He was my boyhood idol. I saw him play in Tiger Stadium often, had an Al Kaline glove, bat you name it. I larter met him and he was the nicest man you could imagine. My hero.

Kaline's performance in the '68 World Series was exceptional.

I remember our coaches in Little League told us outfielders that this was the guy to emulate. He did everything correctly in the field, and he had some pop in that bat!

Great hitter and remarkable fielder. A pleasure to watch.

Al was the LAST player to win Rookie of the year. and a Batting title, in the same year of course. that's very difficult thing to do for 25-year-old. Al did it at 20.

How about more on Al Kaline’s fielding? Tremendous defensive player and throws on spot to get the out.

My hero as a kid. Always a thrill to see him come to the plate, or make a great play in right field. Mr. Tiger.

I knew he was a great player but I was only 8 years old during the 68 world series and al was a bit past his prime and he played in an era of legendary players so al kinda flew under the radar at times but he was a model of high level consistency and I never knew how good he really was until years later

I hated that guy when he helped the Tigers win over the St Louis Cardinals in the 1968 WS. What a great player !!!

Sadly the only time I saw him play on TV was in the 68 World Series, due to black outs. It was worth the wait.

My boyhood hero. I always considered him as the Tigers version of Stan Musial (from the Cardinals)

My summer ideal was the Tigers when they had "the K Boys," Kaline and Kuenn. I have never forgiven Tiger GM Bill Dewitt for trading away Harvey Kuenn! Similarly, Cleveland fans never forgave Frank Lane for trading away Rocky Colavito.

Kaline made that throw to Bill Freehan in the tly right to the plate and no bounce 🤨

Not disregarding the other Tigers greats who came before Al Kaline, but in my humble opinion, he was Mr. Tiger as he spent all 22 seasons with the Tigers. It took him 16 seasons to reach a World Series with Detroit but his Tigers deserved to win as Tigers fans of all ages and backgrounds waited nearly a quarter of a century to see the Tigers win the World Series.
