I doubt whether Al "would still be with us" as someone has said below, had he not been killed in an air raid, as he would be 117, but we still have his wonderful musical voice on many recordings. So evocative of the time.

this morning, i watched this movie "Romantics Anonymous," where the male lead sings this song in French. After a long day of KZbin surfing, I somehow made it here. It's a small, musically marvelous rock we roll around on, isn't it?

Mr. Bowlly could sing any song in any genre and make it better. Had her survived the Blitz he would still be with us, still a great star, and still recording I'm sure.

+antonpetrovichkoch see above. The song of Al Bowlly is actually published (even online with iTunes) as music by A.Ferraris. The origin may well be an old folk tune, but this song is of Ferraris. Read more

Same comment again - it is not just the origin - it is the same song with a different arrangement and translation. The folk song needs to be properly credited.

Yes it is true. The Arab Renaissance story will be told when they discover the value of free society. Long live free societies, and the artists they produce. I also love his song "Guilty", one of my favorites from the British Dance era.

This particular version of Dark Eyes is not "a Russian folk song", it's the published version by Adalgiso Ferraris, please see here www.allmusic.com/song/dark-eyes-mt0048800677 . Kindly amend the note. Thank you
@antonpetrovichkoch8 жыл бұрын
+ferdinando vegni The music is the Russian folk song. It also happens to be called "Dark Eyes". Also with a lot of gypsy influence. Roughly the same content. So it is a Russian folk song arranged or adapted by this Ferraris fellow. To give him credit for the wonderful music would be incorrect.
@ferdinandovegni85008 жыл бұрын
+antonpetrovichkoch thanks. The song of Al Bowlly is actually published (even online with iTunes) as music by A.Ferraris. The origin may well be an old folk tune, but this song is of Ferraris.
@antonpetrovichkoch8 жыл бұрын
Just because he published it doesn't mean it is no longer the Russian folk song... Published an arrangement and translation is not the same as composed.

Don Fanucci? You mean Gastone Moschin? This movie looks older than him.
