@Akruas Okay Im begining to become increasingly irritetad, becouse, from the unknown reasons youtube keeps disappearin this comment. One last time. I think I'm standing before a choice now. On the one hand I could keep arguing that some other parts of the commentary are wrong, therfore I was right, you were wrong, I win and I'm the best. But on the other hand I could addmit that this was a nitpick on the very small and not so important sentence in the overal great video. I could also say it was simply speaking stupid and dull and that I'm very happy to see the Altengrad series back on track. Not sure if it's popular on KZbin, but I'd like to apologize. Keep up the great work, take care and stay safe.

I love Altengrad. I live near Prague and in many aspects, it's very similar. Maybe you should think more about rich people. In history, the capitals like Altengrad were centers of power. There were many noble's palaces in the inner city and majestic castles everywhere around (in smaller towns or stayed lonely with glorious gardens). In the 19th and 20th centuries were established districts for rich people with many beautiful villas or big mansions like from the Great Gatsby. Think about it and you may try to improve your city 😌

As an idea for the industry area, in Hamburg there is an planed industry zone from the late 1900s. Every lot has access to a canal which leads to the Elbe on the back and an railway and road in the front. Just look at Hamburg Billbrook in Google maps
@Akruas
@Akruas 4 жыл бұрын
The harbor itself will definitely expand a lot more in the coming decades, which means I'd like to keep some places empty here to allow that. I'll take a look at Hamburg, but the scale in Altengrad will surely be smaller.

Your methods for working with the terrain difficulties to turn them in your favor and your ability to challenge yourself creatively are very impressive. Love your work on this city! Tidbit on US highways is that they were similar to the 1 or 2 lane national roads (if paved) until after WWII. Then in the late 50s, under President Eisenhower, the US started building the Interstate Highway System, basing it off of the German Autobahn. Also fun fact, most of the existing US Interstate Highway bridges are concrete and steel dating back to the 50s and 60s, and with constant use you can sadly guess how safe they are (see Minnesota's I-35W bridge collapse in 07 as an example).

I’m from Poland and my grandpa used to tell me that people were planting trees next to the roads in 1930’ to hide that roads from the view of planes. I don’t know if it’s actually true, but many rural roads that are leading to a city, still nowadays, have big trees along them.

1) You should add a small medieval city up along one of the rivers and a great cathedral would be the Cathedral of Aachen (if you have after dark). And the cities old town would have medieval walls around it and a couple of blocks around the walls, park and a train station 2) Usually a town would have an church in the center 3) A great building to put near the Parliament Building would be Geze's Palais Garnier and the Louvre and Haussmann Parisian Apartments for Variety in the city 4) A country palace would look amazing up one of the hills overlooking the castle hill a great asset would be the winter palace by Lt.Tasteless 5) And a blocks of industrial buildings would be realistic By the port

Gald to see you breathe life back into Altengrad. There's a lot to comment on: Don't worry about your city expanding symetrically from the center. That almost never happened anyway. City growth follows the contours of the land. Don't forget to give your new town a church. And fit most of the houses with a kitchen garden. They were quite common then. A more 'modern' expansion for the town could be done in the guise of the London suburbanisation of the 1920's and 30's. These expansions consisted of single family homes with access to a station (in your case the tram) into the City.
@Akruas
@Akruas 4 жыл бұрын
Sure, it won't end up totally round, but I do need some plan like that, otherwise it's just going to be a neverending expansion, "one more vilage/block" or something like that and there needs to be a clear plan how to end. Otherwise I might end up with 5FPS, limits for networks or props almost reached and the city far from finished.

BTW Akruas, Germany already had highways before the war and they were comparable in size to current polish highway network. Given that Altengrad isn't placed in any real country, but is rather in it's ambiguity of being central/eastern European city I think they could fit if you had some distant locations, just not thrown literally through the city - rather functioning as it's bypass as of current city borders, if the city expanded after the Eastern Bloc era (in which the rulers of socialist states didn't really care for highways due to low traffic levels, look at Poland that had remnants of the road to Legnica and in general East Germany) then a new highway could be constructed at the new borders and the old bit removed or made into a boulevard, but that's just my idea. Picture for reference of the German Autobahn in the 30s: i.redd.it/y6c0k3nm5ic41.jpg EDIT. I think I'll just merge my two comments into a mega comment. Do you plan to put some polish-inspired bits as well? Cities of Warsaw, Cracow, and Lviv (now in Ukraine) are very similar in the theme if not the same in the 1930s. You even have some Polish buildings on workshop, for example Prudential skyscraper from Warsaw.
