It's the other way around. If you use Ayurvedic practices every day and make them part of your lifestyle, you will significantly decrease your chances of disease. However, once you are affected by disease, Allopathy/Modern medicine is a much better solution. They are both useful, in completely different domains. As an MBBS student and the son of a BAMS, MD doctor, I feel Ayurved and allopathic medicine are meant to complement each other, and it would be wrong to assume they are competitors in medical practise. Ayurved is an excellent guide on lifestyle and preservation of good health (physical and mental) through daily practices, which allopathy is either completely silent on or has half baked and conflicting guidelines. On the other hand, allopathy, or rather, modern medicine, is excellent in treating the patient once he lands up with disease, especially in case of surgery. For the cancer example: if you follow Ayurvedic practices throughout your life, e.g. perform yoga daily, have a good diet, stay away from poisons etc there is very less chance you will get affected by cancer. However, once you are affected by it, modern medicine will help in complete treatment of the disease. Saying that Ayurveda can treat cancer will diminish its actual value and promote the belief that it is 'quackery', which is really irresponsible on the part of people, especially those profiting from Ayurveda. And also, saying that Ayurveda is useless and a scam causes people to unnecessarily distrust this ancient wisdom, and removes them from the potential benefit this system provides. My final message is this: don't bash one system or the other just because 'someone said so', especially if it seems like they have some profit out of that statement. This goes for both Ayurveda and modern medicine.

It is definitely not a conspiracy. I am a practising doctor and I can confidently say that allopathy works. If it did not, BAMS graduates would not have resorted to prescribing allopathic medicines. I see such prescriptions slips every other month. Allopathy does have its weaknesses, mostly in the cases of lifestyle diseases, but it still offers some sort of remedies in most cases. And I agree with the OP almost entirely.

In the case of Liv52, it is mostly the patients who ask if it can be taken along with the medicines prescribed by the doctor. Call it a product of reluctance to take medicines without understanding why, fear of the side-effects of the allopathic medicines, belief in alternate medicine because of hearsay, and a desire to get rid of the illness no matter what. There is definitely a role of ayurveda in disease management but when BAMS practitioners start prescribing antibiotics without studying pharmacological recommendations and interactions, they are adding fuel to the fire of antibiotic resistance. Many of my fellow allopathic practitioners are also guilty of the same.

I have been trying to comment that tonics such as Liv 52 are mostly harmless and are often taken even without a doctor’s prescription. On the other hand, antibiotics and other allopathic drugs come with a scientifically tested set of benefits and risks. Without understanding the pharmacological indications and interactions, many BAMS practitioners prescribe antibiotics among others which add fuel to the fire of antibiotic resistance and other complications. Edit: this comment was not deleted. So let me add something. I have nothing against rational use of ayurveda and I genuinely believe it has a role to play in holistic management of diseases. But there are certain areas where one discipline shines and the other one does not. Infections are something that allopathy does very well. Lifestyle diseases are better handled with ayurvedic practices. It does not have to be an either-or situation.

@ they prescribe allopathy because they are not trained enough to practice ayurveda I myself do that because I’m not capable to do proper ayurvedic treatment but I refer my patients to my ayurvedic proffers in my college and they get full recovery To practice Ayurvedic treatment is not easy as it is in allopathy It requires immense knowledge and experience It’s very deep not limited to just writing prescriptions

For a long time in india doctors said coconut oil was bad. Now they say it is good. I wonder was it done to promote some other oil?

MY grandmother also has cancer ,she had operation and kimo treatment but doctor still gave up then we have ayurvedic treatment worth just 15k and now she is totally fine and working like before

What i think is that allopathy is used to treat the patients forcefully (like killing the reason of the disease and so on) while ayurved believes in property of body will heal itself if given the proper intake of diet

Problem is not with Sidhu saying Ayurvedic diet helped. Problem is with Sidhu only crediting that diet and not the other medicines and procedures which were administered to his wife by Modern Medicine doctors. Unke statement me Doctors ko kuch nahi bola, isse common man ko to yehi lagegi ki agar ye diet lelu to medicines ki jarurat nahi. I'm saying this as someone who lost one of my parent to cancer.
