Whenever I hear this song, I am immediately transported back to the 70's when I was young, and innocent, and so beautiful. Thank you for sharing this and taking me back. Al Stewart is STILL an amazingly talented musician and singer. Misty-eyed, I listen to this with greater wisdom, the benefits of a life well-lived, and a much softer beauty.

I've ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG! Al Stewart sounds great. And that was a super story he told before the song too. I have never heard this version before, it's really nice. I have been playing and singing this for years. It always rouses the audiences I've played for, which makes me smile. I really enjoy touching an audience where they feel it and this is a SONG that does that. Go Al Stewart!❤

Lova ya Al -- i started listening to you in 1989 when your "Last Days of the Century" came out, and "King of Portugal" blew me away. Then, I started to remember all the unbelievable music you had created many years before, "Time Passages", "Year of the Cat", which I heard in the 70s while I was little, but didn't know it was you :-). Thank you for all you have done for us, and many musicians' careers you have spawned! My mom and I saw you performing in Irvine, CA, I believe, in 2007 or 2008. You had signed my "Last Days of the Century" t-shirt, which I had bought in San Francisco when I saw you and Peter White in 1989. We need to see you again, soon. Our love to you and your band... safe travels!!

Great double bill! Saw him ~the same time frame when he played Vancouver for the first time. He was still doing ‘Nostradamus’ and ‘Roads to Moscow’ then from ‘Past, Present, and Future’ then but sadly no ‘Old Admirals’ which is a song I love. One guy in the crowd called out for ‘Love Chronicles’ to which Al replied “Ah. No.” Al wrote a lot of music that people loved.
