In no way do I defend the snarky tones of yesterday’s atheist content on KZbin. I do, however, think that some context is missing. The snark of the time was highly reactionary, in that religious conservatives were coordinating their efforts to undermine science education for everyone. They ultimately succeeded by shifting the rhetoric so that we parents would be distracted, while they watered down the material to appease parents or to ensure that school board meetings wouldn’t become the circuses they became eventually. I was grateful for The God Delusion and God is Not Great. In the last few years, I have been appalled by the behavior of many of the people I respected, and in many cases, worked with. I completely understand your distaste for the tone of the time, but honestly, at the time, it was cathartic to hear these things said out loud to people who were actively seeking to harm science education. I don’t condone it, but I shared the anger at the time. That anger still bubbles up routinely because they keep eroding rights and openly admit they aren’t finished with their campaigns to destroy the lives of anyone who’s outside of their cookie cutter. It fosters a deep despair in a way that standing up to them, even with a less-than-polite tone, didn’t.

Also how could you know of grammatical errors if you don’t even have a great understanding of Arabic which I doubt you have. You just watch Atheist KZbinrs who don’t know what they are contradicting and are already disproved time and time again by many scholars. You Atheists keep on trying to disprove Islam with the same thing time and time again and yet your argument are disproved. At least come with something original. Even though I’ve been atheist my whole life, I’m still angry at religion. Not the people who follow it but definitely those who push it. The amount of anguish that is brought by religion is just so disgusting to me. And for them to argue their faith is the maximum good while committing atrocities makes them seem so stupid. It also was likely part of my “grieving the loss” of my “heavenly father”. I don't think I was ever religious - so I never BECAME an atheist. It's an interesting dynamic - people who are religious seem to be more strongly upset about people who LEFT a religion - versus those who simply never joined one. Just for clarification, being non-religious is not the same as being an atheist. The first is a lack of faith towards any particular god or belief system, while the latter (atheism) is in fact a system of belief. Like Drew's wife mentioned in a clip here (Sorry I can't seem to remember her name rn) the existence of god is unkownable, meaning that either way you have to make a choice. There arguments for an against, and it's up to each individual to decide for themselves. Being non-religious might simply mean you don't care and have not made up your mind about it... which is perfectly fine.

This is a sensitive and difficult point regarding Matt Dillahunty. I deeply respect Matt's knowledge and understanding, not only of his own fundamentalist Christian past, but of the relevant aspects of epistemology and evidence-based reasoning. I think Matt is brilliant, and I've learned a great deal listening to him. My own religious and epistemic views are extremely closely aligned with Matt's. That said, I feel the way he approached his dialogs with theists on his former broadcasts with the ACA call-in shows made me extremely uncomfortable. Basically, I couldn't stand listening to them. I think it reflects badly on Matt, on the ACA, and on the atheist movement in general. Unfortunately there is an audience for this type of confrontational dialogs with frequent interruptions and heated exchanges, and hanging up the phone on people. I get nothing from it but "cringe".... Accordingly, I was very sympathetic to the comments that Apostate Aladdin made. I think these things need to be said. By the way, everyt comment I made about Matt dillahunty applies to Aron Ra as well, both with regard to the respect I have for him and his knowledge, as well as the discomfort I feel in the way that he deals with the faith community. He seems very angry... Arguably understandably so, but I just don't think it helps. I've given up posting thoughtful, but critical, comments on Aron Ra's vids because his audience of fanboys are just as intolerant of divergent views as Aron Ra is. They love to guffaw at stupid "believers". I just don't think this is the way to wean people away from Faith-based belief.

My Christian " friend" has been preaching to me for years. So I asked him the other day. If God commanded him to kill his daughter, if he would. He said absolutely. So I asked him how would he know if it was God and not some charloten or voices in his head from schizophrenia. I haven't heard back from him. 😊. I love your show. I liked listening to a former Catholic Priest Alan Watts lectures - On Being God. He's funny 😅. I think our founding fathers knew what they were doing when they established the separation of church and state in the first amendment of the Constitution.

I wanted to make one assertion here. I understand that some people see Dawkins, Hitchens etc. as "attack dogs" that paint a negative light on the atheist movement. However, I do believe there is a need for such individuals, even as there is a need for atheists who take a more diplomatic approach. I look back at any struggle in society and culture and the quiet diplomatic approach can't be the only tool. In Civil Rights both Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were needed. It may appear that Malcolm X was too much of a firebrand - but he emboldened many black people to stand up for their rights. Jesse Jackson walked along with Martin Luther King but he was much more direct and outspoken about injustices. Would gay rights have ever moved forward without the Stonewall Riots or without outspoken representatives like Audre Lorde? In any case, I do believe that in order for Muslims who became atheist to have the right to live their lives without being murdered, it may take more than a peaceful and diplomatic approach. Sometimes anger and truth are needed.

