They want to be able to contest for Presidency and win without fear of their lives and properties being destroyed. As someone who has an Igbo mother, I will just advice Akpabio to use his position to make policies that are beneficial not only to Igbos but Nigerians at large.

I want to contradict the insinuation in reference to Chief Benson as espoused by Ruben. It's false that Ibos do not sell land to non-Ibos. The scenario could have been a clan or village mandate, which sometimes bar some Ibos outside the particular clan or village from purchasing land or home. So, it's not a general mandate in Iboland. Ruben is well informed to research this issue.

Good morning Dr Abatti. Your dressing today is good. You always conflict your dressing by using the same color and same stuff on (pocket square) with your tie. The color of the tie must always be different from your pocket square. What is pocket square? A small, square piece of fabric that is folded and placed in the breast pocket of a jacket or blazer. Common, that is a no-brainer coming from you. Go and make your findings. Maybe the mans own inlaws dont have land to sell, doesnt mean the whole ibo people dont sell land to outsiders. About what happened to TOS Benson. That’s sad and unfortunate. I don’t know how long ago this was and which village he tried to purchase land from. But as someone who lived in the east for over 30 years, I can say without mincing words that many non-Igbos including Yorubas own landed property in the Southeast. It will be unfair on Igbos if this is presented as a general Igbo trait (because it is not), especially if it happened a long time ago, when many people were still skittish from the events of the Civil War.

Àbati should wash himself of his closet tribalism. Rhetoric like "Igbos came to Lagos and have now become omo oniles in Lagos" is frankly unnecessary and in poor taste and so is channeling the Eleko of Eko's potential to be offended. It's quite subtly inciting and so is the "conquering spirit of the Igbos" assertion. Igbos are not interested in conquering anybody or any land. Lagos was Nigeria's capital and that's why ALL NIGERIANS arrived there and not the liberalism of the Yoruba "race".The TOS Benson story is particularly poor. "He had an Igbo daughter and Igbo daughter..." So Abati once you marry an Igbo wife, the daughter becomes an Igbo daughter? The story is disingenuous, blatantly unintelligent and sad. "He said something about Igbo people..."? Shame on you Abati. If TOS Benson wanted to buy land in Igbo land, all he had to do was to get a damn agent! Abati did not even ask why TOS Benson would decide to buy land for his daughter and wife in Igbo land? Does it mean TOS didn't see them as part of his family? What a pathetic story. And why does an anecdotal and unsubstantiated story of this type by one man ages ago amount to Abati's generalization of Igbo people? Some people out themselves as prejudiced and jaundiced so embarrassingly. Shame. The TOS Benson story was simply irrelevant to the news headline under conversation. And Abati posits his theories about Igbos only on the basis of TOS' wild divisive story. It is simply poor journalism as Abati hasn't himself tried to purchase land in Igboland and was unable to. It's not the irony of Nigeria, it is the prejudice of Reuben Abati and his ilk.

Dr.. Abatti, I am disappointed that you made a uniformed comment about Igbos selling land. Igbos sell land but when they do, they sell for most profit to the highest bidder. Now when it comes to your own personal homestead, selling it is extremely irresponsible even to your siblings because by doing such you have sold your ties to the family, clan and community. Doc, please educate yourself before talking.

@ Vimbai, I quite disagree with you. Who says the boy was delivered in the hospital, not to talk of checking vital organs at birth. How many people go to the hospital to deliver a baby? You guys at the studio should not come to conclusions fast.😊 I'm not saying the alleged may not be licensed as well...

your experience does not invalidate another person's experience. obviously there will be examples both ways. but many people have said it and they cannot all be lying. Rather than deny, lets all preach better practices

Igbos sell land to anyone who wants to buy regardless of their ethnic group. However they don't sell communal land.

It happened to my mother in law in Enugu when her husband was transferred to Union Bank NNEWI. The local refused to sell land to Yoruba. So what is the lie?. The Yoruba not Lagosian do not discriminate with other Nigerians for instance, In my town somewhere in Akoko, Ondo State. Our people lend or borrow Land to Igbo to farm and sell to build houses, we have intermarriages, living in peace. So also igbira and Tapa people from kogi. May be thing has change in Igbo land I stand to be corrected. My mother in law case happened between 1985-1989. By the way i’m pro Igbo people

@@oluwadareajayi3236 This is just a generalization; I’m pretty sure that if you go round you will find igbos that couldn’t buy land in the SW at some point in their life simply because they’re Igbo. Igbos are discriminated against everywhere in Nigeria but that never stops them.
