I absolutely enjoyed Riddle Story of Devil. It really showed a new way to cover assassination anime and Yuri as well as giving us something new. Each character gave me a sense of curiosity and wonder. Every bit of it made me very happy, but also each episode shows a new way to show Yuri and assassination anime. I just really love it.

Honestly I really like Akuma no riddle, and I personally like how one episode was given to one assassin, what bothers me the most about is the ending itself, honestly the show really did get to me, and their face expressions tell a lot about them. But the ending was really disappointing

at the time the anime ended the manga was not even close to finishing so they pulled an ending out of their ass that they hoped would not fuck with the manga a year passed and the final scene was done so much better in manga and the ending you see here is repeated but Tokaku does make her wish and it is granted.

In my opinion the best and most powerful part of this anime was the ending...lol I guess opinions can vary significantly from people to people.

I have to disagree ^^' I really liked the show. The "one episode to develop" works with the amount of episodes they were given. The tv studio probably made them limit the episode count, so they worked with what they got and I love it. It's just subtle enough to leave things to the imagination while specific enough to tell a lot about the characters (like Haruki is very family oriented but feels trapped by that exact orientation yet hides her emotions with smiles and laughter). As for the ending, I quite liked that too. I like it more in the manga, but the ending in the anime worked for me. The "my wish can't be granted anymore" was because she thought she killed Haru. In the manga this is made more clearly with her screaming that she loves Haru before deciding the only thing she could do to prove to herself her feelings were her own was to kill Haru with her own hands. But when she shot her in the manga, she put the gun to her head and Haru had to talk her out of suicide before passing out. It cuts to them in the hospital, Tokaku sitting next to Harus bed crying. When asked about her wish she screams "Give me Haru! I want Haru!" Both endings were extremely powerful to me, despite the manga one being better. This was because it represents hope. Think about it, Tokaku just opened up to the world and was starting to see the light. If Haru had died, she'd loose everything again and the series would end with Tokaku being worse off and more anti social than she was in the beginning. She might even shut down, and would possibly commit suicide (as suggested in the manga when she puts the gun to her said and tells Haru that without her, she can't see anymore). That takes away all her development. What they accomplished here was having Haru live by the skin of her teeth to keep Tokaku going in a forward motion. She learns to see the world with new eyes and learns to hope and have faith and be happy. With Haru living, Tokaku had something to keep her going. That's why I loved the show ^^ It made me fall in love with most of the characters within an episode (and while I was sad to see them go, they at least stuck with me) and the ending wasn't about death and darkness and stuff but rather about hope and light and living each day as if it was your last. Sure I would've loved to see a death, more character development, Tokaku totally lose it, etc. but for what they have in the amount of time/episodes given, it was really good. The one thing I wish for most was that they kept the manga ending. But the ending they have is good. Like, when Haru runs into her blade, Tokaku's eyes widen in pure shock before the stoic character we've grown to love breaks down in tears. Powerful stuff. In any case, I really liked your review ^^ it's nice to see varying opinions. But I have to disagree this time around.

Yes, I enjoyed the story too and thought that the wey they handled the actual storytelling was okay for a short anime. I mean its not like Death Note or Assassination Class masterpiece, but I really liked it

I disagree with the character development. In each episode you really do get a lot of insight into each character and it does make you care for them (whether it be positive or negative) As for the part about yuri, just take a glance at the manga. I believe Akuma no Riddle was given the yuri tag to stay consistent with the manga.

This is my favourite anime. Personally, i think it's highly underrated. that`s just me though. I find it interesting how you got a completely different vibe than me but that's the beauty of anime. If you have any yuri anime you could recommend , i'd be grateful. I find it difficult to find any that keep me coming back.

Well, if you look into the characters you get a basic grasp without there episodes. Suzu is seen in the main bath a lot and is seen with stiff joints, which foreshadows her episode. Isuki's interactions show her off as a girl who will kill without hesitation. You even got Banba having "never worn a school swim suit", which could mean never going to a school. In all honesty, it depends how you look at it. The endings though give you a really good idea of what each character wants. Even Kouko's ending, one of my favorites, has the line "how do I seem now? Do I make you proud?" Which could mean she wants approval. Again, it depends if you know what to look for not.

I disagree about there being 'no Yuri', if you want something that is about romance this will miss the mark. It just strikes me that the story managed a difficult balance with it's style and themes against the Yuri undertones. That being said, I like the episodic assassin of the week style. I honestly do hate the ending as I think it undid and cheapened a lot of the best moments of the show. Really the last two episodes were kinda blah for me.

The anime did admittedly focus more on action than relationships in comparison to the Manga (though the later added some stuff since it finished after the anime). I love love love this series but the anime was a bit more sterilized, I feel

Yes the Manga finished after the anime, so there were many changes in the stuff that happened. The anime is watchable and would be nice for comparison with the Manga if nothing else.

I came for the yuri, but there was little to no yuri. the show was decent and could have been so much better, but that makes it worse bc we see the obvious shortcomings. thank you for your explanation bc I was questioning that myself. I still don't understand why haru had to die in the end? like wtf sense does that make after her wonderful "coming to jesus" moment she had? I thought 'hey, things might work out' then was quickly like DUDE NO WTF THIS IS ASS BACKWARDS!?!?!?!?! I am still searching for an explanation of the ending.

I actually really liked the show minus the second half of the last episode. I saw another comment describing the manga ending and I feel that would have made the show more memorable and powerful. I also love how everyone got their own ending song but there was BARELY any Yuri. Should have been classified as shoujo ai. But I still like it, only wish someone would have died. I'm okay with haru not dying but it feels like some of them shoukd have definitely died as they were stabbed through the heart or they chugged an entire poison bottle. Still I would recommend it but tell people not to have too high of an expectation