Is this the stupid era where godless alone people are theologian (yes, sure when they believe there is No God, No Soul and No afterlife, how they can be theologian if they do not believe in GOD? that why thery are all full of BS) but they are so obsessed with us, because they live by reflection of what other people believe and not really have a real identity? Ye, Obsession, and BS that what they have to offer, just like their cult called Atheims. (do not lie, that is just but an empty cult) No respect for you and your godless miserable life. (They really stands on nothing, that how their life is... Nothing , but obsession for what other people believe, because they got less sacred things in their poor life) then DO NOT TELL ME THIS IS NOT A CULT AND THOSE PEOPLE ARE GODLESS ALONE PEOPLE WHO STANDS THEIR MISERABLE ON NOTHING AND ON WHAT OTHER PEOPLE BELIIEVE BECAUSE THEY ARE SO ALONE AND JELOUS OF US; WHO HAVE SO MANY THINGS SACRED IN OUR LIFE THAT THEY DO NOT: NO RESPECT FOR THEM. Imagine to be a godless alone idiot (without God) with No God and no dignity, into an empty worthelss cult called atheism that does not lead anywhere but your own lonlyness run any time you see godless ass to kiss it, because you do not have God in your miserable alone godless life. what? Are you the godless alone idiot, you be f those instead him something done does when he stopped to believe in God? Let's hope this godless worthless generation will he over soon just as their stupid atheism. You are worthless to anyone, and also to you, godless alone (or Godless ass kisser without any dignity) LET'S BE CLEAR TO THOSE GODLESS PEOPLE... WE ARE JUST TIRED OF YOU TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU DO NOT EVEN BELIEVE;as obsessed idiots. That why they always come here "saying they were Christian", or "Saying personal stuff about themselves" or "Saying something superficial" or "Makes stupid jokes" or "Laugh as stupids" (They do that because they have less secret things in their miserable life)... As be a Christian or a believer makes you have more to have more precious things in your live, and much worst to be a godless and soulless desperate (alone) idiot. But any way... LET'S START AND SHOW HOW MUCH NONE WILL MISS THOSE PEOPLE AN THEIR EMPTY CULT WHEN IT WILL GO BACK FROM THE NOTHING IT COMES FROM... ALSO BECAUSE IT IS WORTHLESS... (And without God you are more worthless then the believers... that is simple the true). Why godless alone people are obsessed with God?? and talk about him more then a believer? Well for many reason.... 1) About that BS called atheism there is not much things to say, no value, no sacred things and and it leads to nothing. 2 And then because they know they are so many godless alone people that will run to kiss their ass... 3 they do that so this cult can be alive, otherwise is destined to vanish, exactly from the nothing it comes... because is nothing but a cult that has nothing to offer to us and neither to the godless alone people who belonged to 4 And finally this cult will be vanished without those videos and those godless alone people will be just alone. And who said the opposite is a godless alone hypocrite. This cult called atheism is so empty... And those godless alone people really have nothing to offer to themselves. They have less sacred things then us... what an idiots they are for that too. Let's hope in a better generation because this is so lost. You are into an empty cult that leads you nowhere... No respect for you, godless ass kisser.... You really left God to put BS and emptiness in your miserable Life. No Pity for you. (God is always you do not know)..... We need to move to a better generation, and Hope godless alone people like you will not exist anymore in the future (you are worthless your cult called atheism). What you realised that Atheism is just an empty cult? That Have nothing to offer to you, or to the humanity? It leads to nowhere? To the Obsession for God? For Christianity? That there is not comfort on it??? And that live and die as an alone godless person is not the best you can have? Just as have the idea that once you die you will be Nothing (and Nothing you are now, as you become what you think you will be once death) is not the best for your mental and psychological stability? Or have sacred things (as other people have) and you do not (such God) is so idiot that you are rething about everything and start to believe that Atheism is not but a BS, and a trap you are in???? They are patethic and worthless as their empty cult called atheims, which will not lead them anywhere, but a alone godless desperate life that they will never admit it. No respect for them. THAT IS JUST AN EMPTY CULT, AND WHEN IT AND THOSE GOLDESS WORTHELSS SOULESS PEOPLE WILL BE BACK TO THE NOTHING THEY COME FROM, NONE WILL COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT. NO RESPECT FOR THEM AND THEIR NO SENSE CULT (godless ass kisser, with no dignity)... THEY BRING EMTPTYNESS as their cult called atheism... Shame on them and their desperation.... Anyway only a pathetic person can learn something from someone who explain you a thing obsessively that does not even believe... (with videos that are not helpful for their life...) WHAT AN EMPTY NONSENSE MODERN CULT YOU ARE TRAPPED IN, AND YOU ARE NOT AWARE OF........ Atheism is just empty BS, but those godless alone people are so sad to do not get... Let's hope in the new generation, this one is so lost, and none will cry when their worthelss atheism will be over. Your wortheless empty Atheism is dragging you to the nothing it give to you (and to us) but you are too pathetic (as atheism) to get it. No repesct for you godless ass kisser. No respect for you Godenier... You just worth as your atheims: 0. For real what an empty cult... when this worthelss cult will be over none will complain... Our faith is much stronger then your empty BS. Deal with it. (it is far better to be a God believer, then a godless alone person as you in an empty cult that does not give us and even to you anything)..... I should note that Al Jazeera Arabic and Al Jazeera English are, in fact, separate branches of the same organization. This means they have separate editorial staff, who make separate editorial decisions from each other, such as choosing what stories to publish and what stories to ignore. They have a common mission by virtue of both being part of a Qatari state-owned, oil-funded media corporation, but they should not be thought of as mere "translations" of each other. I so wish I had had access to content like this during the time in my life when I lost my faith. I grew up in a self contained religious system, where it was more or less expected that you would go through your entire life in that denomination's elementary, middle and high schools, colleges, medical schools, and hospitals. Virtually everyone I had ever known had been a part of that system. I had spent probably 15 years telling myself that I was just on one end of the spectrum of the faith. In my early 30's I finally came to the crushing realization that I simply did not believe the things I would need to believe to be part of the church. In that moment, I lost my entire community. It took me YEARS, filled with loneliness and alienation, to recover from that loss to the point of feeling ok. I don't think I'll ever completely get over it. Seeing this kind of conversation would have helped a lot, and I'm so very glad that people going through the same kind of experience now don't need to do so alone.

