Its formidable geography, marked by towering mountain ranges like the Kunlun Mountains to the north and the Karakoram Range to the southwest, boasts an average elevation of about 5,000 meters above sea level. This harsh, unforgiving landscape makes Aksai Chin one of the world's most inhospitable regions.
The roots of the India-China border dispute over Aksai Chin can be traced to historical ambiguities and differing interpretations of ancient treaties. India argues that Aksai Chin was part of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir when it acceded to India in 1947. Conversely, China claims historical sovereignty over Aksai Chin, citing ancient maps and trade routes as evidence.
The most significant episode in the Aksai Chin dispute occurred in 1962 when a brief but intense war erupted between India and China. The conflict resulted in a military victory for China, which gained control over Aksai Chin and a substantial portion of the disputed territory. However, both sides eventually agreed to a ceasefire, albeit without a formal resolution of the border dispute.
Since the 1962 war, sporadic skirmishes and border incidents have continued to plague the region. India and China have engaged in diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful resolution, but a mutually acceptable border demarcation remains elusive. Recently China has generated a new "standard map" that includes Aksai Chin as integral parts of its territory. This move has escalated longstanding border disputes and territorial conflicts between China and India.

We lost Aksai chin in 1962. , we should also know, how it had earlier became part of india. In fact this area including Ladakh and some parts of Tibet were made part of jk state by Genral Zorawar Singh during 1840--41. by defeating the local rulers. In battle of Toyo dogras under Zorawar Singh were badly defeated and Zorawar Singh lost his life, but Dogras continued their struggles and avenged the death of their genral by killing Tibetan genral TShepasha. Thereafter a treaty was signed between Dogras and Tibetan which recognised ladakh and Aksai chin as part of jk state.

Ladakh was won , in the Sino Sikh War after the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh , by Gen Zorawar Singh who led the Dogra forces under the Khalsa Flag of Sikh rulers of Lahore Darbar .

Ladakh , Gilgit , Baltistan , Mansarovar and other areas were won by the great Zorawar Singh , the legendary General of Dogra ruler Maharaja Gulab Singh , who was then under Sher e Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh . Gen Zorawar Singh is called Napoleon of India and was born in present day Himachal Pradesh ( Bilaspur ) . His victories earned the Dogra rulers of Jammu and Kashmir the title of " Tibet Naresh "

Just to add to strength aspect: in 1958- or when Nehru visited US, JFK told Nehru that China is planning to explode nuclear device. But US would like any regional democratic nation to do it first. Since India has expertise, we can give one device and rest scientists can explode it before China. Nehru declined. Result- China did it and then invade India. Had be done that, China would have never invaded. Also, JFK only saved India- USSR didnt help (Communist Bhai).

During Second World War Allied Powers ( USA and Britain ) developed excellent Air bases in the North East ( like Tezpur , Jorhat etc). From these bases Allies` Long Range Bombers would cross the Himalayas and bomb Japanese positions in China. Unfortunately, many of these air bases were closed down by Nehru after Independence

Before independence India held a very strong presence in Lhasa ( Tibet ) including a Resident. Lhasa traded through Kolkata port. Sardar Patel had warned Nehru regarding giving up Indian influence in Tibet.

Lala Raj Kumar JI , my Mausaji , in Jagadhri , Haryana , was one of the leading businessmen in 1950 s manufacturing / dealing in Brass utensils . During the Korean War, in early 1950 s , there developed in Jagadhri an acute shortage of Zinc , a key raw material for Brass. Mausaji was able to source Zinc from Air force Airfields of Assam which were being decommissioned /dismantled and its materials , including Zinc , being auctioned as scrap.

Nehru's Govt was blissfully ignorant of this .Then the Chinese inaugurated this road in Indian territory. India should also release a new map of India showing P.O.K, Aksi Chin & Arunachal as parts of India. Dokalam as part of Bhutan. And also Tibet, Hongkong & Taiwan as Indipendent countries and not part of China.
