...bloody oath it is - what revelation, as never heard of it before seeing PART of the movie, as snuck in quite late into theatre. When closing credits came on, was about to leave, when this song came up, & had to say to find out who performed it (from music section, of credits), as truly never heard it before. Why is this Mr Jarreau not MORE well-known than he is/was, compared to many others who are feted as 'superstars'? Officially NOW in my personal top 20 songs of all-time!!!

I've seen this movie over a hundred times (exaggeration, but you get what I mean) - never remembered this song (I believe I was walking out of the theater when the credits were rolling) or was quick to always change the station when watching it on TV, but I just finished watching it again tonight on HBO and actually listened as the credits rolled. What an absolutely amazing song - I had to wait for the credits to roll all the way through to find out who sang the song. I was totally surprised to see that it was Al Jarreau because I have listened to his music, but the list of songs I've listened to are nothing like this. What a great talent he was and I also hope that he rests in peace.

It just hit me recently how powerful Do the Right Thing really is when it tackles race relations in Brooklyn between blacks and Italians especially that same summer of 1989 with Central Park 5 incident and Yousef Hawkins lynching in Bensonhurst Italian neighborhood. Also the Howard Beach incident in 1986 when another black man was killed while trying to run away from a small white mob in a white neighborhood.Awesome job Spike Lee.30 years later this movie still hits hard today