As an ex-Christian whose home country is majority Muslim, I was aware of the ways that questioners can become shunned from their own families and communities. For me, I grew up in a Pentecostal church (that has ties to Focus on the Family) and I started questioning and feeling out of place in my early teens. Part of it may have simply been that I'd gone to international school, so didn't have many things in common with my same age peers, but also I had always been drawn to science. However, a big impetus for me leaving was that my grandmother suffered a stroke, and the helpers were off on Sundays, so it wasn't worth the effort. It took me a long time to tell my mum that I'm a non-believer (I think she's still Christian). In my experience, it wasn't necessarily frowned upon to ask questions, but I didn't really have anyone to ask, and during uni when I asked questions like "how can you reconcile the theory of evolution with the book of Genesis?", I didn't get satisfying answers. Also, I have to say that I'm on the same page as you when it comes to the existence and nature of God, so I identify more as an agnostic than an atheist.

It’s really hard pretending to be something I’m not everyday and i lose many friends or peoples respect when i am out as atheist rather than just a sinner, but i learned to look at it as culture, and i clearly don’t care for slip ups if suddenly my hair isn’t covered or that i don’t pray or whatever, as the country opened up a little and as i and my family grew apart i care leas and less. But it was never easy and I still struggle to this day, I almost ended my life in 2018 for not being able to handle it anymore, I couldn’t see a future where i could be myself, nothing saved me I just couldn’t do it, and as time passed and the country isn’t strictly religious anymore it got better, as i started making my own money it got better, but I still have to abide by their rules. I agree a lot with Aladdin points and thoughts, we share a lot of them. And that you removed God from your heart to put lies and shit from for this empty cult that both JG gives you, but BS and lonlyness... THIS IS A CULT, in which those godless patetich people does not deserve any respect.they life stand on nothing, and nothing they bring. Let's move on with a better generation, none will remember this one.

i really appreciate your content and the work you're doing to promote other apostates/people who have left religions other than christianity. i grew up in christian cults (christian science, the church universal and triumphant), which weren't evangelical but were definitely fringe extremists (one was a doomsday cult lol). atheism and skepticism are deeply important to me because they helped me escape my abusive home. hearing your voice and seeing you uplift other voices in the atheist/skeptical community means a lot to me, because i always think of other abused kids in high-control religious homes who may find some safety and hope in them.

