Maaan much love to you for introducing the best coffee to America again. I grew up in Yemen . Ma uncle is a farmer and his coffee was like gold . He would sell it before he crops it. Lol. I always wanted to start my Yemeni coffee company in America. I hope one day . Ahhhh that coffee is something else

Also, how much oz of coffee could you make from the 4oz bag of roasted beans?
@Coffeeloversmag

Well I brew using mass-based ratios (water and coffee measured in grams) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnrTm2d8p6tprsk So following that, with a 16:1 water:coffee ratio we can calculate the following... 4 ounces of roasted coffee is about 114 grams. If we were to brew the entire lot we'd use about 1824 grams of water. After brewing, I usually find an amount of water equal to the coffee gets stuck in the grounds so your brewed coffee result would be 1710 grams/ml, or about 58 ounces of brewed coffee. Personally, I brew coffee like this on something like a Kalita Wave, using 25 grams of coffee to 400 grams of water, resulting in about 380 grams/ml brewed coffee, or about 13 ounces brewed. So a 4-ounce bag of coffee gets me 4-5 brews.

Is the coffee already ground or whole bean?
@Coffeeloversmag
@Coffeeloversmag 6 жыл бұрын
Whole bean! It would be unfortunate to have this coffee pre-ground...there's so much unique vibrancy to be enjoyed with the coffee fresh.

Port of Mokha has a subscription box you can get on - though you can't pick the coffees. You might be able to get Al Jabal specifically from their more high end box -> portofmokha.com/

Why are these cost way more than Yemen Ismaili and even some Kona/Geisha?
@Coffeeloversmag
@Coffeeloversmag 5 жыл бұрын
So a large reason for the cost of Port of Mokha's Yemen coffee is in the processing and farmers. This coffee is produced at the highest quality, and the farmers are paid what they need to thrive and continue to make great coffee like this. There are also factors of getting the high quality coffee out of Yemen (which is no small feat currently). Kona's price is tied into it's brand and the fact that it's produced in the US (higher labor and resource costs). Geisha's price is largely tied into it's performance at producer competitions like Cup of Excellence, where winners that are bid on often represent some of the most expensive coffees in the world. That price is based mostly on demand and perception of value tied into quality (they are indeed high quality coffees). It's highly likely in time (provided the war in Yemen ends and people thrive and coffee grows), that many Yemen's will follow the path of Geisha in terms of demand via producer competitions, Cup of Excellence, etc.

$48 for 4 ounces of coffee??? If I usually buy a 12 oz bag that would be $144. Is it that much better than the Wendleboe like roasters? If coffee is really supposed to cost this much the demand would drop precipitously.

Oops. This is odd, I remember responding but I don't see it. To answer your question in two parts, the trio of coffees they have on the site (singles of which are $48) are a higher rated exclusive lot series. The ones I'll be reviewing on the channel here (and another one coming quite soon) are from their monthly subscription, which is currently $28 and you get 5 ounces - quite a good deal for experiencing high-quality Yemen coffee. On the subject of 'expensive' coffees. I don't disagree with your statement there - if all coffee were to be this high priced, that wouldn't work. In this particular scenario, the price is justified due to the effort necessary to get the coffee. And it's easy to say it's worth it, because the coffees are completely unique. They are unique varieties, and in unique growing conditions (very high altitude, low water, harsh conditions = higher natural sweetness than coffee grown anywhere else). Whether it's worth it to you is a personal question to answer. The most I've paid for coffee is around $85 for ~5-6 ounces. I've done that a couple times, and in both scenarios I was very happy to have the experience. But it's not something I do frequently. There's plenty of really great coffee in the world which doesn't cost THAT much. But to me occasionally the experience is very much worth the higher price.

ok I thought you were saying paying that was a recommendation for a monthly subscription. I would, for the most part, try anything once. I just paid $28 for a 6oz. geisha and $40 for Nespresso pods from April. This will be on my list.. I had never heard of them thanks for the heads up.