The kind of conversation that goes,"Atheist need to stop mocking religion.." just rings so tone deaf to me because so many conversations with theist is about things that have nothing to do with atheism but they imagine that it does so you're just unpacking all these bizarre conspiratorial concepts they've associated to atheism.. you don't even have to bring up atheism.. just the act of say.. talking about evolution is interpreted as being both an argument for atheism and an 'insult' to them.

My journey out of Christianity started with me looking for answers in the Bible, finding it lacking, and then moving into Street epistemology to try and understand why I believed what I believed. From that point I eventually found Drew (et al) on KZbin and have been following them ever since. I still struggle with some things (ie - never seeing lost loved ones again), but am moving forward every day. Thank you for all the help you have given me along my journey.

I strongly disagree with much of this. Hitchens, Harris and Dawkins had the right approach initially, speaking up against theocratic voices and those pushing religion on everyone around them. They never attacked grandma in the nursing home declaring her an idiot, etc. You can continue the fight agaisnt theism without being an ass, and they did. Any criticism of religion will be interpreted as some as an attack against them, and that's not something we should be stopped by.

They're talking about people like The Amazing Atheist and Matt Delihunty (sp) they are straight up nasty. And Matt isn't really very nice to people IN the atheist community itself. He just likes to attack people. It's one thing to attack those who are shoving religion on you. I agree with that 100%, it's another to openly mock people who call in who are deconstructing and trying to come to answers, struggling with for example heaven not existing, him treating someone struggling with that is what made me very strongly dislike him. I was in my own search to try to convince myself there WAS a heaven because my fiance had just died. I watched him mock how desperate this person was and hang up on him. It was obvious he was just desperately trying to find a way to convince himself it was real. And there was zero compassion. Zero understanding. It made me think if I as an atheist called in and expressed "I know deep down heaven isn't real, but I want so much to believe because I want to see Adam again" how much hed have mocked me. Would he say I was lying because no atheist would feel like that? Then I heard about his reputation in the community. I don't watch videos with him in them anymore

@@zuglymonster I can agree about Matt, but that's more about demeanor than it is about what is being said. I do agree atheist people should not act as Matt does with contempt for people. You can respect the believer without respecting the belief and we should not confuse the two.

@monkeytime9851 Harris and Dawkins in particular have jumped onto the right wing bandwagon. Dawkins has used his position to link being anti-religious to justify being anti-trans people. Both Dawkins and Harris have gone down the path of being islamaphobic using rhetoric that dehumanises and dismisses rather than seperates the people from the flawed beliefs. They similarly refuse to condem extreme Christianity in the same vein. There is an old clip with the two of them clashing with Hitchens over it, with Hitchens bringing up his time in Northern Ireland, and the problems he saw with Christian sectarian violence, and both Harris and Dawkins were trying to excuse that so that they could focus exclusively on targeting Islam. Drew has the much better approach IMO. He rejects the arguments from religion, but in a way that doesn't dehumanise. He is will to address issues, and like in this video when they acknowledge that ex-Muslims do have more to fear than ex-christians he is willing to call a spade a spade. But he is also trying to be genuine, open amd kind in a way that gives people an opportunity to safely doubt their faith.

I grew up in a very Christian household, and many of my close friends were and still are Christian. In high school, I started questioning my faith as when I was doing my Bible readings I was finding myself gaining doubt in the faith, and started questioning a lot of the assumptions I had held for a while. I went to my friends who were very Christian to discuss a lot of ideas about free will, problem of evil, and other things I was thinking about, and I was just not able to get them to converse with me at all. They would not engage with me and quietly shut down the conversation. Online was amazing because there were plenty of people, both Christian and atheist and more who were more than willing to engage and share ideas. Channels like this one are amazing because they get many people of all ideologies to question and understand their faith more, and hopefully have more discussions around it as well.

When you challenge a persons fundamental beliefs, you challenge how they fundamentally look at right and wrong, good and evil. To accept what you're saying is to acknowledge that they've been wrong, or evil. People hate being told that, and will actively and passionately reject that idea, as we all tend to view ourselves as the protagonist in our own stories.

A Hindu isnt forced to go to temples or worship a particular God or worship in a particular manner only or subscribe only to a particular metaphysics or set of beliefs - in each of the above parameters a Hindu is free to choose his own and yet he will face social ostracisation or any other persecution from anyone. A Hindu goes to temple only due to his personal beliefs or perhaps due to his respect for his family traditions, but never out of fear from society. Religion is way to God-realization - to love God - can love and fear ever co-exist.

Christopher Hitchens spoke for me, as a lifelong atheist. He emphatically staked the territory of the enlightenment philosophies, on which the constitutions and other institutions of the stable democracies were built. He wasn't "trying to deconvert" people, but remind the religious that actually, we've always been here too, and what "made America great" in the first place was science, industry, democracy and human rights - not religion.

I will concede that the traditional view of the Christian God presented from pulpits is of a loving God. I will further concede there are passages from the Bible that do support that view. The Beatitudes, for example (although I really have no idea what to be "poor in spirit" means). However the fundamental message of Christianity, often exemplified with John 3v16, is quite sinister, I would argue. How is sacrificing your son an act of love? Why did God need to do it anyway? Couldn't He just forgive people without such a gory ritual? Why should I "perish" if I don't "believeth in Him"? This "love" comes across as highly conditional. It's fine that you disagree with me, but, I would argue that the Bible is (largely) on my side.
@johnbrzykcy3076

@@BobHutton Actually I struggle with the same questions that you mentioned regarding John 3: 16 ( but it's still one of my favorite scriptures ). God's love for us through Jesus' incarnation and crucifixion does seem to be "conditional" as you mentioned. For one thing, is God's love for me dependent on the condition of how I believe in Him? And specifically on how I believe in Jesus Christ? So although I said previously that I disagree with some of your comments, I do honestly become frustrated with my lack of understanding some scriptures, specifically the verses which imply that Jesus had to die for our sins. So I appreciate your honesty. I do believe God loves all of us because He created us. And although I don't understand why Jesus had to be crucified for us, I don't want to reject God's love. I don't think another finite human being would willfully die for a sinner like me. So the story of Jesus' death must go deeper. No problem with your questions. Each of us need guidance from God and I hope we find it. Respectfully from Florida USA

THE HITCH SLAP!! You cant deny the fierce wit and satisfaction of delivery in some of those debates loll I was turned atheist by going to church with my parents and lyrics/experiences from the punk-rock/metal scenes and genres of music solidified it in me. I was an atheist before The Four Horsemen aka "New Atheists", but their take-no-shit stern attitudes were amazing to me because they did it without calling for violence and argued for the increase of the well-being of humanity constantly. To me and my punk-rock/metalhead friends those videos were fun af and also good for hearing the arguments from the varying theistic sides. I remember some friends coming away after those videos questioning their faith I dont like those militant atheist meme pages that literally bully ppl for likes, but those four horsemen videos were never bullying like atheist comment sections do/did. I dont ridicule ideas for "points" and i dont make fun of the person, just their ideas/theories. And only if/when they start saying im going to hell and be tortured for eternity and/or they start calling me a "faggot" and "retard" for saying harmless blasphemy like all Abrahamic religions are inconsistent with reality and historical analysis/evidence or detailing the numerous diff. gods and religions in competition with theirs. All religious concepts that condemn unbelievers to hell, or any suffering while living, deserves mockery, sometimes harsh mockery, imo. The construction/manual labor working class ppl that i live around, and who swear every other word, religious or not, dont care if content is harsh tbh For example.. the opening of the TV show Preacher, and the show itself, was absolutely amazing and has actually made my lifelong Christian parents question their faith in ways i never thought they would do. That all being said, being considerate is the safe and nice bet. But, their religion isnt nice and safe. Some powerful ppl quite literally pray in a god that will deliver the end of days and would welcome a nuclear apocalypse as judgment day. I'm reminded of that AC Graylings quote: "Religious apologists complain bitterly that atheists and secularists are aggressive and hostile in their criticism of them. I always say: look, when you guys were in charge, you didn’t argue with us, you just burnt us at the stake. Now what we’re doing is, we’re presenting you with some arguments and some challenging questions, and you complain." Their crucifix torture devices everywhere and constant threat of worldwide genocide and eternal afterlife suffering is harsh and rude imo..

Satire and Mockery most definitely contribute to battling religion. A friend was a huge influence and contributor to my deconstruction journey via numerous conversations over a few years, and his making fun of my beliefs and religions in general. To begin with the mockery pissed me off, but then started questioning what I believed, why I believed it, what evidence did I have to support my beliefs. After 4ish-5ish years of researching and studying religions and their histories, I finally fully shed the chains and shackles of religious lies and bondage.
